"Mom? You're back from vacation?" Gu Qingqiu held her phone in one hand and typed on the computer keyboard with the other.
The mother's tone was calm. "Uncle Wang's son just graduated from graduate school in Melbourne. Why don't you have dinner with him tonight?"
Gu Qingqiu hadn't reacted yet, "Why? Are you and Dad going to throw a welcome-home party for him? Then I guess I won't go? I don't know him well."
The mother said firmly, "It's for the two of you to eat alone."
Gu Qingqiu paused in her typing, realizing something was wrong. "Mom, what does this mean?"
The mother said, "A blind date? Uncle Wang's son is a good match for you in terms of social standing and is a few years younger than you. Don't you like younger men?"
Gu Qingqiu almost laughed in anger, "So Mom, you still made me go on blind dates even though you knew I had a stable boyfriend?"
"It's just a meeting and a meal, it's not like you're going to start a relationship right away," the mother advised. "Maybe you'll like him when you meet him? I saw his picture, he's very handsome, a graduate of a prestigious university, with a good education, and you'll have common interests. His family is well-off, so he's a good match for you, on the same social class, and with similar perspectives. Most importantly, he's very satisfied with you after seeing your picture!"
Gu Qingqiu was not happy. Her mother's words were both open and subtle, belittling Bai Jingyuan, implying that Bai Jingyuan had a bad family background and low education. Her parents must have heard about the farce that happened recently, but they probably didn't think Bai Jingyuan was pitiful. Instead, they probably thought that this man was not good enough for Gu Qingqiu.
