Is it that obvious?
Gu Qingqiu awkwardly changed the subject, "Big brother, what did you want to see me about?"
But the doting older brother wasn't so easily fooled. He wouldn't let it go, "Who bullied you? Tell me! I'll stand up for you! You can burn their house down or beat them up!"
Gu Qingqiu felt a little embarrassed. Did it have to be so violent and exaggerated? She truly realized once again how an arrogant and domineering young lady's temper was formed.
But I definitely can't tell the truth now, otherwise it would be troublesome if my family wouldn't let me stay in the mortal world!
So Gu Qingqiu said, half-jokingly, "I didn't realize I was in the sun and got sunburned..."
"How could you be so careless! Didn't I tell you already?" the older brother said anxiously. "Do you think the mortal realm is the same as the underworld? Do you think you can go wherever you want?"
"I'm sorry, brother. I will definitely be more careful in the future." After Gu Qingqiu repeatedly assured him that she would take good care of herself, her brother hung up the phone with a worried expression.
Exhausted from crying, Gu Qingqiu simply squatted down in the stairwell and fell asleep.
When she woke up again, she found Qi Huaijin leaning slightly forward, looking at her with a frown.
Gu Qingqiu quickly wiped her face. Luckily, she was a good sleeping person and there was no eye boogers or drool...
Qi Huaijin slowly straightened up, took out a white talisman with black characters from his pocket, and handed it to Gu Qingqiu.
Gu Qingqiu hesitated for a moment before reaching out, but she actually managed to catch the talisman.
Seeing that Gu Qingqiu had accepted the talisman, Qi Huaijin entered the room.
What does this mean?
Gu Qingqiu looked bewildered, turning the talisman over and over to examine it, but still couldn't understand its meaning.
Finally, unable to figure it out, she simply stuck the talisman on her forehead as if it were a joke, like sticking a talisman on a zombie. After all, she was a ghost now, and Qi Huaijin wouldn't deliberately use the talisman to harm her.
As expected, Qi Huaijin not only did not harm Gu Qingqiu, but Gu Qingqiu also felt a cool and comfortable sensation all over her body the moment the talisman touched her forehead.
A second later, the talisman disappeared into thin air.
Gu Qingqiu looked down and saw that the sunburn marks on her arm had miraculously disappeared.
Is Qi Huaijin... concerned about her?
Even knowing that Qi Huaijin probably just did it on a whim, Gu Qingqiu still felt much happier.
Anyway, Qi Huaijin had no idea, and she immediately started spreading rumors in her mind—the male lead didn't dislike her! If he didn't dislike her, how far was he from liking her?
The next day, when Qi Huaijin saw Gu Qingqiu again, his expression had calmed down considerably. He glanced at Gu Qingqiu indifferently and left.
This time, Gu Qingqiu was smarter. She didn't go out with Qi Huaijin, but instead waved to him with a smile, "You've worked hard at work. Go home early, I'll be waiting for you!"
Qi Huaijin paused for half a second, almost imperceptibly.
This delicate yet balanced relationship lasted for two weeks. Qi Huaijin seemed to have gotten used to seeing a cute little ghost sleeping peacefully on the stairs in front of his house every day when he got off work, and to seeing the little ghost greeting him with a lively and cheerful smile when he went to work.
Few ghosts linger in the human world after death. This is partly because their behavior is restricted in many ways, and partly because they are subject to the jurisdiction of the Ten Courts of Hell. Most of them are assigned work in the underworld or imprisoned in the Yin Prison.
Normally, only ghosts who had obsessions in life or who were framed, killed, or died tragically will try their best to stay in the mortal world. They will only be willing to return to the underworld after fulfilling their obsessions or seeking revenge.
Or like the homeless ghosts and wandering spirits that Qi Huaijin took in at his shop, who, because they had no family or friends to burn offerings and paper money for, found life in the underworld extremely difficult.
Qi Huaijin had seen many ghosts lingering in the mortal realm because of their obsessions, and had dealt with or helped many of them pass on to the afterlife. But this little female ghost... Qi Huaijin couldn't see any malevolence in her.
She looks innocent, naive, and adorable, not at all like a female ghost. So why is she lingering in the mortal realm?
Qi Huaijin considered many possibilities, but for some reason, he suddenly remembered the little ghost girl's words about "finding a suitable husband and having a ghost marriage".
Could this really be her obsession and true feelings? Qi Huaijin found it hard to believe. The little ghost's appearance was definitely outstanding in the underworld, so how could she not find a suitable husband?
That's definitely an excuse.
Qi Huaijin was not a gossipy person and did not like to pry into other people's secrets, but he suddenly became interested in this little female ghost. He wanted to know what the purpose of this little female ghost who kept hanging around his door was.
Qi Huaijin returned home as usual that day, but did not see the familiar little ghost girl at the door.
He glanced around unconsciously, but there was nothing there.
He wasn't there in the morning. At first, Qi Huaijin thought the little ghost had just temporarily left, since he had seen her in other parts of the neighborhood for a few days. However, whenever she saw him, she would obediently follow him back to his doorstep.
And today...
The little ghost girl is neither here in the morning nor at night.
Has she left? Qi Huaijin pursed her lips, her face somewhat gloomy, but she didn't know why she was unhappy.
Qi Huaijin had a rare bout of insomnia late at night. He couldn't help but get up and go to his study to write a detection talisman, confirming that there were no ghosts within a two-kilometer radius.
She's really gone.
When he went out in the morning, he still didn't see the little ghost girl. Qi Huaijin's low mood intensified, and he even slammed the door shut.
If I see the little ghost girl again, I might as well help her fulfill her wish... He has quite a few handsome single male ghosts in his shop, I can introduce them to the little ghost girl.
