Gu Qingqiu knew she was dreaming, because this scene clearly did not match her current reality, nor did it match her last memory.
She sat on the beach, leisurely enjoying the sea breeze, surrounded by a few scattered tourists, her feet sinking into the soft sand and light blue water. Under the sunlight, the beach shimmered, creating a sparkling scene.
Looking into the distance, the sea and sky merge into one, stretching to the horizon. Seagulls and other birds fly over the sea, their cries blending with the sound of the waves to create a beautiful symphony. Occasionally, small crabs can be seen lying on the sand, appearing so harmonious.
As she took another step forward, Gu Qingqiu seemed to hear the sound of waves crashing against the distant reefs. Upon closer inspection, she saw what appeared to be a tail fin flashing by.
It's a mermaid! Gu Qingqiu ran in that direction, but when she reached the edge of the reef, the surroundings seemed completely quiet, and she couldn't see any mermaid at all.
After thinking for a moment, Gu Qingqiu called out, "Troy? Is that you?"
The waves crashed against the rocks again, and a figure seemed to appear faintly on the seabed. Not to mention, that eye-catching head of silver-white curly hair seemed to be floating underwater.
Gu Qingqiu seemed to find his appearance somewhat cute, so she squatted down and tried to get a closer look at him.
Troye seemed to sense something and hid even deeper underwater, looking somewhat shy.
"Why are you hiding?" Gu Qingqiu asked him.
"Will you stay with me forever?" Troyes asked her.
Gu Qingqiu's first reaction was that she could now understand the mermaid's speech without relying on props, but she quickly realized that she was dreaming.
Strange, why would she have such a dream?
But she still nodded, and even in her dream, she made her promise: "I don't know how far you mean by forever, but I'm willing to spend as much time as possible with you. I'll stay with you for as long as I can live in this life."
"If you became a mermaid like me, wouldn't you be able to stay with me forever?" Troye blinked, seemingly not understanding why the human in front of him would answer like that. "Everyone says that humans love sweet talk and never tell the truth, but why are you unwilling to even say something nice to make me happy?"
Gu Qingqiu smiled. "I love you, but I can't stay here forever unless you can come with me and go wherever I want. I also have other important things that I can't give up, like... my family. Humans are complex creatures with complicated emotions and interpersonal relationships. I can't just ignore everything and be with you. Wouldn't that be selfish?"
In truth, Gu Qingqiu was thinking about her unborn child. She didn't know how much the flow of time differed between this world and the standby space station, but she clearly remembered the unusual activity that occurred on the eggshell before she came to this world.
Troye seemed to have a different understanding, a hint of resentment flashing in his eyes. "Are all you humans so self-centered? If it were me, I would do anything for the people I love."
Gu Qingqiu smiled helplessly: "Darling, not everything can be done according to one's own wishes. Just like you can't come with me to live on land. It's not a matter of whether you want to or not, but an obstacle of real objective conditions."
“Why not?” A resolute glint flashed in Troyes’ eyes. “I have already taken the potion prepared by the priest. I will soon be able to grow legs and go ashore. I am willing to come to land to live for you.”
"What?" Gu Qingqiu was dumbfounded, unable to understand why things had developed this way.
The next second, Troyes surfaced and reached out his hand to Gu Qingqiu.
Gu Qingqiu could only grab his hand quickly, and Troyes was able to get ashore with Gu Qingqiu's help.
However, Troye, who had never lived or walked on land before, soon collapsed on the beach, splashing around a few times, his body water soaking the sand on the beach.
Troye seemed to have never been so disheveled; his face was covered in cold sweat, as if he was suppressing extreme pain.
Gu Qingqiu looked around anxiously. Fortunately, there weren't many people on the beach, but Troye had no clothes to cover himself, which definitely wouldn't do!
So she said urgently, "Wait for me here, I'll be right back!"
"Don't go!" Troye reached out and grabbed Gu Qingqiu's ankle, almost tripping her and causing her to fall.
Gu Qingqiu said helplessly, "I'm not leaving. I'm just looking for clothes for you to wear."
"Why do we need to wear clothes?" Troye really didn't understand, since humans often go shirtless too!
Gu Qingqiu's gaze involuntarily drifted to Troyes's lower body, which had been transformed into human legs. She worried that if others saw him, they would report him to the mayor for being a pervert or something. But... there didn't seem to be a pervert as handsome as him.
After much persuasion, Troye finally agreed. To avoid being seen by others, he buried himself in the sand, leaving only his head and arms exposed, and looked at Gu Qingqiu expectantly: "You'll come back, won't you?"
"Of course, I promise." Gu Qingqiu coaxed him for a long time before he finally left, and he still felt it was unbelievable when he left.
This dream felt so real! And most importantly... when will this dream end?
