Chapter 189 An Alternative Tale of the West Wall (Part 3)

Two days later, the Huang family's entourage set off for Yuanjue Temple.

After a day of traveling in a grand procession, we arrived at Yuanjue Temple.

Even princes and nobles had to disembark before the temple gate, so many people had been waiting there since early morning.

The Huang family had two carriages, one in front and one behind. The one in front belonged to the madam, and the one behind belonged to the young lady.

In the carriage behind, the maid Hongyan came out first and stepped off the carriage using a stool.

Many people recognize her, and seeing her makes them even more eager to see the little chili pepper in the car.

This is what it means to have the desire but not the courage to act; to have the lust but not the guts.

A slender hand reached out and parted the car door curtain.

The young men were completely mesmerized.

When the other hand reached out, the young men almost had an impulse to reach out and help.

However, the only one who truly managed to support that hand was the maid Hongyan.

The servants on the other side helped hold up the curtain to make it easier for the young lady to come out.

Amidst everyone's anticipation, Huang Ningmeng stepped off the carriage, her pale yellow dress, shrouded in mist, accentuated her graceful figure. The veil covered half her face, revealing only her almond-shaped eyes, which shone brightly.

Showing the whole face is nothing special, but the half-concealed look is what makes it so alluring.

Although many people had seen what Huang Ningmeng looked like before, it did not stop them from wanting to see her face under the veil.

There is a beautiful woman I cannot forget; a day without seeing her feels like three autumns.

When you finally see someone, and they're still half-covering you, doesn't that make you feel like your heart is being scratched by a cat?

Just then, the beautiful woman pulled a finely colored jade flute from her waist and began to play with it in her hand. A pale yellow tassel was tied to the end of the flute; it hadn't been noticed before because it was mixed in with her skirt, but now it was clearly visible.

Whether it was their imagination or not, Huang Ningmeng seemed even more beautiful than before.

Under the adoring gazes of the crowd, Huang Ningmeng calmly and composedly walked behind her stepmother.

The stepmother spoke a few words to the host and then introduced Huang Ningmeng.

The host looked over, and Huang Ningmeng nodded slightly, her eyes carrying a polite smile.

Upon entering the temple, the two first burned incense and prayed to Buddha, and then added money to the incense oil.

The stepmother wanted to draw lots, but Huang Ningmeng had no interest in it, so she had Hongyan accompany her, and the young novice monk led them to the backyard to admire the flowers.

Just as Huang Ningmeng reached the door, she suddenly felt a connection from her soul. She stopped and looked down the corridor to the left, but there was no one else there except for the guards of the Prime Minister's residence.

"Miss, what's wrong?" Hongyan looked in the direction she was looking, but saw nothing.

"It's nothing." Huang Ningmeng withdrew her gaze and followed the little novice monk.

"Master, did you sense him?" The ring knew her well; nothing other than Ji Rufeng could have caused such a strong reaction in her just now.

"Yes, but I can't see him."

"Do you want me to help you locate him?" the ring asked.

"No need, as long as he's here, I'll be able to find him."

After thinking it over, the ring realized that since her physical functions had already been adjusted to the best state in the world, comparable to top-tier experts, finding someone by climbing over walls would be a piece of cake.

"Alright, I'll do as my master says."

Outside the east wall, a fair-skinned scholar, who had just been chased out, flicked his sleeves and said angrily, "Pulling and tugging, what kind of behavior is this?"

The servant pointed at him and laughed, "There are plenty of people who want to see my young lady. You'd better be sensible and wait outside."

"Is that your young lady?" The scholar was slightly taken aback.

"Indeed, my young lady is becoming more and more beautiful. I'm afraid there is no woman in the entire capital who can match her in appearance."

The servant left after he finished speaking.

The scholar was stunned; the young lady's graceful figure became increasingly clear in his mind.

...

After strolling through most of the back garden, it was time for vegetarian food.

Exhausted and panting, Hongyan looked at Huang Ningmeng, whose expression remained unchanged, and a strange feeling arose again.

After walking for so long, how can she still act like nothing happened?

Huang Ningmeng returned to her meditation room. She disliked her stepmother and naturally refused to eat in the same room with her.

The stepmother seemed to have gotten used to being disliked, and ordered someone to bring the food to her room without saying or doing anything.

The temple served vegetarian food. Huang Ningmeng, who always preferred roasted meat, frowned slightly, but still ate it.

If we want to eat something else, we'll probably have to go hunting tonight.

We'll be staying at Yuanjue Temple for many more days, how can we not eat meat?

Seeing her frown, Hongyan assumed she was about to lose her temper and reflexively lowered her head.

Although Huang Ningmeng never loses her temper with her, she will throw things and curse loudly, which Hongyan is still afraid of.

She waited a while, but there was no sound of bowls and chopsticks being smashed as she had imagined. When she looked up, she saw Huang Ningmeng eating her meal slowly and deliberately.

Hongyan was still in a daze when Huang Ningmeng told her to take the food out.

Why is Huang Ningmeng suddenly so mild-mannered? Or is she just tired today and too lazy to bother with anything?

Hongyan held her bowl and chopsticks, pondering carefully the whole way, but couldn't figure anything out.

After she left, Huang Ningmeng closed the door, bolted it, and sat inside to practice her martial arts.

The ring changed her physique, meaning she now has exceptional physical attributes and can easily master martial arts.

She already had a great many martial arts techniques and mental cultivation methods stored in her mind.

She chose the cultivation method that best suited her and began to practice.

Once in a meditative state, Huang Ningmeng became completely focused, paying close attention to the number of cycles of her internal energy circulation.

She sat there until late at night, and when she woke up, all was quiet outside.

Huang Ningmeng walked to the door, removed the latch, and opened the door.

Hongyan, who was dozing off against the door, slumped over due to inertia and almost fell on her shoes, but luckily she reacted quickly.

Upon seeing that it was her, he quickly stood up.

"Miss."

"Why aren't you going to sleep? What are you doing here?" Huang Ningmeng asked.

"I was afraid that you might not have changed or washed up yet, and that you might need my help, so I'm staying here to wait for you."

"Then fetch a basin of water and help me change my clothes."

"Yes, Miss."

Huang Ningmeng returned to her room and slightly pulled back the blanket on the bed to create the illusion that she had just been sleeping.

Hongyan quickly brought the water over and lit the lamp.

He glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw that there were indeed signs of someone sleeping on the bed, so he focused on his work.

Huang Ningmeng sat in front of the simple dressing table, waiting for Hongyan to remove her makeup, then take off her headdress, change her into a gorgeous dress and pajamas, and make her bed.

"Hongyan, go to sleep. This is a temple, there aren't so many rules here, I don't need anyone to keep watch."

"If Miss wants a drink of water, how can she manage without someone to take care of her?"

"Enough with the talk. I say what I mean. Now go."

“This…” Hongyan hesitated for a moment, but she dared not disobey Huang Ningmeng after all. “Yes.”

After helping her to bed, Hongyan turned off the other lights, leaving one on as was her habit.
