Ji Rufeng coughed lightly and quickly changed the subject, "Many immortals appear every day, most of them young people. There are at least 300,000 immortals in the six thousand great realms now."
"So many!?" Qiao Qiu looked up at the sky with a solemn expression. If all these gods attacked at once, could they defeat them?
The ring didn't change its expression at all, playing with the two copper coins. "Impressive, managing to get so many ants. They must be afraid of us."
“No matter how many ants there are, they are still ants. They can't seriously harm us, but they will make us very uncomfortable. Judging from the previous curse's scheme against us, there should be other tricks up their sleeves. It won't be as simple as this childish self-destructive act.” Ji Rufeng said. The spiritual energy in this world is dissipating, which has already explained everything.
Qiao Qiu rested her chin on her hand. "Is this just a small ripple before the storm?"
"It counts," the ring replied, and with a flick of its finger, a barrier covered the sky above them.
Even ants, don't they have pesticides? Anyone who dares to break through this barrier, one word: death!
Ji Rufeng waved his hand and put away all the divination tools, then put down the Go set. "Qiuqiu, you have the strengths of many schools of thought. How about we play a game of Go today?"
"Okay." Qiao Qiu picked up Hei Zi, got up and sat down opposite him.
The ring was happy to be a bystander; it was much better than killing innocent bystanders.
Ji Rufeng watched her pick up the black chess set, a doting smile playing on his lips, but he said nothing.
In most worlds, the black pieces go first. It's not bad that she's willing to be willful with him like this.
Qiao Qiu made the first move, but contrary to the safe approach of many, she placed her piece in the very center.
Ji Rufeng was slightly taken aback, then laughed. That was definitely her personality.
The two went back and forth, but Qiao Qiu's steps were rather chaotic, and Ji Rufeng followed her steps in a daze.
Seeing this, the ring laughed. He had thought Ji Rufeng's chess skills were exceptional, but now it seemed they were nothing special.
Qiao Qiu, being in the thick of it, could see that Ji Rufeng had no intention of yielding to her. On one hand, he was pressing her relentlessly; on the other hand, he had made another move, seemingly insignificant, but gradually encircling her.
This style of playing chess is quite in line with his cunning and manipulative personality.
Even so, Qiao Qiu continued to make strategic moves everywhere. She would place a piece, watch it be destroyed, and then place another piece.
The seemingly random move was actually more skillful than Ji Rufeng's.
If Ji Rufeng's strategy was calculated step by step, then Qiao Qiu had already written the ending for Ji Rufeng from the very beginning of the game.
Half the morning passed, and Ji Rufeng was defeated.
"Sigh, as expected, my wife is still the best." Ji Rufeng admitted defeat.
When I was playing this game, I felt like I had victory in my grasp, but who knew it would end like that? What a miscalculation!
Qiao Qiu toyed with the chess pieces and laughed, "People say chess is like life, but few know much about it, so even a genius can't use it. I agree with that. Ru Feng, what do you think?"
A bead of cold sweat trickled down Ji Rufeng's face as he instinctively glanced at the ring. What had this guy revealed? How did Qiuqiu find out?
The ring rolled its eyes at him. Some things are obvious, aren't they? Trying to hide these things from its clever owner is just plain stupid.
"So, what exactly are you hiding from me?"
The ring felt a chill run down its spine, its relaxed expression faltering before it chuckled awkwardly, "Master, what are you talking about? How could we possibly hide anything from you?"
"Stop grinning like that. Do you think I'm an idiot? Your interaction is so obvious. If I still can't notice, I might as well go and be blind." Qiao Qiu sneered.
Ji Rufeng coughed twice. "Well, Qiuqiu, there are some things that neither I nor the ring can be sure about. Things that can't be sure about can only be understood implicitly, not explained in words. How can I tell you that?"
"Oh, really? When are you planning to tell me?" Qiao Qiu asked.
“Um…” Ji Rufeng looked at the ring, but the ring avoided his gaze, indicating that he should explain it himself.
Explain this? How am I supposed to explain this? It's impossible to explain! Why don't you explain the ring yourself? Who was it that tried so hard to break them up in the first place?
Qiao Qiu could roughly guess what was going on from his expression, and her heart sank.
As expected, everything turned out just as she had guessed?
Qiao Qiu felt as if something was stuck in her throat, making her uncomfortable.
"Alright, tell me when you're ready."
Hearing that her voice didn't sound so natural, I knew I couldn't hide it from someone as clever as her. But if we were to actually tell her, wouldn't that be even more cruel to her?
Besides, we haven't reached that point yet, so there might still be hope.
Hope is created by people; as long as they don't give up, there's always a chance for things to turn around.
But if it really comes to that, there's nothing they can do.
I just hope she can forget about them.
Looking at Qiao Qiu, Ji Rufeng felt selfish. He wanted to be with her every moment, but he also didn't want her to forget him.
But reality is what it is.
Memories flood back, and each change in appearance is a test of their relationship.
On several occasions, their genders even became the same, but even in those situations, she remained true to her original intentions and continued to love him.
The opinions of the world seem to be unimportant to her.
We've been through so many years together, how can we just let go like that?
The ring looked at Qiao Qiu. It knew that its owner had trusted it at first, but later became suspicious. In fact, its owner's suspicions were not wrong. Qiao Qiu was using him. What appeared to be a relationship of mutual benefit was actually a way for him to pave the way for his ultimate goal.
Looking back now, I realize how selfish and heartless I was.
Later he changed, and she changed too.
He didn't ask to do anything for her, he just wanted to stay by her side to atone for his mistakes.
He always felt guilty towards her.
Finally, Ji Rufeng spoke up, "Okay, if I can tell you on that day, I will definitely tell you."
The ring didn't speak, but stared at Qiao Qiu without blinking.
Qiao Qiu forced a smile. "Okay, you said it."
Ji Rufeng nodded, "I said it."
This was another conversation like this, and Ji Rufeng felt extremely bitter inside.
The three of them looked up at the sky together, not knowing what they were thinking, or perhaps they were swallowing their tears.
After a while, they looked away, and judging from their expressions, they had clearly calmed down.
"It's lunchtime, what would you like to eat?" Ji Rufeng asked with a smile.
Qiao Qiu raised an eyebrow and thought for a moment, "I'm about to throw up after eating meat for a month. How about this, you make some vegetarian dishes, something light, and preferably some congee too."
The ring clapped its hands and laughed, "This is good, this is good!"
