Chapter Fifty-Four: I'm a Real Man (Part Twelve)

The newcomer was an unassuming servant boy. He carried in a huge food box and went straight to the place where the assassins were being held.

Inside the cell, the assassins were either sitting or lying down, their prison clothes stained with blood, all looking extremely disheveled. When they saw him standing in front of the cell door, they immediately surrounded him.

"Young Master Liu, do you have a way to save us?"

Shh, be careful, the walls may be listening.

The servant opened the food box, handing in the food while lowering his voice and saying, "Young Master has cleared all the checkpoints and sent me to inform you that this meal is on his behalf. The magistrate will release you tomorrow."

"Really? That's wonderful!"

"You can continue eating. I'm going back to report."

The servant closed the food box, picked up the empty box, turned around, and revealed a strange smile.

...

That night, Liu Ran was sleeping at home when he vaguely heard a noise, followed by a gust of cold air blowing on his face.

With his eyes tightly shut, he was suddenly jolted awake by the fright. But he dared not open his eyes, for fear of seeing something he shouldn't have.

At that moment, he suddenly realized that the bed beneath him was a little hard...

Liu Ran was both shocked and frightened, and his legs began to go weak—he fell to the ground.

I was clearly sleeping in bed, so how did I end up sleeping on the floor?

He dared not think about the reason, but he vaguely suspected that it was related to those ghosts.

"Liu Ran, are you afraid to see me?"

This was Shen Junming's voice. Liu Ran had dealt with him for a while and was very familiar with his voice.

Unexpectedly, there really was a ghost. Liu Ran was so frightened that she almost fainted. Trembling, she opened her eyes, got up, and knelt down, pleading, "Junming, I didn't kill you! Go find that assassin! Go find him! I beg you, please let me go, please!"

"Yesterday, the King of Hell sentenced him to the eighteenth level of hell. Today it's your turn."

"You...you...you sir, openly seeking revenge, doesn't the King of Hell care?" Liu Ran trembled, but dared not raise his head; he was terrified.

Shen Junming's voice seemed to echo from a great distance, yet it was still clearly audible. "When did I say I came here for revenge? I clearly came to find out the cause of death. Yama sent me to find out the cause of my whole family's death, otherwise we wouldn't be able to reincarnate. As for why I came to find you, you should know the answer in your heart."

"Please, let me go. I don't know why. Go find someone else."

"If you don't know, why would the King of Hell send me to find you? If you don't tell me, I'll keep bothering you. Oh, right, I have plenty of time to keep bothering you until after you're gone. Then, I can even take you to the King of Hell's palace for a confrontation."

"No, no, no, I'll tell you, it's me, it's me. Last month I bribed an assassin, but I didn't want to kill you, I only wanted to kill your brother."

Why did you kill my brother?

"Because he stole the woman I love!"

Does the woman you love know about this?

"She doesn't know, she doesn't know anything."

"You really don't know anything?"

"No……"

"If you were telling the truth, I should be going back now. Why haven't I gone back yet?"

"I... I'll tell you the truth, Ningxue... Ningxue knows."

"Who came up with this idea?"

"It's me, it's me."

Liu Ran was about to cry.

“Look up at me.”

The sound was like a clear spring striking a stone, unlike the previous sound which was like a gentle breeze rising upwards.

However, Liu Ran, who was already terrified, had lost all judgment and was trembling so much that he dared not raise his head.

"Liu Ran, you have committed countless evil deeds and caused the deaths of so many people. I have reached my limit! Guards!"

Liu Ran paused, looked up and saw Lord Chen standing angrily in front of him, with Shen Junbai beside him, whose temperament was as radiant as the moon.

"My lord, I..."

Liu Ran was speechless; he had already confessed to his crimes. What could he do now?

The officers arrested Liu Ran, but Master Liu, who had already been arrested, broke free and rushed forward, slapping Liu Ran twice with bloodshot eyes. "How could I have raised a son like you! Are you trying to drive me to my death?!"

Qiao Qiu sighed and looked up at the row of 'ghosts' standing there. Unfortunately, none of them were of any use, a waste of money.

The only thing she hadn't expected was that Liu Ran was so timid, not even daring to lift his head. She managed to get rid of him entirely thanks to her half-month-long practice of ventriloquism.

The officers seized Master Liu again. Lord Chen took two steps forward, waved his hand, and said, "Liu Ran, do you recognize these people?"

The men in black were brought up. When they saw him, their eyes were like knives, as if they wanted to cut him to pieces.

Liu Ran was still reeling from the shock of today, and her mind was blank. When she saw them, she nodded silently.

The leader of the men in black said hatefully, "Liu Ran, you heartless beast! We were doing business, it was perfectly fair, yet you actually tried to poison us! If it weren't for Young Master Shen seeing through your scheme early on and telling us beforehand, we would have been poisoned to death by you long ago!"

Speaking of this, they still feel lingering fear when they recall seeing the corpses of rats and cockroaches today.

"Take him back for trial."

The officials led the prisoners away with Lord Chen, and Qiao Qiu, as the plaintiff, also went along.

He Qixie, who had only followed out of curiosity that evening, glanced at the white-clad figure with complicated emotions. It turned out he had been painstakingly hiding this from him; little did he know it was all part of his plan.

Back at the government office, Magistrate Chen immediately delivered the verdict.

Although Liu Ran committed the crime of intentional murder, he was not the one who directly killed the person. Nevertheless, his crime was still unforgivable, and he was sentenced to exile to the frontier, never to return.

Although the Liu family was unaware of the crime, they were guilty of harboring a criminal. As the saying goes, "It is the father's fault if he raises a child without teaching him properly." Mr. Liu was sentenced to ten years in prison, and Mrs. Liu was sentenced to five years.

The other servants were each given five strokes of the cane and then sent home. The Liu family's property was confiscated.

Those killers who helped solve the case were spared the death penalty and instead served ten years of hard labor.

As for the Li family, Lord Chen also sent people to confiscate their property. Li Xuening was sentenced to be put into slavery and serve as a slave for life.

After hearing the verdict, Qiao Qiu left the government office.

On the deserted streets, the night breeze swirls up withered leaves, adding to the silence and desolation.

Looking at the slender white figure ahead, He Qixie couldn't help but sigh, and quickly walked to his side. "Why didn't you tell me? Aren't we friends?"

"It won't work if you say it out loud," Qiao Qiu said calmly.

"What are you planning to do next?" He Qixie felt that he had no way to deal with him. He had been deceived, so why couldn't he get angry?

"Please tell Suyue for me that if she cannot let go of her feelings for me and seek her own happiness, I will never see her again." After saying this, Qiao Qiu quickly left, and the direction she walked was actually the Shen residence.

He Qi Xie raised an eyebrow, glanced at a certain place behind him, and turned to catch up with her.

When Qiao Qiu returned to the mansion, the 'master' who had bought the house came to greet her.
