Chapter Ninety-Five: The Dark History of the Tribulation-Crossing Ancestor (19)

Within the dark, leaden clouds, tiny purple lightning bolts flickered faintly. With each flash, Qiao Qiu's heart clenched, fearing some unexpected event might occur.

Gu Yu had followed her for two hundred years, calling her "Master" for two hundred years. She was obedient, well-behaved, and very sensible. Even though she was a fake master, she still liked this disciple very much.

As bolts of lightning struck down, Qiao Qiu counted each one, wishing she could go down and see for herself.

Seeing her so worried, Xuanlan was already seething with jealousy, but his wife came first, so he comforted her. He patted her back and said, "Qiu'er, he will definitely ascend smoothly. He's the second person to ascend after you. If you can do it so easily, he certainly will too. As the saying goes, the student surpasses the teacher. I believe that as your disciple, he will definitely not let you down."

Qiao Qiu nodded, but her worries did not lessen at all. She craned her neck to look down and counted the numbers one by one, "Forty-seven, forty-eight, forty-nine... seventy-seven, seventy-eight, seventy-nine."

Suddenly the lightning stopped.

"What happened? Why did it stop?" Qiao Qiu's heart clenched with anxiety.

Xuanlan patted her shoulder, "Qiu'er, you didn't count correctly, look."

The dark, leaden clouds spread out in all directions, and a golden beam of light descended from the sky, directly entering the cloud cave below.

Qiao Qiu grasped Xuan Lan's hand, almost weeping with joy, and looked at him with a smile, "Ah Lan, look, the guiding light has gone down, the jade was successfully appraised."

Xuanlan nodded, his mood improved as a result of her smile, and he smiled back.

Within the guiding light, a small figure slowly rose up, then flew out of the guiding light and landed in front of Qiao Qiu the next second. Looking at her, his small, delicate face was still expressionless, but his eyes were filled with excitement. "Master, Gu Yu has lived up to expectations and has successfully ascended."

Qiao Qiu hugged him tightly, and the huge weight in her heart finally lifted. "Good, good, it's good that you succeeded, it's good that you're safe."

The other saints exchanged glances, hesitating whether to try and persuade them.

Xuanlan coughed lightly, "Do you and your master still consider me a part of your lives?"

Qiao Qiu then remembered him, and distanced herself from Gu Yu, introducing him: "Gu Yu, this is Xuanlan Divine Venerable, a top expert in the Upper Immortal Realm, just like us in the cultivation world."

Gu Yu nodded and cupped his hands in greeting to Xuan Lan, "Greetings..."

Xuanlan interrupted him and added, "You should call him Master Father."

Master? Gu Yu tilted her head and looked at her master, raising an eyebrow slightly as she asked.

Qiao Qiu rarely saw him with so many expressions, so she smiled and nodded.

Gu Yu obediently said, "Gu Yu greets Master, and I hope Master will take good care of me in the future."

"Get up, Shangdao." Xuanlan took out a small storage bag from his storage ring and gave it to Gu Yu, saying, "Gu Yu, this is a gift from your master. From now on, we are all family."

Gu Yu didn't stand on ceremony. He took the storage bag, looked at it, and saw that it was a small jade pendant for waist accessories. He casually hung it on his waist, looked at Xuan Lan, and said, "Master, you must treat Master well. To us disciples, Master is like a second parent. We all hope that she can be happy."

"Um, fellow immortal, your name is Gu Yu, right?" The holy immortals who had been ignored for quite some time finally moved over after some hesitation. Otherwise, they would have a hard time explaining to their sect leaders if they didn't ask.

Although Gu Yu had a cold demeanor, he wasn't actually that aloof because he often did things for his master. When asked, he nodded and said, "Yes."

"Good boy, how old are you this year? Pshaw, which sect are you from in the cultivation world?" The male immortal tried his best to show his goodwill, smiling very kindly.

Qiao Qiu almost burst out laughing.

Gu Yu's lips twitched. "Kunlun."

"Kunlun!" Upon hearing this name, a male immortal dressed in white sect robes squeezed through the crowd. "Since Fellow Immortal Gu Yu came from Kunlun, then go back to Kunlun. You still have many ancestors there."

Gu Yu looked at Qiao Qiu, blinked her eyes cutely, and didn't say anything.

Qiao Qiu understood his meaning and said, "My home is now in Shangqing Palace."

Gu Yu nodded, indicating that he understood, and then looked at the Holy Immortal of Kunlun and said bluntly, "Gu Yu's mentor is Ye Yu, not Kunlun. In Kunlun, it is Master's home, and therefore Gu Yu's home. But now it is not Master's home, and therefore it is not a place for Gu Yu to go."

Then Gu Yu turned to Xuan Lan and asked, "Master, can Gu Yu stay at Shangqing Palace?"

Xuanlan patted his head. "Of course you can. Your master treats you like her own child. Since I'm going to marry your master, I should naturally do the same thing as her."

"Thank you, Master."

"Good boy." Xuan Lan smiled gently. In fact, he could tell that the reason this little devil was willing to flatter him was entirely for the sake of his master.

If even this brat can go to such lengths for Qiu'er, how can he possibly lag behind?

"Sigh." The immortals all sighed and turned to fly away. They had expected this outcome and were not too disappointed.

Seeing that they had all left, Qiao Qiu looked down at Gu Yu and asked, "I know you don't like being a child. What's going on?"

Gu Yu replied, "It's Sisi. She gave me a 'rejuvenating' drug and said she wanted to give you a surprise."

Qiao Qiu's lips twitched. "Sisi is being a bit too reckless."

Gu Yu comforted Sisi, saying, "Master, please don't blame Sisi. She missed you terribly this past month, but she couldn't ask me to bring you anything, so she played this prank. The effects of this 'medicine' will wear off after a while, and I'll be fine."

"Gu Yu, you have never forgotten your identity as the senior brother." Qiao Qiu felt gratified, but also a little heartbroken. Gu Yu had been very sensible and understanding since childhood, and he treated Ye Yu's words as if they were sacred decrees.

“Master, I like this identity. This identity was given to me by you, and my junior brothers and sisters were also given to me by you. With them around, I never feel lonely.”

“Liking something means taking responsibility, that’s a good saying.” Qiao Qiu squinted at the sky and smiled, “Gu Yu, A Lan, let’s go home.”

"good."

"good."

...

Back at Shangqing Palace, Xuanlan took Gu Yu to a side hall, pointed out the room to him, and then told him that the storage ring he had given him contained cultivation techniques and common knowledge about the Upper Immortal Realm, which he could learn about.

Before leaving, Xuanlan hesitated several times, but finally decided to instruct Gu Yu to keep an eye on his master while he was away.

Once she begins researching curses, she must never be allowed to leave the main hall.

Gu Yu asked what had happened, and Xuan Lan only told him that it was because the curse technique was too powerful in the Upper Immortal Realm. His Shangqing Palace, supported by his immortal power, could block the Heavenly Dao's view, thus preventing Qiao Qiu from being punished by the Heavenly Dao.
