Chapter 104 - The White Hedgehog & the Owl

With a snap.

Something hit Xu Qiaoqiao directly on the head and then landed in Jun Qi's arms.

What is it?

Xu Qiaoqiao was a little dazed from being hit, because the thing that hit her head was carried by the wind.

"Coo coo?"

Jun Qi was startled and immediately tried to flap his wings, but he forgot that they were in a tree hole, where the space was very cramped. When he tried to flap his wings forcefully, he crashed into the tree wall next to him.

Xu Qiaoqiao wasn't frightened by the thing hitting her, but she was startled by Jun Qi's reaction, though she quickly recovered.

With incredible agility, Xu Qiaoqiao quickly climbed onto Jun Qi's head, hugged his head tightly, and kept chattering. Although Jun Qi didn't understand what she meant, it was clear that it had a calming effect.

After Xu Qiaoqiao was comforted, the two of them went to see what had hit her.

Because of Jun Qi's actions just now, that thing has rolled to the bottom.

Jun Qi and Xu Qiaoqiao looked at each other, not knowing what to do, because he was right in front of that thing, which was round and had a familiar aura, just like an egg.

And it was an owl's egg.

Jun Qi fell silent. He blinked. Even though he didn't know Xu Qiaoqiao's thoughts at the beginning, they had been together for more than four years, and he knew very well that she wanted to raise a cub.

He was certain that Xu Qiaoqiao would raise this owl egg since there was one right now.

After all, it's just an egg. In such a storm, who knows if its parents will still be there? Even if they are, the storm has washed away the egg's essence.

"Chirp chirp." Xu Qiaoqiao poked Jun Qi's beak, then slid it down to pinch the flesh of his face. After being married for so many years, she could tell right away that he was daydreaming.

Hey, aren't we supposed to take that thing out?

Why am I spacing out?

Xu Qiaoqiao didn't quite understand, so she kept bothering Jun Qi, telling him to stop being so engrossed in his own world and to hurry up and take that thing out.

"Coo coo." Jun Qi raised one wing and suppressed Xu Qiaoqiao. He glanced at Xu Qiaoqiao guiltily, really not wanting her to see the egg.

For some reason, Jun Qi particularly disliked hedgehog-like cubs, especially owl cubs. He might consider hedgehog-like cubs, though.

But Xu Qiaoqiao didn't think so. She could tell as soon as she saw Jun Qi that something was up.

Since Jun Qi doesn't want to take it out himself, then he can take it himself.

Xu Qiaoqiao nimbly broke free from Jun Qi's grasp, then quickly climbed down to the bottom, her nose twitching slightly as a strange scent entered her nostrils.

What's this?

Xu Qiaoqiao crawled a few more steps forward and encountered the thing. She sniffed it a few times and her eyes immediately lit up.

This is an owl egg!

And judging from the looks of it, she had just given birth not long ago.

I want to pet baby owls!

Overwhelmed with joy, Xu Qiaoqiao immediately used both hands and feet to hug the egg to her chest, which was just the right size for her to hold.

The little hedgehog moved so fast that before Jun Qi could react, she had already hugged the egg to her chest and was overjoyed.

Jun Qi was a little unhappy. It's just an egg, why be so happy?

Xu Qiaoqiao struggled to climb out of the egg, clutching it. Seeing this, Jun Qi had no choice but to hug Xu Qiaoqiao and pull her out from underneath.

The bottom of this tree hole is cone-shaped and concave; the egg just rolled in along Jun Qi's feathers.

In addition, the tree trunk inside the hollow doesn't get any sunlight, and it's been soaked in rainwater for days, so it's softened a bit.

So that egg was quite resilient and didn't break.

"Chirp!"

Xu Qiaoqiao was carried up by Jun Qi. She leaned against Jun Qi's wings, holding the egg in her arms, her eyes shining brightly, which was especially noticeable at this moment.

Although Jun Qi's one eye is nearly blind, his other eye can still see things clearly, just not as well as before.

Xu Qiaoqiao held the egg in front of Jun Qi, her eyes crinkling with laughter: "Jun Jun, look, it's an owl egg. We'll soon have a baby owl to raise."

Jun Qi seemed rather uninterested.

"Coo coo." What if this egg still has its parents looking for it?

"Chirp chirp." What name should I give him? Should he take your surname, Jun, or mine, Xu?

"Coo coo." Darling, maybe we shouldn't keep it; it's too much trouble.

"Chirp chirp." Junjun, you think it's nice too, right? But what should we call it?

"Chirp chirp." It's hard to tell if it's a female or a male.

"Coo coo".

Xu Qiaoqiao pondered for a long time. She looked at the white owl egg, which was about the size of a chicken egg, but soon a very cute baby owl would appear.

Just thinking about how cute the baby owls looked made Xu Qiaoqiao even more excited. She never thought that something she couldn't achieve in her past life would come true in this one. She was quite excited.

The storm outside had subsided considerably, but it still deserved the name "storm," so Jun Qi and Xu Qiaoqiao would have to stay in the tree hole for the time being.

They both lived a life of eating and sleeping, neither of them keeping track of how much time had passed. However, driven by animal instinct, they had their own way of calculating time.

This is something that can only be understood intuitively, not explained in words.

Fortunately, after another night of storm, the intensity gradually subsided, and with only a few scattered raindrops falling, the scenery in front of us was finally visible.

"Coo coo".

Now that the rain has stopped, Jun Qi should go out to find food. After all, he's not a little hedgehog that can just eat grass; owls still need to eat meat.

"Chirp chirp." Xu Qiaoqiao hugged the egg, raised her arm, and shook it at Jun Qi.

Come back soon.

After Jun Qi responded, he spread his wings and flew away. His tall body looked very reliable, and he no longer made any noise while flying.

Xu Qiaoqiao rubbed the smooth owl egg, her gaze following Jun Qi's figure until he disappeared before turning her gaze away.

She gently stroked the owl egg. She had already seen through Jun Qi's attitude, but so what?

However, it's uncertain what will happen to the original owl parent of this egg; it's unclear whether it will survive in such heavy rain.

After all, owls lay more than one egg per litter.

After the initial joy subsided, reason returned. Once Xu Qiaoqiao applied this to a human being, she realized the inappropriateness of her earlier thoughts.
