Chapter 554 - Otters and Jaguars

Let's turn back the clock to dusk. At this time, the sky is not yet dark, and only the faint rays of the sun shine on the water in the distance.

The river's current was swift, making a rushing sound, and a cool breeze formed above the water's surface.

The water level has been rising rapidly, and the air is very humid.

Everything here looks damp, as if the surrounding scenery is shrouded in moisture, and when the light dims, everything becomes hazy.

The orange glow painted the clouds and reflected its brilliance on the water. Suddenly, a small head popped out of the water. She looked around blankly, her limbs paddling frantically, trying to steady herself.

Where am I?

She had no idea how long she had been swimming. Looking around, Xu Qiaoqiao didn't see the ship and felt much more relaxed. Her first time swimming in this world was perfect. Fortunately, she was a swimming champion in her previous world, so she felt very familiar and comfortable swimming in the water.

"Ah Qiu!"

Xu Qiaoqiao suddenly sneezed slightly. She sniffed, blinked a few times, and shook her head haphazardly to dry the moisture from her hair. Then she slowly swam towards the shore. The water was cold, and she needed to get to the shore quickly.

Because of the rapid current, she had to keep her balance while moving, otherwise she would be swept away. When she escaped from the boat, Xu Qiaoqiao herself did not know which way she was going. Sometimes she was with the current, and sometimes she was against the current.

The river branched out in many directions, and she didn't know which way she swam. All she could see was a lush, dense forest, with tall shrubs that covered the tree trunks.

Xu Qiaoqiao struggled to swim to the side, but the current was getting faster and faster. Before she knew it, it started to get dark. There were no stars, no moon, and countless dark clouds covered the sky.

Then it started to rain. The drizzling rain pattered down on the water, the ground, the leaves, and the river seemed to come alive, roaring and raging.

"Eek".

Xu Qiaoqiao couldn't help but make a sound. In the turbulent river, she had to change her direction from time to time to avoid some branches rushing over the water. Even though she was only a few meters away from the shore, she couldn't reach it no matter what she did.

Gradually, Xu Qiaoqiao got tired and started to feel powerless. She needed to rest for a while, but she couldn't. If she relaxed now, she didn't know where the swift current would take her.

What if we manage to escape this rainforest?

Xu Qiaoqiao thought to herself that although this rainforest was obviously very large, it would be impossible to leave it in a short time by relying on the force of the water.

Therefore, we must remain vigilant and not let our guard down, as there are many potential dangers in the water.

Although her mind told Xu Qiaoqiao that she couldn't relax now, her physical exhaustion was undeniable. Just now, she relaxed a little, and the water engulfed her, carrying her several meters away, rendering all her previous efforts futile.

Xu Qiaoqiao remained motionless in the water for several minutes, spinning around several times until she felt dizzy and saw stars. Fortunately, she quickly adapted to the harsh environment and kept changing her posture. Thankfully, her hard work paid off.

As the distance from the shore continues to decrease, the influence of the water flow on Xu Qiaoqiao also diminishes.

The rain gradually intensified, and the sound of it falling on the leaves became much louder than before. The mud on the bank was unusually damp. As soon as Xu Qiaoqiao got ashore, she had only taken a few steps because she had exerted too much effort, and she accidentally fell into the wet mud.

It made a gurgling sound and even rolled around once.

Then it crashed into the exposed tree roots next to it with a bang.

The otter lay perfectly still on the ground, spread-eagled, with the tip of its tail slightly twitching, and the stars in front of it suddenly seemed to shine brighter.

"Ouch." Xu Qiaoqiao cried out in grievance, slowly raising her paw to rub the spot where she had just been bumped. The exercise in the water was the most intense exercise she had ever done since she was born in this world. She was so tired, so very tired.

Xu Qiaoqiao didn't mind getting dirty. She had just rolled around in the mud and was covered in grime, so she simply stayed there.

Junjun, where are you?

Hurry up and show up!

I'm so hungry! My stomach was full when I left, but now I'm hungry again.

After a long and arduous swim to the shore, feeling the breath of freedom, if all went well, I should go hunting, find some food, and treat myself properly, but...

Qiaoqiao is really tired right now.

All my muscles are tired; they'll probably be sore tomorrow.

Xu Qiaoqiao sighed. She was in a pretty good spot, with a large grove of trees overhead that sheltered her from the rain. She didn't know how long she had been lying there, but by the time she had regained some strength, the rain had gradually subsided.

"Waaaaah."

Where should we go next?

Xu Qiaoqiao looked up, slowly got up from the ground, and prepared to go find some food.

Otters eat frogs, and there are frogs in the rainforest, right?

Xu Qiaoqiao's mind was blank, and she didn't want to think about anything. Just as she took a step forward, the otter suddenly stopped, its whole body covered in goosebumps, and its fur stood on end.
