Chapter 580 - Otters and Jaguars

When Xu Qiaoqiao lifted the tent flap, she saw two panicked faces. They were already dressed and packed their things, clearly preparing to flee.

There was also a camera next to them. When Xu Qiaoqiao glanced at it out of the corner of her eye, she thought to herself, "Just as I thought. These adventurers must be documenting their adventures in the rainforest."

Both text and video are recording tools, but video is definitely better than paper.

Moreover, it expresses things more intuitively because it directly photographs things without needing to describe or draw what you see; you just need to scan it with the lens.

Xu Qiaoqiao patted Jun Qi's hand, indicating that he could put her down. He would get tired if she was held up like that, and there were only two humans inside, so it wasn't dangerous.

She looked at the weapons in their hands and blinked. Although the two humans had picked up weapons, they didn't seem to be aggressive or murderous. They were more curious, with fear mixed in with their curiosity, and their hands were still trembling.

"A complete novice, huh?" Xu Qiaoqiao thought to herself. Considering all the previous actions, she was pretty sure that was the conclusion. Suddenly, her gaze towards the two humans softened even more.

Oh, they're just two newbies. It's alright, it's alright. One of them even has her hair all messed up; she must have been woken up in the middle of the night, just like her.

After Jun Qi put Xu Qiaoqiao down, he followed suit and popped his head inside.

"Ed, what does this mean?"

Peter looked at the two heads that had poked their heads in, one big and one small, their eyes gleaming, seemingly very interested in them. His voice trembled slightly as he spoke.

However, it was clear that I wasn't as scared as before.

These two guys didn't seem to have any ill intentions. He could tell they were just curious, or maybe the little guy was more curious. The big guy, however, seemed a bit irritable, with cold green eyes that showed no emotion whatsoever.

If it weren't for the little guy, Peter believed that the jaguar would have pounced on them without hesitation and torn them to pieces; that was highly likely.

"How did an otter end up with a jaguar?" Ed's focus was completely different from Peter's. He stroked his chin, slowly squatted down, and looked into the little otter's eyes. The otter's dark eyes were filled with kindness.

These two creatures have absolutely no connection, especially in this rainforest. If you had to say they were related, it would be predator and prey, and besides, otters in the Amazon rainforest are quite strong.

Giant otters that are nearly two meters tall are not this soft and cute.

Upon seeing those eyes, Ed smiled slightly, and most of his fear had vanished. He turned on the camera, pointing it at himself and the little otter, and said in a kind voice, "Hello, little guy, my name is Ed."

Jun Qi looked at the human trying to interact with the little one, and snorted with disdain. He couldn't even understand the little one's language, yet this human actually wanted to communicate with her.

Peter stared at his companion's actions for a few seconds, blinked, and then, for some reason, squatted down as well. By the light, he could see the little otter's eyes clearly; they were bright and large, with several stars hidden inside.

The little otter seemed to be smiling; she meant no harm.

"Eek." Xu Qiaoqiao made a few sounds as she listened to the human's words, as if answering him and greeting him.

Unfortunately, this was another person with whom I couldn't speak the language.

...

Having met the two humans, Xu Qiaoqiao felt relieved. They didn't seem like bad people; they were probably here to film something, or perhaps to do some research.

Xu Qiaoqiao looked at the two humans who were secretly following her and Jun Qi. Although they were supposed to be stalking, they were very brazen and didn't try to hide their behavior at all. They were even carrying a camera and speaking in a foreign language at a fast pace, which Xu Qiaoqiao couldn't understand at all.

She glanced at Jun Qi, who also seemed impatient with the two humans, but out of respect for Xu Qiaoqiao, he didn't make a move and simply ignored them.

Clearly, the little guy is very curious about humans.

If Jun Qi could speak, he would definitely grab her ear and lecture Xu Qiaoqiao in a very loud voice: Never trust humans, never be fooled by their appearance, they are very cunning creatures, don't be deceived by them!

However, the two sides do not understand each other's language at all. They can usually guess each other's needs based on their tacit understanding and intuition, but they cannot express these needs in words.

Therefore, Jun Qi has been quite depressed these past few days.

"Waaah." Let's go back and rest.

Xu Qiaoqiao touched Jun Qi's ear. He was very active last night and didn't rest when he came back this morning. Obviously, he was not completely at ease with those two humans and needed to be vigilant at all times.

They only had a short rest when they left in the afternoon, and as expected, it started to rain heavily in the afternoon. The rain obscured the view, and the already damp road became even muddier, making it very difficult to walk.

This went on for several days in a row. Xu Qiaoqiao knew they were filming, but Jun Qi didn't. He just felt that having two tagalongs following him around was worse than having his previous neighbors.

At least the jaguar could read his expression, and most importantly, both of them could understand each other's words, which was the point that Jun Qi was most satisfied with.

Jun Qi and Xu Qiaoqiao stayed in their little nest. Seeing how tired Jun Qi looked, Xu Qiaoqiao went over and hugged his head, but not completely. She rubbed her chin against his nose and made some soft whimpering sounds.

—JunJun, go to sleep and rest for a while. It's still a long time before it gets dark.

Get some rest, otherwise who will patrol tonight? I can't manage alone.

Jun Qi rested his forehead against Xu Qiaoqiao's shoulder, listening to the little one's babbling. He felt sleepy and yawned. He bent his forelegs slightly, hugged the little one, rested his head on his forelegs, closed his eyes, and began to sleep.

Xu Qiaoqiao watched Jun Qi fall asleep quickly. He curled up, and his usually tall and imposing figure seemed less intimidating when he lay down like this. She touched Jun Qi's forehead and then his chin.

"Eek, eek." She made some unintelligible noises. Listening to the sound of the rain outside, she felt that their little nest was exceptionally peaceful and cozy, surrounded by bushes and natural walls.

Xu Qiaoqiao lowered her head, kissed Jun Qi's lips, and hummed softly, clearly in a good mood.

Then she carefully adjusted her position, snuggled into Jun Qi's arms, listened to the sound of rain outside, hugged her tail, and thought about what to have for dinner tonight.
