The arduous task of incubating the eggs then fell to the male penguin who had been waiting patiently.
Incubating eggs in temperatures below -40°C is no easy task. These expectant penguin fathers place the eggs on their feet and use the brood pouch (incubation spot) on their abdomen to keep them warm.
The incubation process will last for two months, during which time the male penguins cannot eat and can only rely on the fat stored in their bodies to survive the harsh winter while sleeping.
Jun Qi bent down, patted the emperor penguin egg, and thought to himself, "Oh well, you won't be here for long anyway." He thought about how his parents would take turns caring for him during the first few months after he was born.
"Gagaga." Boss.
Happy's voice suddenly came over. Jun Qi straightened up and looked up to see Happy walking towards him. It was already afternoon, and in the dim environment, a few rays of light appeared in the sky, which allowed him to make out the outlines of the scenery in front of him.
Jun Qi watched the swaying figure slowly approach him. He frowned, somewhat puzzled: "Happy, how did you find me in such a dark place?"
When he heard Jun Qi's call, Happy paused for a moment, then took several quick steps toward him. Clearly, like Jun Qi, he also had an Emperor Penguin egg in his pouch.
"Gah gah gah." No, boss, I was just wandering around and making noises.
Happy sounded extremely happy. Unconsciously, Jun Qi's image as the eldest son had become very tall and majestic in the hearts of the emperor penguins. In other words, they felt very safe. This was Happy's first time being a father, so he was a little uneasy.
Since his new wife wasn't here, he wanted to find someone to comfort him. He had no one to rely on since his wife wasn't around, so he started walking around, calling out as he went. He figured if the boss heard him, he would definitely respond.
Jun Qi: ...
I should have just ignored that silly emperor penguin.
Happy's words reminded him of his time incubating eggs, so Jun Qi felt itchy to fight again. However, he still had his and Qiao Qiao's child to worry about, and he couldn't afford any accidents.
Forget it, I'll stay away from Happy.
Thinking this, Jun Qi stopped making a sound and, using the dim light, began to walk to the side, quietly walking to the place where he and Qiao Qiao had been before. Then he stood there and waited quietly.
On the other side, they didn't know how long they had walked, but when they were halfway there, a sudden blizzard started, making their journey even more difficult.
Xu Qiaoqiao bent down and buried her head in her chest, pushing forward against the wind and snow.
Everyone was doing the same thing. I don't know who taught them, but I know that when we first encountered a blizzard, our bodies instinctively made this resistance movement.
These expectant emperor penguin mothers were focused on walking diligently. They had walked this route many times and remembered it very well, so they didn't have to worry about getting lost.
However, Xu Qiaoqiao also heard the commotion of the single emperor penguins following behind them. At that moment, she thought to herself, "So these guys are still huddled there, and they're starving along with us."
That's a bit tragic.
When they arrived at the beach, they didn't know how much time had passed. When they heard the sound of the waves crashing, everyone was obviously very excited and quickened their pace. The expectant emperor penguin mothers were also overjoyed.
They're almost at the beach. Once they've eaten their fill, their bellies will be full of food, and then they can head back.
By then, their babies will have hatched and been born, and they must be very cute little ones, fluffy and round, just like when they were born.
They're really looking forward to it.
And then there's the partner who's still going hungry; she has a son and children waiting for her at home.
With that thought in mind, everyone was immediately filled with enthusiasm and hurriedly walked towards the seaside, taking much less time than usual.
The snow that fell earlier has long since stopped.
After getting into the water and eating a few fish, Xu Qiaoqiao finally felt much better. As she went to store food, she thought about how to get back as soon as possible.
After all, emperor penguins store food in their stomachs.
Xu Qiaoqiao thought for a few seconds. Although she had lost a lot of weight during the past month of hunger, her first priority was to regain the weight she had gained before she could start preparing to store food.
But Xu Qiaoqiao was adamant that she wouldn't rush into gaining weight; she could gain it back later.
She still needed to go back and bring some food to Junjun first. However, it didn't seem appropriate to move the eggs while they were incubating. Otherwise, Xu Qiaoqiao was thinking of taking turns with Junjun.
Based on this, this method is no longer viable.
Are you suggesting that Junjun should eat what she vomited up?
Thinking about it, Xu Qiaoqiao fell silent, not knowing what to say. She felt a little awkward, though. She and Junjun had been together for so many worlds, and there really wasn't a world where they had to eat each other's throats.
"..."
Or perhaps we could look for some tools?
She wanted to see if there were any nets or anything like that; she remembered finding one before. But now the environment was so dark that she couldn't find the spot where she had buried the net. She decided to keep searching in the sea.
Xu Qiaoqiao thought that if all else failed, she would speed up the way back so that the fish could digest more slowly.
