Chapter 530 - Emperor Penguins

Happy was quick; once everyone knew that nothing would happen after dark, they all shut up and stopped howling, since it took a lot of effort.

With the emperor penguins' noisy calls gone, Xu Qiaoqiao nodded in satisfaction. Actually, she wasn't fully awake, and the darkness made her even sleepier.

"quack."

Forget it, go to sleep.

It's already dark, shouldn't we be sleeping?

With this thought in mind, Xu Qiaoqiao hugged Jun Qi's chubby waist, which was near his stomach. His waist was quite thick. Xu Qiaoqiao pressed her arm against it, but it wasn't even half the length of her arm.

I don't know what peace it was, but anyway, sweet dreams.

Xu Qiaoqiao leaned against Jun Qi, lowered her head, buried it in his chest, and like a quail, gradually drifted off to sleep.

Over there, after Happy notified all the Emperor Penguins, he rushed over to report the matter to Xu Qiaoqiao, but who knew that Sister Qiaoqiao had just gone to sleep!

What should we do?

The boss had said that if either he or Sister Qiaoqiao gave them any instructions, they had to report it to him no matter how well they performed.

But……

Happy looked at the two emperor penguins huddled together, standing there all alone. He glanced uneasily at his toes and his chubby belly, where soft and comfortable white feathers covered his skin.

What should he do now?

Happy started to think about this problem.

In the pitch-black environment, it was really not suitable to move around, so everyone clung together, looking at this world that had become unfamiliar in the darkness, not knowing what to do next.

Three seconds later, whether by coincidence or not, everyone yawned in unison.

Forget it, if I have nothing to do, I should just go to sleep.

Anyway, the boss isn't doing anything about it now.

After confirming that the surrounding environment was safe, everyone got into position, closed their eyes, and began to drift off to sleep.

After Happy finished thinking, he turned around and saw that everyone had fallen asleep. He walked around and found that he was the only emperor penguin still awake; his companions were already asleep.

But... Happy wasn't sleepy at all, and was even quite energetic.

"Gah."

Happy was a little disappointed. Everyone was asleep, and he was bored without the emperor penguins to play with.

But he himself didn't dare to leave this place, for who knows who might bully him; it was really dangerous.

"Quack quack." No goose paid any attention to me.

Happy wandered around, walking back and forth. When he got a little sleepy, he stuck to his companions and went to sleep with them.

From the spring equinox to the summer solstice, the Antarctic polar night spreads from the South Pole to the entire Antarctic Circle. Several days have passed by now. Fortunately, emperor penguins have stomachs that can store food, and they usually eat a lot, so they can temporarily withstand the arrival of the polar night.

Time continued to move forward, and the temperature began to drop gradually. Before they knew it, the emperor penguins huddled together even closer to each other to keep warm.

If they were adult emperor penguins, this would be the time for them to seek out mates and have intimate moments with them. Unfortunately, the emperor penguins resting on this ice are all underage; they are not even a year old.

What woke the emperor penguins was their need for food; their stomachs were already growling with hunger. After the first emperor penguin was awakened by hunger, several more emperor penguins woke up one after another. They raised their heads, looked at their companions, most of whom were still asleep.

"quack."

Jun Qi finally woke up. He didn't know how long he had slept. Generally speaking, especially for emperor penguins, the activities they do during the polar night are: eating, sleeping, and playing.

Jun Qi blinked, realizing the position he and Qiao Qiao had been in, and felt a little helpless. He slowly pulled away from Xu Qiao Qiao's embrace, and looked at her almost curled up into a ball, a smile appearing in his eyes.

"Gaga." Qiao Qiao.

Jun Qi leaned close to Xu Qiaoqiao's ear and whispered her name.

Hmm~ just five more minutes of sleep.

Xu Qiaoqiao gave an answer subconsciously, then turned around and continued sleeping.

"Sleep for five more minutes"—those words sound familiar.

It seems that she had done the same thing when she woke Qiaoqiao up before.

Five minutes later, then another five minutes... how many five-minute intervals would that take?

Jun Qi touched his stomach. The food he had eaten earlier had all been digested and was rumbling. He had eaten more than Qiao Qiao and was already hungry. Could it be that Qiao Qiao wasn't hungry yet?

Sure enough, three minutes later, less than five minutes had passed.

Xu Qiaoqiao woke up under Jun Qi's gaze. She yawned, wiped the saline solution from the corner of her eyes, subconsciously looked for Jun Qi, and then walked towards him, patting her little belly.

Junjun, I'm hungry.

The emperor penguins, now awake, began to quack. They straightened up, raised their arms, and flapped them back and forth several times, making a whooshing sound, accompanied by a gust of wind.

"quack--"

"quack."

...

After everyone woke up, they started shouting again. This phenomenon was repeated almost every day, but fortunately, Xu Qiaoqiao was always awake or half-awake when this scene was replayed, so she was not affected much.

Xu Qiaoqiao pointed at the quacking emperor penguins, like an early rooster, and asked Jun Qi, "Jun Jun, are you going to take them with you?"

Jun Qi glanced casually in that direction, thought for three seconds, and then gave his answer: "Take them. After all, Li Zi said that the boss is supposed to manage them in all aspects, and cooking is just one of them."

Oh, I see.

Xu Qiaoqiao nodded as if she understood, but she didn't know much about the boss's position. Besides, everyone is an animal, so we can't look at things with human thinking. But Xu Qiaoqiao guessed that she couldn't change that.

Jun Qi leaned close to Xu Qiaoqiao's cheek and gently rubbed it a few times before turning his head to start lining up the penguins. The emperor penguins, who were still asleep, were also awakened by the noise. At this stage, it was indeed time to go fishing.

Everyone lined up obediently, and then Jun Qi and Xu Qiaoqiao led the way to the beach. At this point, they didn't know which way to go, but luckily they had their leader.

The emperor penguins were overjoyed and called out happily a few more times.

When we reached the beach, it was noon. The previously dark sky suddenly lit up with some light, but it wasn't enough to make out the path ahead.

"Gah~"

With a few splashes, the emperor penguins jumped into the water.
