Just as Xu Qiaoqiao had predicted, the river level had risen rapidly in the past few days, especially with the heavy rainfall and the swift current, which looked very dangerous.
When they reached the riverbank, they could still feel the coolness brought by the rushing water. Xu Qiaoqiao carefully stretched out her paws and put them into the water.
Ew, it's icy cold.
But it's very comfortable.
Xu Qiaoqiao narrowed her eyes slightly, then looked at Jun Qi. He slapped down with his paw, rubbed Xu Qiaoqiao's head, and then barked a few times, indicating that he was going to find food.
Xu Qiaoqiao scratched her little paws at Jun Qi, smiled slightly, and said, "Be careful."
"Chirp chirp".
Jun Qi quickly jumped into the river and went downstream with the current. It seemed that he had the same idea as Xu Qiaoqiao: to catch fish. After all, with the water level rising, there would definitely be more fish coming.
They hadn't come to the river to look for food for the past few days. Instead, they ate a wild boar, whose meat was very thick and sturdy. Xu Qiaoqiao and Jun Qi ate it for several days, and that was after they had eaten their fill.
Finally, Xu Qiaoqiao found a place to bury the wild boar's remains.
Hmm... Since Junjun is going to catch fish, does she still need to go catch fish?
Xu Qiaoqiao thought for three seconds and decided that it probably wasn't necessary. Although she had grown taller and bigger in the past six months, her appetite hadn't increased that much. Between the two of them, Junjun ate more.
If they can't finish the food, they'll have to spend time carrying it back, which won't do. It'll be a waste of energy, and after they've filled their stomachs, they'll have to go find those two "guests."
After thinking it through, Xu Qiaoqiao relaxed. She lay on the bank, stretched her two front paws into the water, and created a small whirlpool in the water.
About half an hour later, Xu Qiaoqiao saw Jun Qi's figure. He was running towards her with an animal in his mouth. He had already come ashore. Obviously, the current was very strong. If he were to swim upstream, it would take a lot of effort.
Jun Qi seemed to know that this would be difficult, not to mention that he was dragging his own food. So, Jun Qi chose to swim to the shore and get ashore first.
Xu Qiaoqiao squinted at Jun Qi's approaching figure and the animal he was carrying in his mouth. It looked... well, it clearly wasn't a fish. Xu Qiaoqiao blinked a few times, trying to figure out what kind of animal it was. This seemed to be the first time she had ever seen such an animal.
"Waaaaah?" What is this?
When Jun Qi ran over with the animal in his mouth, Xu Qiaoqiao straightened up slightly and called out to him.
After Jun Qi ran up to Xu Qiaoqiao, he put down the animal he was carrying in his mouth and licked his paws. Xu Qiaoqiao was still waiting for his answer, but it seemed that he did not hear her question because the sound of the flowing water had drowned out her cries.
Also, the distance between them was quite far before, so her question just now came out subconsciously.
"Waaaaah?" Junjun, what is this?
Xu Qiaoqiao simply repeated what she had said before. She patted the creature that Jun Qi had brought over, looking very curious. This was the first time she had ever seen such an animal, and it really did look rather ugly.
It looks like... a manatee?
It's a manatee, isn't it?
There are manatees in the Amazon rainforest?
Unbelievable?
After confirming it, Xu Qiaoqiao stared blankly at Jun Qi. "Jun Jun, how far did you swim to catch the manatee? Or did this guy just wander in?"
Manatees mostly live in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean, usually in shallow seas and estuaries, and rarely inhabit rivers.
So, this guy must have wandered in.
And, how far did Jun Qi actually swim? He was swimming downstream with the current, so he was already fast. Actually, Xu Qiaoqiao couldn't calculate exactly how far Jun Qi had swum.
However... this is the result of the efforts of both sides.
hey-hey.
Xu Qiaoqiao patted the manatee; its flesh was very firm, as could be seen from the sound it made. After the initial surprise subsided, she was very satisfied with the food. Although it wasn't fish, it was her first time eating a manatee.
Jun Qi wasn't as excited as Xu Qiaoqiao. He had seen this guy while swimming in the water and thought it had a lot of meat on it. Plus, the little guy was waiting for him, so he simply chose this animal he had never seen before.
In addition, this animal moves extremely slowly.
Isn't this meant to be saved for him to eat?
There are also piranhas in the water. They don't usually attack unless they're starving. Anyway, even if he doesn't eat them, they'll still be caught by other guys.
Just then, raindrops began to fall, and it started to rain.
This rain couldn't have come at the worst possible time; they were about to eat.
Xu Qiaoqiao suddenly felt a little unhappy. She should have woken Junjun up earlier so that mealtime could have been earlier, or she could have secretly gone hunting while Junjun was asleep. Given her current state, it wouldn't have been a bad idea.
Okay, I've decided. I'll do it this way next time.
Jun Qi didn't seem to be affected much. He licked his lips clean, then lowered his head to rub his forehead against the guy's, picked up the manatee again, and walked back the way he came. After a few steps, he turned his head to look at Xu Qiaoqiao again.
—Keep up.
Then he walked forward very coldly.
Xu Qiaoqiao quickly got up from the ground, wiped her hands, patted her stomach, and ran forward, trying her best to keep up with Jun Qi's pace.
