Chapter 86 - The White Hedgehog & the Owl

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west; a day passes in the blink of an eye.

As temperatures rise, the sun seems to shine even brighter, but this also brings with it an increase in the rainy season.

"Coo coo".

Jun Qi stood like a signboard under the protruding stone slab, not daring to move, except that he would occasionally scrape his eyelids to remove some dirt and stains from his eyeballs.

Of course, he would occasionally turn his head, the kind that rotates 270 degrees, making Xu Qiaoqiao feel like her neck was about to hurt.

Xu Qiaoqiao leaned against Jun Qi, who was still holding her with his wings, leaning against the rock wall with a blank expression on his face and big, innocent eyes.

Fortunately, the rain started at midnight, just five minutes after she and Junqi finished their meal.

Before they even started cleaning up, they were soaked to the bone.

but……

Xu Qiaoqiao stared at the center of the little nest, where all the rainwater began to seep down. She wondered when the little nest was last built.

Moreover, she remembered that birds usually sought shelter from the wind and rain under the leaves of trees or in the fields. In fact, it was rare, no, to be precise, for a bird like Jun Qi to place its nest and shelter from the wind and rain together.

Don't let the small size of the little house fool you; it only houses a hedgehog and an owl. But ever since Xu Qiaoqiao arrived, Jun Qi's little house has become much more crowded.

Xu Qiaoqiao had a tool for grinding her teeth, which was a piece of wood with a neat cut, clearly taken from a human.

There are other toys, made of grass. Xu Qiaoqiao has found many ways to keep things interesting, pass the time, and distract herself. There are many small toys she has made in her little nest.

There were also some things specially found for Junqi, such as a few small balls made of grass, which Junqi loved to play with.

Xu Qiaoqiao couldn't possibly fall asleep in that standing position. When the rain stopped and she wanted to bother Jun Qi, she found that he had already fallen asleep.

Xu Qiaoqiao: ...

No way, when did Junjun go to sleep?

Since Jun Qi is asleep, let's not bother him. I'm a very well-behaved little hedgehog, Xu Qiaoqiao thought proudly.

She tried to break free from Jun Qi's wings, but Jun Qi, who was fast asleep, obviously did not resist, so Xu Qiaoqiao did it easily.

She first cautiously peeked out and looked around. A cool breeze immediately swept over her, and a gentle evening wind caressed her face. The night after the rain was indeed more comfortable.

If Jun Qi's little nest were built closer to the ground, Xu Qiaoqiao might be able to go down and take a stroll around.

Hey, that's great, May is coming!

Looking at the moon, which was barely visible above the sky, Xu Qiaoqiao thought happily that her happy days would begin once May was over.

As for next year, she turned to look at Jun Qi, whose tall figure was already close to that of an adult owl, with full plumage, incredibly strong claws, and wings that could stretch for nearly a meter.

Xu Qiaoqiao estimated that, based on her memories, Junjun would be in heat next year, and that meant she would be an adult now. Suddenly, she felt a little hopeful for next spring.

After the heavy rains in April, the weather in May was mostly sunny, with only one or two days of light rain. The rest of the time, it was all sunshine.

In May, Xu Qiaoqiao stayed obediently in her little nest and did nothing else, after all, what if she encountered another male hedgehog after going down there?

Xu Qiaoqiao really hated it if the other person kept bothering her. In her mind, those male hedgehogs were the kind of greasy, domineering CEOs.

I don't care what you think, I only care what I think.

All your rejections seem to me like a reluctant acceptance, though of course, it's possible that some female hedgehogs do use rejection to express their modesty.

At the end of May, when the mating season is almost over, hedgehogs are making the most of their time to mate.

But Xu Qiaoqiao was different; she was troubled by something else.

That is, the weather is just too hot!

The temperature wasn't even at its hottest yet, but Xu Qiaoqiao couldn't stand it anymore. It really showed the disadvantages of living high up.

By the end of May, the duration of sunlight had increased significantly compared to before.

In nature, there are many different ways to measure how fast time passes.

In just a few weeks, the forest has been transformed.

A lush, verdant atmosphere permeated the land, making everything seem so vibrant with life.

But the vibrant life at this moment had nothing to do with Xu Qiaoqiao.

Because right now, she's so hot she can't sleep.

The blazing sun hung in the sky, and Jun Qi's little nest was built on the edge of a cliff. The cliff was steep and towering, and the intense sunlight directly hit it, making the temperature rise considerably.

What kind of day is this? It's still the hottest afternoon. Xu Qiaoqiao hid under Jun Qi's wings and thought bitterly, who would have thought that she would be so hot that she couldn't sleep before summer arrived?

Hedgehogs are very intolerant of heat and have very high environmental requirements. They will not easily come out and move around when the temperature is high.

Last July, Xu Qiaoqiao spent almost every day applying the adhesive to the rocks. Once one spot got hot, she would move on to another, and so on.
