Chapter 74 - The White Hedgehog & the Owl

The day before I went into hibernation was a cloudy day.

The sky was overcast and low, looking like it was about to rain.

Before dawn that day, Xu Qiaoqiao kissed Jun Qi and clung to him, which made Jun Qi both annoyed and happy.

After falling asleep, Xu Qiaoqiao never woke up again.

At first, Jun Qi didn't understand what was wrong with the little hedgehog, thinking it was just that it hadn't woken up. But as time went on, he finally realized something was wrong.

Birds don't need to hibernate, so they don't know what hibernation is.

I don't know why little hedgehogs hibernate.

Jun Qi dug Xu Qiaoqiao out of the pile of fallen leaves, gently touched her with his beak, and rolled the little hedgehog, which was now curled up into a small ball.

Their densely packed quills were fully exposed, a measure taken by the hedgehog clan to protect themselves.

Xu Qiaoqiao's motionless state initially frightened Jun Qi. He carefully touched her, as her behavior made him somewhat afraid.

When hedgehogs hibernate, they have the lowest body temperature of any animal in the world, and their breathing rate also slows down considerably. Jun Qi felt that Xu Qiaoqiao had almost no body heat.

"Coo coo".

He didn't know what this meant, but he knew that the little hedgehog was cold, and since she was cold, he had to warm her up.

Just then, a breeze blew by, bringing a touch of coolness.

Then it started snowing.

A snowflake landed on Jun Qi's eye. He blinked, and the snowflake quickly melted away.

"Coo coo".

It's snowing, so the little hedgehog needs to be even more careful not to catch a cold.

Jun Qi buried Xu Qiaoqiao back in the pile of fallen leaves, then walked to her side, spread his wings, and covered Xu Qiaoqiao with his large wings, which covered half of the nest.

Only at such close range could Jun Qi feel Xu Qiaoqiao's heartbeat.

Her heartbeat was slow, but in the quiet snowy night, it seemed to be right next to her ear.

This is the first snow of the year, but unfortunately, Xu Qiaoqiao is destined not to see it.

Hedgehogs usually can't resist hibernating when the temperature is around 6 degrees Celsius; in fact, they would definitely go into hibernation.

Therefore, we are destined never to see such a beautiful snow scene again.

In mid-December, this was the first time Xu Qiaoqiao had entered hibernation.

She slept soundly, but Jun Qi suffered.

The forest after the snowfall is absolutely beautiful.

The land was covered in silver, with snow everywhere, and the earth seemed to be entirely white.

This is a rare sight.

"Coo coo".

Jun Qi poked his head out, shook off the snow on his head, seemingly dazzled by the whiteness before him.

Because of his sleeping position last night, Xu Qiaoqiao was protected under him the whole time, and because his wings were always open, snow had accumulated on his wings.

"Coo coo".

Jun Qi called out, shaking the snow off his head. He stared blankly at the bright blue sky.

Why isn't it dark anymore?

Because Xu Qiaoqiao was the last to wake up from her hibernation, Jun Qi unusually didn't go looking for food. After confirming that Xu Qiaoqiao was indeed alright, he simply went to sleep.

When I went to sleep, it was probably not even halfway through the night.

Owls have very regular sleep schedules.

It's important to know that owls sleep for about 12.1 hours a day, and when they sleep during the day, they keep one eye open and one eye closed for safety and to stay alert, taking turns letting both eyes rest.

But Junqi is different; it's probably an anomaly among owls.

It's also possible that they inherited some habits from their previous life, and they don't take dangerous things very seriously.

I always sleep soundly and never have the habit of opening one eye while sleeping. If I do, it's probably because the situation is quite dire.

Xu Qiaoqiao, who was being protected by Jun Qi, was still fine. If you looked closely, you could probably still hear her breathing.

The snow was quite heavy last night, about ten centimeters thick. Luckily, Junqi chose a good spot, with a short, overhanging beam directly above it.

Most of the snow had fallen there, but even so, the snow on Jun Qi's wings was not to be underestimated.

A few whooshing sounds.

Jun Qi shook off the snow from his wings and stretched a bit. He slowly stood up straight and shook his whole body several times.

"Coo coo, coo coo~"

There's quite a bit of snow in their nest, but that's okay. It will melt slowly, unless the snow is very deep and affects their normal lives.

Although it was confirmed that Xu Qiaoqiao was alright at the very last minute, Jun Qi was still worried.

He pulled Xu Qiaoqiao out of the pile of dead leaves again, and touched her with his mouth. Because Xu Qiaoqiao had wrapped herself up like a ball, Jun Qi's touch caused her to roll a little further on the pile of leaves.

Why aren't you awake yet?

Are you hungry after sleeping for so long?

Jun Qi's eyes seemed to reveal this emotion. He used to be a loner with little social interaction, so it didn't bother him.

During this period, he adopted a little hedgehog, so this couldn't be ignored.

The little hedgehog has a small appetite and is very serious when eating. It has beautiful eyes and is small in size, but the quills on its back are annoying.

Because of the special circumstances today, Jun Qi woke up in the afternoon, but because of the snow last night, the daytime felt brighter than usual.

After confirming that Xu Qiaoqiao was indeed alright, Jun Qi buried her again. The fallen leaves nearby were a bit wet, so he threw them all down.
