Chapter 17: Seventeen
"Why are there two rabbits here?"
Yang Daya was surprised in her heart but asked the question, but she actually already had an idea in her mind.
Putting aside other things, just looking at the wounds on the heads of these two rabbits, you can tell that it was most likely done by Third Aunt.
Others would bring back rabbits intact when catching them, but her third aunt was particularly fond of smashing them on the head.
"Alas, it's a pity that these two rabbits are dead. Otherwise, if we took them to the market to exchange for supplies, we should be able to get a lot of good things."
Yang Daya took the rabbit out of the backpack. She didn't know how to handle the prey, so she could only leave it like this for now.
"There's nothing I can do about it. If they don't die, I can't catch them!"
Lin Wanwan also felt a little sorry. There was no shortage of meat at home for the time being, but she was more in need of daily necessities.
In the morning, I saw my eldest and second sisters-in-law using mirrors when they were dressing up.
There was only my own room, and there was nothing in it except a wooden comb with missing teeth.
"Third Aunt is right. I'll do the same thing next time I see you!"
Between dead prey and no prey, Yang Daya wisely chose dead prey.
"Yes, I will."
Lin Wanwan nodded seriously. She would never miss anything edible.
What’s more, it’s delicious meat!
After resting for a while at home, the two of them went up the mountain together with their backpacks on their backs.
This time I have to pick up firewood for the cowshed. I have already earned 5 work points in the morning. If I earn three more, today's task will be completed.
Although someone helped her, Yang Daya didn't think about earning 10 work points.
She was still a child, still growing up, and her third aunt was not in good health either. There was no reason to treat her like a cow.
"Daya, are you sure there's any dry firewood here?"
Lin Wanwan watched the road ahead becoming more and more remote, and looked around curiously. There were dense trees all around, and it didn't look like a place with dry firewood.
"It doesn't have to be dry wood, just any wood will do, it's just that dry wood will be lighter."
What Yang Daya didn't say was that she rarely chopped wood on weekdays, after all, it required a lot of strength.
Most of the time I pick up some dry branches or something like that, which makes it easier to carry.
"But this place doesn't look like a place with dry firewood, and we don't have any machetes."
Lin Wanwan looked around and saw lush greenery everywhere. There were no dry or dead branches at all.
"I saw a dead tree here a few days ago. Why is it gone?"
When Yang Daya was picking grass for pigs on weekdays, she would also pay attention to the surrounding environment to prepare for collecting firewood in the afternoon.
But when I went up the mountain today, I found that the dead tree I saw before was gone.
I guess it was picked up by other people in the village.
Oh, why am I so unlucky?
"Aunt San, it seems that the dead tree trunk has been picked up by someone. Let's go look somewhere else!"
Yang Daya was a little depressed. This was the first setback she had encountered since she started living with her third aunt.
I didn’t lead the way well, I just hope Third Aunt won’t be disappointed!
Yang Daya looked at Lin Wanwan nervously, only to see that she had an indifferent expression on her face and was looking around.
[System, do you know where there are dry branches? ]
Lin Wanwan looked very serious, but in fact she had already begun to seek help from the system in her heart.
[Go 200 meters to your left. There's a dead old tree there. It should be enough for you to complete the quest.]
Following the guidance of the system, this time it was Lin Wanwan who led the way.
Yang Daya had nowhere else to go, so she had to follow her third aunt and the other two people along the way.
Soon they saw the old dead tree.
The inside of the trunk has been eaten away by insects and the moisture has evaporated, so the branches can be separated with just some force.
"Aunt San, it turns out that I'm luckier if I follow you."
Yang Daya immediately went over, broke off the dead branches and put them in the backpack.
Because the branches in the middle were thicker, the two backpacks were filled up quickly.
"I'll go with you this time. I'll wait for you near the bullpen. This way we can go faster."
Lin Wanwan picked up her basket of branches and went to the cowshed with Yang Daya.
There are four or five cows and two donkeys in the cowshed.
There were two old men feeding grass to the cows. After Yang Daya came over, the two men recorded her work points and then took firewood out of her backpack.
Yang Daya quickly completed the task, and the two of them continued to walk into the mountains with empty backpacks on their backs.
Just one work point short, Yang Daya gave up her job helping out at the mill and chose to continue looking for branches.
Although it is a bit more tiring to find firewood, work points are recorded on time for helping at the mill.
It's not worth wasting two hours for one work point.
It’s better to leave such a good task to other children in the village!
The two of them quickly found two more baskets of branches. After Yang Daya delivered them, the two of them carried the remaining basket of branches back home.
It was getting late, and I thought Cai Guifen and the others would be back soon.
"Aunt San, I'm going to take you to the vegetable garden to pick vegetables. You don't know where my vegetable garden is, right?"
Yang Daya carried a vegetable basket and took Lin Wanwan around the yard to the vegetable patch in the back garden.
The vegetable garden is full of various vegetables, including cabbage, greens, beans, cucumbers...
Seeing so many delicious vegetables, Lin Wanwan followed Yang Daya to pick half a basket of beans and a few peppers.
"Aunt San, go look in the vegetable patch over there. There should be some cucumbers ready to eat."
Yang Daya walked out with a basket. When she turned around, she saw a cucumber field nearby, so she asked Lin Wanwan to go in and look for some.
"Daya, these cucumbers are too small to eat!"
Lin Wanwan looked around and found that the cucumbers were relatively tender, only slightly longer than her finger.
But it would be a bit of a waste to eat them now, so let’s wait until they grow a little bigger!
"Okay then, let's go back quickly. Grandma and the others should be back by now."
I was originally thinking of looking around first to see if I could pick a cucumber to satisfy my craving.
Unexpectedly, the cucumbers had not grown yet, and there were voices coming from the gate of the yard. Yang Daya felt a little anxious and urged Lin Wanwan to go back.
"Well, let's go back quickly, I'm hungry!"
I spent the whole morning collecting pig grass, catching snails, and even cutting firewood in the mountains. It would be strange if I wasn't hungry!
"Daya, you're taking your third aunt to work again!"
As soon as she came in, Yang Daya was poked twice on the forehead by Liu Huazhen.
This little girl just relies on her third aunt's good relationship with her to order people around.
She was ashamed for her own daughter. How could a niece force her aunt to do work every day?
"Mom, you are really my real mom!"
"I don't think you blame me for letting Third Aunt do the work, but you are jealous of my good relationship with Third Aunt."
When Liu Huazhen reached out her hand again, Yang Daya broke free and ran away.
He didn't forget to make a face at Liu Huazhen, then turned around and went back to the kitchen.
