As night falls, only a few stars twinkle in the dark sky, emitting faint starlight.
The street lights on Jiangcheng Street lit up, illuminating the way home for pedestrians, and the lights in each household in the high-rise buildings also lit up, illuminating the figures of people walking indoors.
In the Yun family's living room.
Warm white light poured down, and the Yun family was preparing to have dinner at the dining table. After Yunmu brought out the meal, she was setting the table for the dishes.
Yun Ranran sat on the dining table stool, looked at the busy Yunmu, Yun's father who was carrying a bowl of rice, and Yun Chen who was waiting to eat, pursed her lips and said:
"Dad, Mom, my grades are out, and I've decided to apply to Kyoto University."
Hearing this, Yunmu and Yunfu looked at each other.
Father Yun put down the bowl and spoon in his hands, smiled and clapped his hands enthusiastically for his daughter, saying, "Okay, Dad supports you."
Yunmu also had a smile on her face. After Yun's father's applause died down, she asked Yun Ranran about the details: "Ranran, Mom supports you too, but is Kyoto University in Kyoto?"
Yun Ranran nodded: "It's in Kyoto."
Jiangcheng is some distance away from Kyoto. Even taking the fastest high-speed rail takes two or three hours, so it is definitely not close to home.
Yunmu frowned worriedly when she heard this. She glanced at her and said, "Ranran, there are many good universities in Jiangcheng. Are you sure you want to go to such a far place to study alone?"
These words were said with a certain urgency and unconscious worry.
Yun Ranran looked at Yunmu and pursed her lips. Her delicate eyes showed determination as she said, "Mom, I've thought about it carefully at home these past few days. Kyoto University is the school I want to go to the most."
Hearing her insistence, Yunmu knew that her daughter had made up her mind.
Yunmu didn't say anything else, but her brows were still furrowed, her expression full of worry. The mother and daughter stood there in a stalemate for a moment, and the atmosphere became tense.
Seeing this, Father Yun spoke to ease the atmosphere. He pulled Yunmu to sit down and said with a smile, "Eat and talk, eat and talk. Ranran, you sit down too."
Yunmu sighed, sat down and picked up the bowl. Yun Ranran didn't say anything else, picked up the chopsticks and slowly started eating.
The atmosphere seemed to have relaxed, and Father Yun said with a smile: "Ranran, are the test results out yet?"
This question was not difficult to answer. Yun Ranran looked up and whispered to her father, "I got 611 points."
"Bang!" Upon hearing the result, Yun's father dropped the spoon in his hand into the bowl and said in disbelief, "I got...over 600?"
After he finished speaking, he glanced at Yunmu, his eyes asking if he had just heard correctly.
Yunmu also met her husband's eyes with surprise, and nodded affirmatively to indicate that he had heard correctly. Her daughter did say that her score was over 600.
"Good, my daughter has made it big. My Yun family is so proud of it." Yun's father slammed the table excitedly, smiling from ear to ear and laughing out loud.
He stood up and danced around, muttering "good" and "successful". Yunmu was amused by this and pulled him to sit down and said, "Look at you, you are so useless! The children are watching you."
At the side, Yun Chen was sitting there, eating his meal with his own bowl, but when he saw his father Yun shouting and laughing, he was startled and stopped. He looked at his father Yun with a blank face, his watery eyes full of confusion.
Father Yun turned to meet his son's innocent gaze, coughed awkwardly twice, and said, "Chenchen, you little brat, hurry up and eat your meal. Why are you looking around?"
"Chenchen has eaten well, Dad."
Yunchen didn't understand what his father was doing. After being scolded for no reason, he puffed up his cheeks, lowered his head angrily and continued eating, showing with practical actions that he was not looking around.
Yun Ranran, who was sitting at the table, saw her father's exaggerated expressions of surprise and knew that his father was happy for her. She couldn't help but smile and chuckled.
Father Yun didn't pay any attention to his daughter's little behavior. He laughed heartily, showing his two rows of white teeth and said, "Ranran, if there's anything you want, Dad will buy it for you."
Although Yunmu had just had an argument with her daughter, she did not stop Yun's father from saying this, and obviously agreed with it.
Yun Ranran lowered her eyes, smiled, thought for a moment, and said, "Not yet. Dad, let me think about it."
"Okay, think about it slowly, and tell me what you want when you figure it out." Father Yun said with a smile.
After the topic of applying for college was revealed, the family had a very pleasant dinner at the table. Before going to bed at night, Yunmu brought some fruit into Yun Ranran's bedroom.
Boom boom boom——
"Ranran."
Yun Ranran got up and opened the door. She looked up and saw Yunmu standing at the bedroom door.
She made way for Yunmu to come in and watched Yunmu put the fruit plate in her hand on the bedside table. She had some guesses in her mind about what Yunmu was going to say, so she lowered her head and said nothing.
Yunmu turned around and saw her daughter's silent expression. She couldn't help but smile and took her hand and said, "Ranran, Mommy came here because she wants to talk to you."
"Yeah." Yun Ranran was pulled to sit down and nodded.
There was only one bedside lamp on in the bedroom, casting a dim light on the mother and daughter beside the bed, making it impossible for them to see each other's facial expressions.
Yun Ranran looked at Yunmu and saw that she first seemed to lower her head and sigh, then looked at her and softly talked about applying for college. As she expected, she didn't have the patience to listen.
"Ranran, you're a girl, and your mother doesn't want you to go too far..."
Yunmu had just finished speaking when Yun Ranran interrupted her in a deep voice, "Mom! I've already thought about this matter seriously. I don't want to discuss it anymore."
"...Mom knows." Yunmu paused, looked at her daughter, and continued to explain softly, "Mom has discussed this with your father and respects your opinion."
When Yun Ranran heard this, she was like a punctured balloon. The high spirits she had just felt disappeared in an instant. The corners of her lips trembled a few times and she returned to silence.
"After all, this is something that will affect your entire life. Your father and I can only give you our opinions as a reference. Ultimately, it's up to you to make your choice. We will support whatever decision you make."
Yunmu smiled and finished what she wanted to say, then patted the back of her hand, and her warm body temperature passed through her skin.
Yun Ranran's hand was burned by the temperature. After pulling it out uncomfortably, she pursed her lips and whispered, "Mom, thank you and my dad for understanding me."
"However, Mom still wants to tell you that you must pay attention to safety when you go to school outside in the future." Yunmu reminded with a smile.
Yun Ranran smiled lightly and nodded: "I understand, Mom."
Yunmu didn't stay long after saying that. She got up and walked out of the bedroom, leaving only the plate of cut fruit.
Yun Ranran sat alone in the bedroom, looking at some of her favorite fruits on the bedside table. She slowly took them and ate them piece by piece with a smile on her face.
Everything will be fine.
Before going to sleep that night, she said to herself silently.
