Chapter 5 The Sucker's Wife Refuses

On the other side, after leaving Mo Qian's side, Li Jue went directly to the courtyard where the old lady was located.

Upon entering the house and seeing the old lady, a look of sadness flashed across his face, and even his eyes were filled with tears.

When the old lady sitting in the hall saw Li Jue's aggrieved look, she immediately hugged him tightly as he ran up to her, her face showing a hint of anxiety.

"Goodness, what's wrong? Why do you look so aggrieved?" The voice was tinged with anxiety.

"Grandma, Madam doesn't like me. She doesn't like any of the things I send her," Li Jue said with a mournful face, his voice filled with grievance.

"My dear, don't be sad, it breaks your grandma's heart," the old lady said to Li Jue, who was nestled in her arms. Her voice was full of affection.

"It's Qianniang's fault for not liking you; it has nothing to do with Guai Guai. Guai Guai is the best," the old lady said to Li Jue in a coaxing tone.

"But... Madam." Li Jue's expression softened slightly after hearing the old lady's words. However, some sadness and grievance could still be seen on his face.

"My dear, don't be sad. Since Qianniang is so ungrateful, don't go to her courtyard anymore," the old lady then added.

“But if I don’t go, I won’t be able to keep her on her list,” Li Jue said, his face contorted with bitterness. His voice also betrayed a hint of distress.

"Don't worry, my dear, Grandma will figure something out," the old lady said, coaxing Li Jue. Her voice was gentle and kind.

"Yes, Grandma." After hearing the old lady's words, Li Jue's previously worried expression eased a little.

Her voice also had a softness unique to children.

After coaxing Li Jue, the old lady played with him for a while longer before having a servant take him away.

After the person left, the old lady's face showed displeasure.

She didn't expect Qian Niang to be so stubborn. Despite Jue Ge's repeated attempts to win her over, she remained unmoved, which made Jue Ge quite unhappy.

How insensible of you!

"Madam, the lady is still not giving any advice. What should we do? I think we should send the general to persuade her."

"After all, the general is her husband, so she has to consider things a bit," said the old woman beside the old lady, her face carrying a hint of flattery.

"Hmm, that does make some sense." The old lady's face flashed with agreement after hearing what the servant beside her said, and then she continued.

A smile appeared on his face.

“That’s right. No matter what, we are outsiders. Zhan’er is Qian Niang’s husband, so he is naturally easier to persuade than us.”

A faint smile graced her face, and even her furrowed brows relaxed.

"Yes, Madam, this matter requires the General's intervention; only then can it be resolved," the servant beside the old lady said with a smile.

"Yes, indeed," the old lady then said, a thoughtful expression on her face.

Afterwards, the old lady sent someone to deliver a message to General Li Zhan, asking him to come to her courtyard.

After about fifteen minutes

Li Zhan arrived at the old lady's courtyard.

"Mother, what brings you here? I still have a lot of official business to attend to," Li Zhan asked the old lady as he entered the room.

His face still held a hint of displeasure. His voice was filled with annoyance.

"Of course I called you here because I have something to say," the old lady said to Li Zhan, her voice rising slightly.

"What's the matter? Why did you send someone to call me? Why the rush?" Li Zhan then found a chair and sat down, speaking to the old lady.

His face still showed a hint of confusion, and even his voice was much louder.

"Zhan'er, for so many days, Qianniang has not said anything about adopting Juege as her stepson. This is not a good thing."

The old lady looked at Li Zhan and spoke with a serious expression on her face and a earnest tone in her voice.

"Mother, I know this can't go on, but it's just that Qian Niang hasn't agreed yet."

After hearing the old lady's words, Li Zhan immediately replied, his face showing a hint of annoyance at the matter.

“We can’t keep putting it off. Jue-ge is about to start his studies, and we can’t let him fall behind,” the old lady added immediately.

His face showed a hint of disapproval. His voice was three degrees lower.

“I think it will be difficult to get Qianniang to agree,” Li Zhan added, his face showing a hint of dissatisfaction with Mo Qiandi, his voice tinged with coldness.

"It has to be done, no matter how difficult it is." The old lady saw the dissatisfaction on Li Zhan's face, but she still shouted sternly.

“When you went out to fight before, I saw that Qianniang secretly sewed robes for you. She must have been thinking of you.”

“It’s been so long since you last visited Qianniang’s courtyard. If you speak to her more gently, she will naturally not be the way she is now.”

"They might soften their hearts and agree to it," the old lady added immediately, her voice tinged with seriousness.

“But I went there last time, and Qian Niang’s attitude didn’t seem very good.” After hearing the old lady’s words, Li Zhan thought of the scene where he and Qian Niang parted on bad terms last time.

A hint of displeasure flashed across his face, and even his voice carried a trace of hesitation.

"You probably didn't give us a friendly look last time you went."

"With that sour face, things will definitely get complicated," the old lady said, looking at Li Zhan's unpleasant expression. A knowing glint flashed in her eyes.

I bet she had the same expression when I went to see Qianniang last time.

"Mother," Li Zhan called out with displeasure after hearing the old lady's words. His voice was tinged with displeasure.

"Alright, can't I even say a few words to you?!" the old lady said with a look of annoyance.
