Chapter 20 The Era of the Brother-Supporting Demon

"Isn't this Guoqing's wife? Are you going to town?"

Along the way, some curious aunties asked them questions.

"Hey, it's Aunt Liu!"

Are you going to do laundry?

"Aunt Liu, you're really capable!"

"I see your house is the cleanest in the village. These clothes weren't even that dirty, so you just washed them!"

Lin Xue greeted her with a smile, praising Aunt Liu, who had asked the question, to the point of exhaustion.

"Well, I'm only so-so! I can't compare to how fast you young people are!"

Aunt Liu was very happy to be praised.

"That's not how it works. We young people don't have your experience in managing our lives. We stumble and fall along the way, so we have to learn from you older women how to keep our homes as beautiful as flowers!"

There was a stretch of road leading to the river in front of the village, and we walked together with Aunt Liu.

Since they had run into each other, Lin Xue didn't mind chatting with the other person for a bit.

A beautiful sedan chair, carried by people!

She knew how to chat that day, how to make the other person want to talk, how to bring up topics appropriately, how to make the person feel curious and satisfied!

"Guoqing's family, I didn't expect you to be so eloquent. We were all too embarrassed to approach you because you never really talked to the villagers before!"

Aunt Liu carried a large basin of clothes and walked forward, feeling that she had had a good chat with Lin Xue.

It's clear she's popular; otherwise, why would Guoqing's family ignore everyone else but get along so well with her?

"Hey, Auntie, you know what kind of family I have. I'm always starving, how can I have the energy to talk and chat!"

Lin Xue sighed, seemingly feeling very sad about mentioning her family.

"Everyone in our village knows about your family situation. I even heard your mother-in-law say that you've changed for the better, but the other women in the village don't believe it!"

"Now that I look at you, you look much more energetic than before."

"Listen to my advice, your family is no good. Since they've cut ties with you, don't treat them like family anymore!"

They're all from the same village, so almost everyone in the village knows what each family has.

So Lin Xue's family's little troubles didn't escape the eyes of the aunties and grandmas in the village.

After all, Lin Xue is now a member of their village, and these aunties and older women hope that Lin Xue can stand up for herself and stop being bullied by the Lin family of Shanglin Village.

"I didn't know about severing ties with relatives back then, Aunt Liu, don't worry, I won't make that mistake again!"

"But I still feel uneasy. Without my family interfering, I've had a few days of peace."

"But I know my own family members better than anyone. I'm afraid they'll come after me again someday. Oh, Aunt Liu, I'm so worried!"

Lin Xue put on a helpless expression, perfectly conveying her fear and despair about the future.

"Don't be afraid, Guoqing's family. Your parents-in-law are here to support you."

"Besides, if the Lin family dares to come again, we aunties and grandmas in our village won't just stand by and watch you suffer."

"Just say the word, and we'll definitely stand up for you. We'll make sure that guy surnamed Lin doesn't bully people in our Qingliu Brigade!"

To comfort Lin Xue, Aunt Liu even used one of her hands, which was holding a large basin, to gently pat Lin Xue's arm.

This startled Lin Xue quite a bit. If she hadn't been able to hold on to it with one hand, it wouldn't have been a problem if the basin of clothes had fallen to the ground, but she was afraid that the basin itself would have broken.

These days, with resources scarce, everything is good!

Lin Xue relaxed only after seeing Aunt Liu put her hand back in its original position.

"With those words from the old lady, I feel much more at ease."

"The laundry area is just ahead. I have to go to town, so I won't chat with Aunt Liu for now. We can have a proper chat another time!"

Seeing that Aunt Liu had arrived at her destination, Lin Xue stopped bothering her.

Anyway, she had already achieved her goal. In this era, villagers were very protective of their own and had a strong xenophobic mentality.

She would occasionally plant seeds of trouble in the village, so that if the Lin family dared to cause her any more trouble, she would make sure that the whole family would suffer.

"Alright, let's talk again next time. Be careful walking around town, and don't come back too late!"

Aunt Liu carried the basin of clothes toward the river, while constantly giving instructions.

"Hey, I know!"

After parting ways with Aunt Liu, Lin Xue once again embarked on her journey to the town.

Because their village is not far from the town, only about a 30-minute drive away.

Therefore, there are no oxcarts in the village that go to the town; the only way to get to the town is on foot.

At that moment, Lin Xue thought that it would be great if she had a bicycle, then it would be much more convenient for her to come and go.

Lin Xue didn't encounter any acquaintances along the way and soon arrived in town.

There weren't as many people on the streets as Lin Xue had imagined; she guessed that everyone was either at work or at school by now.

There were only two places with a relatively large number of people.

One was a supply and marketing cooperative, and the other was a state-run restaurant.

The entrance to the supply and marketing cooperative was crowded with people who had come early to buy things.

Looking at the spectacular scene before her, Lin Xue guessed that even on a normal day, there would probably be quite a few people at this supply and marketing cooperative.

Another place was the state-run restaurant. It was breakfast time, and although it wasn't as packed as it would be in later years, there were still quite a few people.

Lin Xue had money and tickets on her, so she didn't feel bad about going in.
