"Mom, you've picked such a big basket of mushrooms!"
"Our mother is so capable, much better than me!"
Half an hour later, Lin Xue returned to Grandma Gu's side carrying two baskets.
"Oh my, third son's wife, did you just weave these two little baskets? Look how skillful you are! These little baskets are even better than your father's!"
When Grandma Gu heard Lin Xue's voice, she looked up and saw Lin Xue carrying two small rattan baskets that looked like they had just been woven.
This shattered Old Madam Gu's preconceived notions about Lin Xue. You see, the original owner of this body was unwilling to even carry a vegetable basket, let alone weave one.
"I picked a lot of wild raspberries to make jam at home, but I had nowhere to put them, so I just wove two baskets!"
"Don't worry, Mom. I just don't want to do it sometimes. Actually, I do have some good points!"
Lin Xue smiled and handed the basket of wild raspberries to the old lady to see. The little red fruits, each about the size of a little finger, were indeed quite delightful.
"Third son's wife, you can even make jam? By the way, what is jam? Is it tasty?"
Grandma Gu had never seen much jam, but she was good at making Northeastern soybean paste.
"It's a jam made from fruit. It's sweet and sour, and it goes perfectly with cornbread!"
"Of course, a spoonful of jam mixed with water tastes pretty good too!"
Lin Xue put the basket aside and saw that the bamboo basket had been separated by branches by Grandma Gu.
She placed the pheasants and rabbits at the bottom, then added support, some grass, and a lot of mushrooms on top.
"Mom, can you carry all of these?"
Lin Xue tested the weight of the basket and found it wasn't heavy, but it might be a bit strenuous for Grandma Gu, given her advanced age and the long distance she had to walk.
"Don't worry, Mom can carry this weight!"
After the old lady finished speaking, she prepared to start reciting it.
"Forget it, I'll carry this basket. You carry these two baskets of wild raspberries, they're not heavy!"
Lin Xue snatched the basket from the back, carried it on her back, and then carried the large basket of mushrooms on her arm.
"Oh my god, what are we doing here today? Picking so much is exhausting!"
Lin Xue carried a light basket on her back, muttering to herself.
"Third son's wife, quickly put down the basket, let your mother carry it for you, you can't carry it!"
When Grandma Gu saw that her lazy daughter-in-law had become diligent today, she figured it was because she was worried about her getting old.
Looking at it this way, although her third daughter-in-law was a bit lazy at home, she still took good care of this old lady outside.
Grandma Gu suddenly felt a little depressed, and her eyes reddened.
"Mom, I've already carried this basket on my back. Let's hurry home. If I can't carry it anymore halfway, you can take over!"
After Lin Xue finished speaking, she started walking forward. They had walked quite a distance today, and they estimated that they would get home close to noon.
On a mountain path, an elderly woman and a young woman walked and chatted.
The young man would occasionally pick a couple of wildflowers from the roadside and tuck them into his own hair or the hair of an older woman, eliciting a series of laughs.
After this incident, the relationship between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law seemed to have undergone a subtle change, and they were no longer as indifferent as before.
Back home, Lin Xue poured a basin of water and went inside to wash herself before coming out.
At this time, Grandma Gu called all the children in the family to the yard to help pick mushrooms.
Lin Xue glanced at it and saw that although the oldest child in the family was only seven or eight years old, the mushrooms were all cleaned up perfectly.
Lin Xue didn't like doing these kinds of chores anyway, so she just took two baskets of thorns and soaked them in the kitchen.
She took out a small bowl, divided some of the contents, and placed it on the kitchen table.
Without her permission, none of the children dared to touch the thorny bulbs in the basket.
Even Lin Xue's own two children didn't dare to eat a single one.
Although the Gu family was just an ordinary farming family in Gujia Village, their upbringing truly impressed Lin Xue.
"Gu Fang, take this bowl of prickly pear soup outside and share it with your older brothers and sisters!"
Lin Xue called out to her little girl who was picking mushrooms and handed her the bowl of wild peas that had been divided up.
"Great, Mom! These little fruits are so red, we've been wanting to try them for ages!"
Following Lin Xue's instructions, Gu Fang carefully carried a large bowl of prickly pear berries into the courtyard.
None of the children fought or grabbed; they shared the food one by one.
Seeing how harmonious the children were, Lin Xue felt that teaching them to read and write in a couple of days shouldn't be too difficult.
Seeing this, Lin Xue stopped paying attention to the children and focused on making jam. She even called over the eldest child, Gu Yan, to help her tend the fire.
When making the jam, Lin Xue added a lot of sugar, which made Gu Yan feel sorry for her.
Unfortunately, she didn't dare to interfere much in her third aunt's affairs, so she could only silently tend the fire.
After the jam was almost finished making, Lin Xue returned to her room and took out several unmarked glass jars from her spatial storage.
Then the jam was poured into glass jars, with only a small bowl left outside. In the end, only about ten jars of jam were made from the two baskets of fruit.
Lin Xue's glass bottles are all small, the kind that can be held in one hand.
After Lin Xue left the kitchen, Grandma Gu went into the kitchen to clean up the mess and prepare lunch.
"Mom, put the lid back on the jam on the table after it's cooled down, and then put it in your room!"
