Lin Xueting felt that it was about time, so she flipped over and jumped down from the other side.
Then, after a few quick movements, they entered one of the buildings.
When she heard firsthand how the survivors, who were being protected, were secretly gossiping about the adorable little soldiers.
Listening to their baseless insults and ungrateful slander, Lin Xue suddenly felt sorry for those young team members.
You people eat and drink at other people's expense, yet you still curse them behind their backs and don't respect them openly. If you really break their hearts, how are you going to live?
Lin Xue could only say that although human nature is dark, this group of people are corrupt to the core, and this is no longer a matter of whether they are human or not!
There are probably more than 100 survivors left in this community. Apart from the more than 30 young soldiers, there are also more than 70 ordinary people.
Among these 70-plus people are businessmen, farmers, workers, and white-collar workers.
The proportion of elderly people and children is very small; the majority are young and middle-aged men and women.
However, these able-bodied men and women did not think of helping the team members outside. Instead, they chose to stay at home and live off the blood and bones of the young soldiers.
They lacked the courage to face the zombies outside, yet they continued to complain about the squad's inaction.
They felt that the food they brought back was too little, that they were too slow in killing zombies, and that they had failed to protect themselves, which led to their predicament of being surrounded by zombies.
These people would occasionally stroll over the wall, causing frequent riots among the zombies outside.
Once discovered by the team members, they will say they want to go out to find supplies.
But where the team members couldn't see, they simply took a walk and then went home to sleep.
This practice of repeatedly teetering on the edge of life and death gives them immense satisfaction.
"These useless greenhorns should be given more tasks to do. They want to rest even when they can't find food?"
"I've been starving for days, how can they rest?"
Instead of going out to find more food, they just loiter around the entrance of the neighborhood every day. Who knows how much food they're hoarding?
"Pah! If I'm not full, dream on if you want to rest!"
"A bunch of scoundrels who only care about themselves and not others' lives. Don't even think about resting if you don't go out!"
Sure enough, another woman in her forties trotted up to the city wall, pouted and muttered something for a while before heading back.
Although not everyone in the neighborhood is malicious, most people are like that.
There was another group of people who, while not involved in these matters, chose to turn a blind eye when their teammates were risking their lives.
They chose to remain silent while the other survivors caused trouble for the team.
When food was being distributed, they rushed to the front just like everyone else, jostling and scrambling for the supplies.
After spending half a day here, Lin Xue truly witnessed the ugliness of human nature.
It's never the last straw that breaks the camel's back. Don't these people know the importance of the team?
No, they know!
They enjoy the thrill of trampling on others to prove that they are still alive.
"Captain, we only have two packs of bread and a bottle of mineral water left!"
"If we don't go looking for supplies tomorrow, we'll run out of food!"
At night, the team members stayed in that small house, the closest house to the gate.
"But the zombies outside are so densely packed that it's very difficult for us to break through now!"
The tall, thin team member's eyes were a little red. They had assembled the water storage device, and there was still so much water inside, but these survivors who claimed to be civilians had monopolized the water source and refused to share a single drop with them.
"Are we just going to wait to die here if we don't break through?"
"I'd rather fight to the death against zombies than starve or die of thirst!"
The bearded man angrily kicked over the small wooden stool at his feet. He was so damn frustrated!
"You want to get out?"
Just then, a clear, cold voice rang in everyone's ears.
"who?"
Upon hearing the unfamiliar voice, the team members immediately tensed up, stood up, and assumed a state of alert.
"Me!"
"Don't be nervous, I'm just a weak little girl who can't take care of herself!"
Lin Xue's voice rang out again, and this time the team members finally heard the direction from which the voice came.
Everyone immediately opened the door and rushed out, where they saw a slightly thin woman sitting on the open ground outside the house.
"Who are you? We don't think we've seen you in the neighborhood before?"
The bearded man couldn't help but speak first.
"Don't be nervous, I'm just passing through!"
"I didn't expect there to be a survivor base here. I originally wanted to come in and take a look, but who knew things were so complicated. I was just about to leave when I overheard your conversation!"
As Lin Xue spoke, she took a bottle of cola out of her handbag.
"Sizzle~"
The moment the bottle was unscrewed, that familiar sound rang out, causing the team members in front of them to subconsciously swallow.
They haven't had cola in ages!
Even in peacetime, they didn't drink much.
Now that we've reached the end of the world, we yearn even more for things that bring us joy.
"Gulp, gulp!"
Lin Xue took two sips of cola, calmly screwed the cap back on, and placed it on the ground beside her feet.
"I'm not saying this to be mean, but the world has changed. Instead of wasting time here, it's better to go out and see the world, and help those who truly need help!"
"Those guys, even if you help them, they won't be grateful. After you all die from exhaustion and starvation, won't they still have to face those zombies outside?"
"Then why not let go sooner and let them face reality sooner, so you can free up your hands to save those who truly know how to be grateful!"
As Lin Xue spoke, she put her hand back into her handbag.
Then she took out a piece of torn bread.
"Tear..."
The sound of tearing open the packaging was wonderful, followed by the casual chewing sounds.
"Captain, what this girl said makes sense!"
"We don't know how many people are trapped outside. Instead of wasting time here, we should go out and rescue those who need us more!"
Although the bearded man didn't know how Lin Xue had gotten there, he was also skeptical of what she said.
But that didn't stop him from taking the time to whisper in his captain's ear that the captain was just too upright, which was why he was trapped here by that group of ungrateful wretches.
