Chapter 543 The Weak Mother of the 1980s (Part 3)

"Host, your mother, your eldest brother, and your sister-in-law have arrived!"

629 had been observing the situation in the yard. Upon hearing the commotion, it immediately ran to Lin Xue's side and told its host what it had discovered.

"Call!"

Lin Xue pretended to be extremely weak, her meaning was very clear: even if 629 was to scream, it had to sound miserable and desperate.

"Leave it to me! This system isn't just for watching those Qiong Yao dramas for nothing!"

After saying that, 629 ran to the entrance of the cellar, then adjusted his voice and began to make an extremely faint sound.

The sound was extremely faint and barely audible, yet it reached the ears of Han's mother and elder brother clearly.

"Mother, why do I hear a woman crying for help?"

Seeing Zhang Haisheng's nonchalant attitude, Brother Han thought he had misheard. He put his hand to his mother's ear and whispered what he had heard to her.

"You heard that too? I thought I must have misheard!"

In fact, Han's mother also heard the extremely faint cry for help, but the sound was so quiet that she thought there was something wrong with her ears.

This is my own daughter and son-in-law's house, why would someone ask for help?

"Son-in-law, your elder brother and I brought some food with us today. Why don't you take it inside and cook us something to eat?"

"We're so tired from walking all this way. If we don't eat something, we probably won't have the strength to walk back!"

After all, Han's mother was quite old, so even if she noticed something unusual, she wouldn't show it. Instead, she would try to get her son-in-law away so that she could properly investigate with her eldest son.

"Mother-in-law, how can we expect you to provide food when we come to visit?"

"Don't worry, my son-in-law's family may not have much else, but they certainly have enough food to eat!"

Zhang Haisheng was an extremely good man; he didn't take the bag of grain that Han's mother handed him, but instead turned around and went to the kitchen.

Han's mother gave her eldest daughter-in-law a wink, and the eldest daughter-in-law followed her to the kitchen to help.

After Zhang Haisheng left, Han's mother took Han's older brother and led them to the place where the sound had come from.

They knew this place; it was Old Zhang's cellar. Almost every household in the village had such a cellar, used to store grain and cabbage.

"Mother, Mother, please come and save your daughter!"

"Big brother, big brother, I'm here! Please come and save me!"

The closer they got, the fainter the cries for help became, but Han's mother and older brother both recognized them as their daughter and younger sister's voices.

"Boss, go find something to pry open this cellar for me. I want to see what Zhang Haisheng has done to my daughter."

Even now, Han's mother still can't believe that her daughter was locked in the cellar by her son-in-law.

She only hoped that it was all a misunderstanding. If anything really happened to her daughter, she would definitely tear the Zhang family apart.

Han's mother gave birth to several sons, but only four survived. She also only had two daughters; the others died young due to extreme poverty.

She didn't have any preference for sons over daughters; she loved her son and daughter equally.

Especially this youngest daughter, because she was born late in life, is even more pampered and spoiled.

When it came to her youngest daughter's marriage, Han's mother went to great lengths, carefully selecting the Zhang family, which had a good family background.

If my daughter really suffered any injustice at the Zhang family's house, I would rather take my daughter and granddaughter back to raise them than let my precious child be bullied here.

Compared to the original owner's weakness and fear of trouble, her mother was quite assertive.

Otherwise, Han's mother wouldn't have been able to support the whole family. In the old Han family, even Han's father had to listen to Han's mother.

The whole family, from the oldest to the youngest, took her words to heart, because Han's mother was fair and just, and everyone in the family respected her.

This also fostered Han's mother's domineering personality.

Hearing the extremely weak voice coming from the cellar, Han's mother was filled with worry.

My daughter, please be alright!

Even now, Han's mother doesn't think too badly of the Zhang family. At most, she thinks they just mistakenly locked her daughter in the cellar and that she's so weak because she went hungry for a few meals.

But when the cellar door opened and Brother Han went inside, he found his sister with her limbs and neck bound by iron chains.

He collapsed to the ground, covered in blood, instinctively calling out their names.

"You son of a bitch, Zhang Haisheng! How dare you humiliate my sister like this!"

Brother Han didn't know what to do for a moment. Seeing an iron shovel leaning against the wall, he grabbed it and jumped out of the cellar, ready to fight Zhang Haisheng to the death.

"Son, what happened?"

Where is your sister?

Seeing her son so angry, Han's mother's heart suddenly skipped a beat.

Her eldest son is known for being honest, kind, and good-tempered. Why did he suddenly lose his temper today?

"Mother, husband! What's wrong with you?"

Han's eldest sister-in-law, who had been helping Zhang Haisheng cook in the kitchen, suddenly felt at a loss when she saw the murderous look in her husband's eyes.

Since she married into the Han family and became the eldest son's wife, she has never seen her husband lose his temper.

He must have gotten so angry that something serious must have happened.

"Zhang Haisheng, you bastard, you owe me my sister's life!"

Brother Han ignored his wife and slapped Zhang Haisheng on the forehead with a shovel.

"Calm down, sir! If you kill someone, you'll go to jail!"
