Is Cuihua home?
Just as Lin Xue put a piece of candy into Lin Cuihua's mouth, she heard someone asking a question from the doorway.
"Aunt Li, my mother is inside, come in quickly!"
Lin Xue, with her sharp eyes, recognized the woman as the same old lady who had just cheered her on.
Aunt Li was holding a bowl with four small pieces of chive dumplings inside.
"Xiaoxue, quickly grab a bowl to take this!"
"My family made some chive pancakes today, I'll bring you two to try!"
Aunt Li walked into the kitchen as if she knew the place well, clearly familiar with her home.
Although she told Lin Xue to get the bowl, she was actually faster than Lin Xue.
With practiced ease, he took an empty bowl from the cupboard and put four chive dumplings inside.
"Look at you! With so many people in your family, why don't you just keep the food for yourselves? Why go to all the trouble of sending it over!"
Although Lin Cuihua complained, her face was full of smiles, and anyone who saw her could tell that she was just being polite.
Why are you being so polite with me?
"Besides, I'm not giving it to you, I'm giving it to Xiaoxue!"
Although that's what they said, the chive boxes were indeed meant for Lin Cuihua.
As for Minor Snow, you can only smell it.
This remains within Aunt Li's original understanding.
When she turned to look at Lin Xue, she found that the girl was eating a chive pancake with great relish.
Ouch!
"Cuihua, is Xiaoxue all better now?"
"Didn't you say before that you couldn't swallow dry food?"
Startled by Aunt Li's sudden outburst, Lin Xue stopped eating her leek pancake and stared at her with wide eyes.
"Huh?"
"Xiaoxue, you can eat yours. If you like it, I'll give you a few more. Being able to eat is a blessing, a good thing!"
Hearing what Aunt Li said, Lin Xue continued eating her chive dumplings.
"Auntie, you don't know, Xiaoxue's appetite has been much better these past two days. Yesterday at noon she ate a bowl of wontons, and in the evening she even ate a bowl of noodles!"
"She even showed off a bowl of dumpling soup this morning, looks like her health is improving."
"Seeing Xiaoxue getting better, you know how I feel as a mother—I'm so happy!"
It would have been fine if there was no one to talk to, but now that there's Aunt Li to chat with, Lin Cuihua has started talking non-stop.
"Isn't it a good thing that the child is better? Why are you still bringing up cat pee!"
"If I cry again and my little grandson sees me, he'll go and beat up Wang Dajiao's cat next door!"
When Aunt Li saw Lin Cuihua shed tears, she knew it was because the mother was happy.
But constantly shedding tears isn't a good thing either.
No matter how strong a woman is outside, she becomes very emotional when she gets home and faces issues related to her children.
She understood Lin Cuihua's feelings and stepped forward to pat her on the back.
"Mom, don't forget to add salt to my fish soup. It's been simmering for a while now, isn't it ready yet?"
Lin Xue offered no words of comfort; her mind was solely focused on her fish soup.
Of course, this is only on the surface!
Although Lin Xue said that, as soon as she finished speaking, Lin Cuihua immediately stopped crying and began to check the fish soup in the pot.
"That's about it. Just add some chopped green onions and it'll be ready to drink!"
Lin Cuihua added some salt to the fish soup, picked up the bowl next to her, scooped in half a fish, and added some more soup!
"Oh dear, Cuihua, what are you doing? Why are you ladling fish soup into my bowl?"
She came to deliver leek dumplings to the Lin family, so why is she taking a bowl back with her?
"We've been best friends for ages, so it's perfectly normal for me to take a bite of your food and you to take a bite of mine!"
"Alright, our family is about to eat too. You'd better take the fish soup home quickly!"
Although the two are quite different in age, they have an excellent relationship.
This can be seen from this ordinary conversation.
"Alright, alright, why not take it? I'll just take it!"
Seeing that Lin Cuihua was starting to chase people away, Aunt Li didn't hesitate and left with her bowl of fish soup.
After Aunt Li left, Lin Xue helped by getting the bowls and chopsticks.
The mother and daughter quickly sat down at the kang table and began to eat.
"Mom, Aunt Li's chive pancakes are a bit salty!"
Sitting at the dining table, Lin Xue ladled herself a bowl of fish soup to moisten her throat.
"It's salty, but you're still eating it so deliciously?"
Lin Cuihua was speechless. Her daughter had finally managed to eat dry food, but she still complained that other people's food was too salty.
"Mom, next time you cook for me, remember not to put in so much salt!"
"But don't make it bland, it won't taste good if it's bland!"
Lin Xue made her demands very pickily, and in the blink of an eye, she poured half a bowl of fish soup down her throat.
Only then did he pick up the rice bowl next to him and start shoveling rice into his mouth.
A sip of fish soup, a mouthful of rice.
Then, another bite of the tenderly stir-fried pork liver with vinegar.
"You're so demanding! If you want it, I'll make it for you tomorrow!"
Lin Cuihua also picked up a chive pancake and took a bite.
It's really quite salty!
Her old neighbor has a heavy hand and tends to make things salty.
When they were poor, this old neighbor was reluctant to put salt in his cooking. But since life got better, he's been putting in salt much more heavily.
"We just had chive pancakes today, how about we wait a couple of days before making more?"
Although I really like eating chive boxes, I just had one today and don't really want to eat it right now.
"Okay, okay, I'll do whatever you say!"
"Just tell me what you want to eat, and I'll make it for you!"
The two chatted and laughed, and quickly finished their lunch.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Lin Cuihua didn't go to the fields today, but instead watched TV with Lin Xue.
