"Mimi, you're our cat from now on!"
"Shall I give you a name?"
"How about we call her Xiao Jiu?"
I took the kitten home and fed it some food.
Lin Xue sat in the yard, basking in the sun, holding her kitten.
The warm kitten sitting on her lap made Lin Xue feel less cold.
When Lin Cuihua returned, she saw her daughter sitting in the yard, leaning against the wall, fast asleep.
She was holding a small tabby cat in her arms, and at her feet was a chipped bowl containing some food.
"This girl, she's sleepy but doesn't even go inside to sleep!"
"This kitten must belong to Aunt Wang, right? It's so cute, no wonder Xiaoxue likes it!"
Put the repaired bicycle in the corner, and then put the things you bought inside the house.
Hearing footsteps, Lin Xue woke up from her sleep.
"Mom, you're back!"
"Is the bicycle fixed yet?"
Moving her stiff neck and feeling the warmth in her arms, Lin Xue looked down and saw Xiao Jiu sleeping soundly.
"It's fixed!"
"Did you get this cat from Aunt Wang's house?"
After putting everything away, Lin Cuihua came to Lin Xue's side.
Looking at the little one sleeping soundly in her arms.
"Yes, isn't it beautiful?"
Lin Xue proudly stroked the kitten's body, but the kitten only twitched its ears and then remained still.
"The little guy can sleep quite a lot!"
"Alright, you can play by yourself, I'll go make you some food!"
Seeing her daughter happy, Lin Cuihua did not object to keeping a cat at home.
I ran into the village foreman when I went to town earlier. He said I might have to go out to work tomorrow.
It's boring for my daughter to be home alone, so having a cat to keep her company would help her pass the time.
Thinking this way, Lin Cuihua's uneasy heart calmed down a bit.
Last time, my daughter fell into a deep sleep and didn't wake up until I came back in time.
That matter had been weighing on her mind, and it would resurface every time she went out.
It made her feel uneasy all the time, and her heart was constantly in suspense.
After lunch.
Lin Cuihua told Lin Xue that she would be going to work with the foreman tomorrow.
Lin Cuihua works as a cook at the construction site, plus some odd jobs, and can earn 15 yuan a day.
A skilled bricklayer can earn 25 to 30 yuan. Although she earns less than others, she does easy work.
Lin Cuihua was very satisfied.
At least enough to support myself and my daughter.
"Then you must be careful when you're out and about, and don't go to dangerous places!"
"Don't stand under the base of the wall when building a house, to prevent bricks from falling down."
"Also, if you're tired, take a break and don't overwork yourself!"
Lin Xue was worried about her mother going out to work as a laborer.
But her current abilities are limited, and she can't change anything.
Even though there are plenty of supplies in the space that she can take out and use, she can't tell her mother about them.
There can't be no one in the family who can earn money. I need to find a way to get my mom a stable job in the future.
With her current health, she'll never be able to go out and earn money in her lifetime.
If you can only survive by relying on the advanced ideas in your mind, you still have to go out and see the world.
I have to go to work tomorrow and won't be able to come back by noon.
Originally, Lin Cuihua wanted to ask Aunt Li next door to help her bring a meal for her daughter.
But Lin Xue rejected him.
"Mom, make a lot this morning, and I'll just steam it a bit more at lunchtime!"
"This has been going on for more than just a day or two; it's not good to keep bothering others!"
To prove that he could actually start a fire and wouldn't burn down his house.
That evening, Lin Xue took over the task of tending the fire.
After confirming that her daughter could manage the fire and wouldn't cause a fire, Lin Cuihua finally agreed to let her steam rice at home.
I steamed buns and made sweet potato porridge for dinner.
I also stir-fried some tomatoes and eggs; it was quite simple.
Early the next morning.
Lin Cuihua made dumpling soup. There were still quite a few steamed buns left over from last night, which should be enough for her daughter to eat at noon.
I also stir-fried some pork for her, and made a cold dish platter before she left.
The vegetables are all pre-cut; just add some soy sauce and mix it in.
Lin Cuihua was busy all morning, but in the end she still left reluctantly.
Because the place where she was going to work was a bit far away, she traveled by the foreman's tractor.
The foreman lived on the other side of the village, a bit far from Lin Xue's house.
So she had never seen the man, nor the only tractor in the village.
However, after Lin Cuihua left, Lin Xue fed Xiao Jiu some food and poured it some water.
Then he pushed his old-fashioned bicycle out the door.
Fortunately, although the original owner was thin, he was not short.
He looks to be a little over 1.6 meters tall.
Although you can only stand on tiptoe with both feet on the ground, you don't need to get off the bike when you stop, which is much more convenient.
The original owner didn't know where the market was, but she knew that she could get there by taking the main road.
After riding for only 10 minutes, I saw a large crowd ahead, which looked quite lively.
"The market must be here!"
When we got to a crowded place, we got out of the car and pushed the cart around the market.
Her main focus was on the shops on both sides. The stalls in front mostly sold vegetables and fruits, which she didn't need to buy, as she had plenty at home.
