Chapter 655 The Farmer Scholar (Part 5)

"I'm an adult, how could I not know whether it's dangerous or not?"

"It's good that you're here. Quickly help me carry this wild boar back!"

Lin Xue was worried that the prey was too big and would frighten the Lin family, so she personally chased away the big wild boar and specifically hunted this medium-sized one.

Anyway, the wild boar is on the mountain, and she can come and get it whenever she wants.

"Second brother, how did you manage to hunt such a big wild boar?"

"Are you injured? These wild boars are very fierce. Two years ago, a hunter from the village was gored by a wild boar while going up the mountain, and he still has a limp in one leg!"

When Lin Zhongping saw what Lin Xue was carrying on her shoulder, he was almost scared out of his wits.

How come his second brother is so capable?

He used to refuse to even do farm work, so why did he suddenly decide to go hunting in the mountains today?

Even if he and his eldest brother went up the mountain, they might not be able to hunt any prey. His second brother was so lucky that he hunted a wild boar on his first trip into the mountains.

This feeling of lingering fear mixed with excitement made Lin Zhongping's mind race.

Despite all the complaints, their focus ultimately shifted to the fact that they could eat meat that night.

"It's been a long time since we've had meat at home, so I ate a chicken my mother killed the other day, and I don't know why, but I suddenly felt much stronger!"

"What do you feed your chickens? They taste great and can even boost your strength!"

"Otherwise, why do you think I dared to go up the mountain alone? I only wanted to hunt a pheasant or a rabbit or something, but I ended up running into this little wild boar that was all alone!"

"With my intelligence, if I encountered a wild boar, wouldn't I know to run away?"

After being complained about by Lin Zhongping for a long time, Lin Xue had no choice but to speak up in her defense.

She didn't want to never be able to go up the mountain again.

Although his meals at home were quite good, he could eat dry food every meal.

He could eat well himself, but he watched as the adults and children in his family drank wild vegetable porridge made from tree root powder.

Even the finest grains can feel a bit spicy in the throat.

"That seems to be true!"

"Even so, my second brother will probably get a scolding from our parents when he gets home!"

Lin Zhongping admitted that Lin Zhongyi was smart, but being smart didn't mean he wouldn't get scolded by his parents.

Thinking of this, Lin Zhongping felt a little happy. He had never seen his parents scold his second brother before.

In the past, it was always him and his eldest brother who were scolded by their parents, while his second brother was always the one watching from the sidelines.

Now that the situation has reversed, Lin Zhongping is also somewhat hopeful.

"Lin Zhongyi~"

"Zhongyi~"

The two had not been gone long when they heard their parents and elder brother calling out.

Lin Xue quickly walked a few steps to the front of the group, hoping to put their worries to rest.

"Zhongyi, why did you go up the mountain by yourself? If you want to eat meat, your mother can kill another chicken for you to enjoy. There was no need for you to risk going up the mountain by yourself!"

"You can't listen to that little brat Niu Niu. She's lucky to have food to eat, let alone the chance to eat meat!"

Grandma Lin was both angry and resentful. It was all the fault of her little brat for being so loose-lipped and insisting that he wanted to eat meat.

If anything were to happen to her second son in the mountains, she'd beat that good-for-nothing to death.

"Mom, I went up the mountain because I was craving meat, it has nothing to do with Niu Niu!"

"Besides, you can't just kill the chickens your mother raises. If I have to take an exam next time, I'll be waiting for her to kill a chicken to nourish me!"

Lin Xue rushed over to support her mother, and then repeated what she had told Lin Zhongping earlier.

Grandma Lin wondered to herself, could the chickens she raised really have such miraculous effects?

If you had known this would happen, why didn't you kill it and feed it to your second son?

Old Mrs. Lin was easily fooled by Lin Xue's few words, but Old Mr. Lin stared at his second son with a sinister look, not believing his son's story at all!

"Everyone go back first, Second Brother, come here for me."

When they arrived at the foot of the mountain, Old Man Lin sent the others back first, and then called Lin Xue aside by himself.

"Are the chickens at home really as magical as you say?"

Old Man Lin pulled Lin Xue to a corner, his heart pounding, but he didn't show it on his face and asked.

"How could that be!"

"If I didn't say that, I'd probably get lectured by my mother for ages."

Lin Xue pursed her lips; she had no intention of trying to fool the old man with that kind of talk.

"You brat!"

Upon hearing that what Lin Xue had said before was not true, Old Man Lin angrily slapped his arm.

The old farmer's slap was no light one; Lin Xue winced in pain.

"What's wrong? Did I hurt you?"

Old Man Lin regretted it as soon as he slapped him, but unfortunately, he couldn't take it back.

He rubbed his hands awkwardly, looking at his second son, unsure of what to say.

"It really hurts."

"But Father, don't blame yourself, you'll be fine in a little while!"

Lin Xue rubbed her arm vigorously a few times to let the pain subside before she started talking to Old Man Lin about other things.

"Dad, do you know why I've suddenly become so amazing?"

Lin Xue peeked around and looked to the left and right. After making sure no one was around, she spoke mysteriously to Old Man Lin.

"What?"

"Could there be another reason behind this?"

This was the first time Old Man Lin had seen his son with such an expression, and he couldn't help but lower his voice as well.

"I'm telling you, but you can't tell anyone!"

Lin Xue looked up again to make sure no one was within ten meters before lowering her voice to speak to Old Man Lin.
