Chapter 68 The Evil Mother-in-Law's Path to Redemption (Part 10)

"Alright, you're my sons, how could I possibly mistreat you?"

Lin Xue pretended not to see the tears welling up in the eyes of the three of them, forcing herself to turn her head away.

Then she saw a short, flowery tail crouching in the roadside grass.

"Get out of here!"

Amidst the moved gazes of her family, Lin Xue raised her cane.

The group was so frightened that they couldn't help but back away.

But the next second, the cane seemed to have eyes, and flew past them.

"Cluck, cluck!"

The little pheasant hiding in the grass was hit on the forehead by Lin Xue's cane.

The pheasant escaped its fatal blow when it was grazed by a tree branch.

Even this one blow made the little pheasant dizzy, and its flapping wings bent the small patch of grass.

"pheasant!"

Realizing that Lin Xue didn't intend to hit them, Li Dazhuang rushed forward, grabbed the pheasant flapping its wings, and lifted it up.

"Mom, your eyes are sharper than the big yellow dog in our village!"

Hearing this, Lin Xue knew that Li Dagui meant well, but she still felt a surge of anger.

The old lady hopped over to Li Dagui.

With a push of its two feet against the ground, it shot up very high.

A slap landed on Li Dagui's forehead.

"You worthless bastard, if you can't speak properly, then shut up. Are you comparing your mother to a dog?"

After being slapped by Lin Xue, Li Dagui realized he had spoken out of turn and dared not say another word. He slunk back to the group.

"Damn it, this thing is so tall and big, but its eyes look like decorations! Are you kidding me?"

Lin Xue, cursing, took the walking stick that Li Sangui had picked up, and dug around in the grass, revealing a nest of wild eggs.

"Mother, I was wrong!"

Li Dagui glanced at the nest of wild eggs and felt utterly unlucky.

Could it be that what his mother said was true, and that his eyes were just there to be used as decorations?

"Mom, let me pick them up!"

He Ahui was quick-witted; she immediately stepped forward and picked up the nest of wild eggs along with the grassy hut beneath them, holding them in her arms.

"Sister-in-law, put the eggs in this basket!"

Liu Taozi was no less capable than He Ahui, and quickly took out a vegetable basket from her backpack and handed it to He Ahui.

"Look at your wives, and then look at yourselves!"

Lin Xue glared at her three sons with a look of disappointment and then hobbled forward on her little feet.

She doesn't want to look at those three stupid sons at all right now.

What a waste of such a big guy.

He Ahui and Liu Taozi were overjoyed to receive Lin Xue's praise for the first time.

He glanced smugly at the three men and eagerly followed behind Lin Xue.

The three brothers exchanged glances, gave each a wry smile, and followed behind the women with resentful expressions.

"Grandma, are we having chicken again for lunch?"

Li Zhen craned her little head, desperately trying to look in Lin Xue's direction.

"Little sister, are you silly? This pheasant is obviously a female. It's such a waste to kill and eat it. We'd be better off keeping it to lay eggs!"

Li Shun stared intently at the pheasant in his father's hand.

Back when they lived in the village, besides their grandmother, the two little kids ate the most eggs in their family.

The pheasant is gone after one meal, but you can get an egg every day.

Thinking of this, Li Shun seemed to recall the taste of that egg from back then, and couldn't help but lick his lips.

"That's right, the hen still needs to lay eggs!"

"But can we eat those eggs? We don't need to save them to hatch chicks, right?"

Li Zhen pulled her little feet, which were sticking out of the basket, back in, then lay her whole body on Li Ergui's back and strained to look ahead.

“Treasure, you can’t stand up. What if you fall?”

Li Ergui stretched out his arms, desperately protecting the two sides of the basket to prevent Li Zhen from falling.

"Little sister, sit up straight quickly, it'll be hard for your second uncle to carry you like this!"

Li Shun turned around and saw his sister's actions, and immediately spoke up to stop her.

"Huh? Oh!"

"I understand, brother, I'll sit down right away!"

Hearing Li Shun's advice, Li Zhen felt a little embarrassed and quickly sat back down in the basket, sticking her legs out of the round hole again.

"arrive!"

Just as the two children behind her were chatting enthusiastically, Lin Xue waved to everyone.

She took her cane and walked to the side, pushing all the weeds aside to clear a path for herself.

"Mother, let me go first, I have a sickle!"

Seeing her mother-in-law leading the way, He Ahui immediately followed.

"Okay, be careful. Before you cut down these weeds, pat the bushes to make sure there are no snakes hiding inside!"

Lin Xue gave a word of advice out of concern before taking a half-step back.

"Mother, I know, this is called stirring up trouble!"

He Ahui took a few steps forward with the sickle, and only after making sure she wouldn't hurt Lin Xue did she start cutting the weeds in front of her.

Soon, a narrow path, large enough for one person to pass through, was cleared.

They walked a short distance and came to see a small ravine.

There is also a shallow stream in the ravine, the source of which is a small cave that emerges from the ground.

This water must be gushing out from an underground river; judging by how clear the stream is, there shouldn't be any problem.
