Chapter 93 The Evil Mother-in-Law's Path to Redemption (Part 35)

"Liu Zhi, stop the carriage!"

On the third day after leaving the village, they were almost at Quanzhou City.

Halfway there, Lin Xue smelled a strong dampness. Although the sun was still blazing outside, Lin Xue knew that it was going to rain soon.

"Madam, is it because someone in the carriage needs to relieve themselves that you've stopped the carriage at this time?"

Liu Zhi brought the carriage to a steady stop, walked to the door, and asked the person inside.

Because the carriage was full of women, Liu Zhi did not rashly lift the curtain.

"Go tell your master that it's definitely going to rain within an hour, and we need to find a place to take shelter from the rain quickly!"

Lin Xue did not get off the carriage, but lifted the curtain, peeked out, and then spoke to Liu Zhi.

"Ah, we're in the middle of nowhere right now, in the middle of nowhere. If it rains, we'll be in real trouble!"

"Please wait here, ma'am, I'll go and tell my master right away!"

Liu Zhi listened to Lin Xue's words and did not suspect anything.

Throughout the journey, Lin Xue was extremely sensitive to the smells of water sources and animals.

If she could sniff the air and say where there was water, there would definitely be water there. If she could say where there was prey, there would definitely be prey there.

Now that Lin Xue says it's going to rain soon, even though the sun is blazing now, it will definitely rain soon.

Liu Zhi's trust in Lin Xue had almost reached the point of blind faith.

“Auntie, I’ve already told my master. He said there’s a dilapidated temple about two miles ahead. Let’s hurry and we should be able to reach the temple before the rain starts!”

Liu Zhi went to the carriage, spoke to the person inside, and then sat back in the driver's seat.

The caravan started moving again, and a group of mounted guards rode ahead, probably to find the dilapidated temple that Master Liu had mentioned.

After all, it had been a long time since we'd been here, and no one could be sure of the condition of the dilapidated temple.

Now, everyone in the group is on horseback.

The others took turns riding in the empty carriage.

Lin Xue and her companions tied their little donkeys to the back of the last carriage.

The team was moving much faster than before, and soon they ran into the scouts ahead.

"Master, there are still two intact rooms in the dilapidated temple ahead; the rest have all collapsed!"

"If we're just taking shelter from the rain, it should be fine!"

Even though Lin Xue and the others were sitting in the carriage behind, they could still hear the conversations from the front.

It's also possible that the guards did this on purpose to put their minds at ease!

The convoy had been traveling for a while when it gradually slowed down.

Sensing the increasing dampness in the air, Lin Xue peered outside.

Then we saw their convoy had turned off the main road and entered a side road, where a temple stood ahead.

This temple must have been abandoned for a long time; most of the buildings have collapsed, except for the one that houses the large Buddha statue for worship, which remains intact.

There is also a side room connected to this main hall.

The temple was built on a gentle slope of a mountain, so no matter how heavy the rain was, it wouldn't affect the interior.

Seeing this, Lin Xue breathed a sigh of relief.

They got off the carriage only after it had come to a steady stop in front of the temple.

The two daughters-in-law, carrying their belongings, followed Lin Xue into the main hall.

The child ran off to find her third uncle. These three men have been plotting something lately, always acting mysteriously.

"Ah Xue, how long do you think it will last before it rains?"

Liu Muchen followed closely behind, with a guard behind him carrying a box.

"We should have about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn. We need to use this time to gather as much firewood as possible!"

Lin Xue looked around the main hall. The hall was very spacious, and apart from a large Buddha statue in the center and an offering table in front of it, there was nothing else inside.

"I've already told them to gather firewood. Ah Xue, you rest for a while. I'll have someone drive the carriage down to the corridor!"

Liu Muchen exchanged a few words with Lin Xue and then left.

The guard placed Liu Muchen's belongings on the offering table and then left.

"Ah Hui, Peach! They're busy with things outside, let's tidy up this main hall!"

No matter how long they're going to stay here, they'll need to tidy up eventually.

Otherwise, with straw scattered all over the ground, and a few lumps of dried manure around the corner, there was nothing else.

How can anyone feel comfortable in such an environment?

When Lin Xue saw those lumps, she felt extremely disgusted.

"Mom, leave this to us!"

"Why don't you find a place to sit down and rest?"

With her two daughters-in-law here, why would the mother-in-law need to lift a finger?

He Ahui, unusually assertive, snatched the broom from the old lady's hand.

Liu Taozi found a clean spot, placed a small stool there, and let Lin Xue sit down.

"Well, since you two don't need my help, I'm going out for some fresh air!"

"This room is too dusty, I don't want to stay here!"

Lin Xue, who had been deprived of her right to work again, glanced sullenly at her two daughters-in-law who were working hard, and sighed helplessly.

After saying that, Lin Xue stood up and walked towards the door.

"Mother, don't go too far, just wander around the vicinity of this temple!"

He Ahui added a slightly worried note, saying that her mother-in-law was good in every way, except that she liked to travel.
