At night, Lin Xue heard a "chirping" sound outside. Although it was raining heavily, the sound was different from the sound of rain.
It certainly couldn't be the sound of wind blowing through leaves.
It sounded more like the gnawing and rummaging of grain by mice.
Wake up!
She carefully climbed up between her two daughters-in-law, walked to Liu Zhi's side, and gently patted his arm.
Liu Zhi was on the first night watch, and he was sitting in front of the campfire, lost in thought.
"Auntie, what's wrong?"
Snapping out of his thoughts, Liu Zhi glanced at Lin Xue and asked in confusion.
"I think I heard some strange noises outside. Let's go check it out!"
Lin Xue whispered in Liu Zhi's ear, then lifted her leg and walked towards the door.
The doors to the main hall had long since disappeared, and now stood empty, facing them.
Outside, the wind and rain continued, with flashes of lightning occasionally streaking across the sky, illuminating the earth for a fleeting moment.
"Auntie, I didn't hear anything at all!"
Liu strained his ears to try and distinguish the surrounding noises, but he couldn't hear anything unusual.
"Shh!"
Lin Xue made a shushing gesture to him, then tiptoed to the carriage.
As Lin Xue and her companion approached, the horses initially became restless, but they quickly calmed down, perhaps because they sensed the presence of the two.
The two walked past several fine horses and arrived at the carriage.
"Crackling sounds..."
A sound like a mouse digging a hole came from inside, and this time even Liu Zhi could hear it clearly.
"Wait!"
Liu Zhi pulled Lin Xue, who was trying to peek into the carriage, behind him, mouthed "wait" to her, and then took two steps forward to the carriage door.
Through the gap in the curtain, and by the light of a flash of lightning on the horizon, Liu Zhi could see a dark figure inside rummaging through their belongings.
With lightning speed, he reached out and grabbed the dark figure inside, pulling it outwards.
"ah!"
It wasn't until they pulled the dark figure out of the carriage that the two realized it was a short man!

He was only about the height of Liu Shun, but Lin Xue and Liu Zhi could tell at a glance that he was not a child.

A word came to mind for both of them.
"Ahhhh!"
When the little dwarf saw that he had been captured, he immediately opened his mouth full of sharp teeth and bit Liu Zhi's arm.
"Shut up!"
Lin Xue reacted quickly and pressed her hand against the other person's forehead.
As another bolt of lightning streaked across the sky, both of them got a clear look at the face of the guy in Liu Zhi's hand.
He was less than a meter tall, with a head full of sparse green hair, red eyes, and deep-set eye sockets.
The nose is very flat, somewhat like a pig's or cow's nose, and the nostrils are very large and obvious!
Its mouth is very big; when it's open, it almost stretches to the back of its ears.
Teeth are not flat like human teeth, but sharp like animal teeth!
Using the flash of lightning, the two men stared at the gleaming, sharp fangs.
A sudden tightness gripped my heart. What on earth is this thing?
Could he really be the legendary dwarf?
"Aaaaaaah!"
The dwarf screamed again, and his two short arms slashed toward Liu Zhi's chest.
"Liu Zhi, be careful, throw it away quickly!"
Not only was Lin Xue startled, but even Liu Zhi subconsciously threw the monster in his hand away.
The little dwarf was left far away in the corner, but the next second he scrambled to his feet and ran into the depths of the ruins.
