She soothed him, "It's okay."
Jiang Ling knew that Zhou Jing'an was worried about Zhou Ning'an, and therefore, worried about her.
Her words "It's okay" meant to tell him that the Queen was okay and she was okay too.
Zhou Jing'an lowered his eyes to look at her, put his arms around her body, buried her cheek in his neck, and couldn't help but look at her lower abdomen, raising his hand to gently stroke it.
"Ling'er, I'm a little scared."
The voice was soft, brushing past her ear.
Jiang Ling chuckled and teased him deliberately, "Why, do you want to regret it?"
She raised her hand and touched his face. "It's a pity there's no way to regret it now. She/he has been together for four months."
Zhou Jing'an frowned and said nothing.
Jiang Ling raised her hand to smooth his furrowed brow and whispered, "He/she can hear us talking now. Don't say you regret it in the future. Otherwise, if the child gets angry with you, I won't care."
Zhou Jingan was amused by her. He nuzzled her neck and murmured softly, "If she's angry, there's nothing I can do. I won't coax her/him like I would you."
After saying that, the corners of his mouth drooped again.
The voice was filled with anxiety, "Ling'er..."
"Okay, okay." Jiang Ling patted him, "I want to eat fish. How about we have fish tonight?"
Zhou Jingan knew that she was trying to divert his attention and stop him from dwelling on it, so he nodded in agreement, "Okay, let's go back and ask the kitchen to make it for you."
But after they finished washing up and lay down to sleep, he still felt like a huge stone was weighing on his heart and could not relax.
Through the faint moonlight, Zhou Jing'an looked at Jiang Ling's sleeping face. His uneasy mood grew, and his eyes revealed heartache, worry and panic.
It’s so dangerous. Childbirth is so dangerous for women.
He listened to his sister's voice today. Although he was not close and could hear it intermittently, he could still feel her hard work.
When he caught a glimpse of Jiang Ling's lower abdomen, he couldn't help but hold her hand.
He had no other thoughts, he just wanted to feel that she was still by his side.
Zhou Jing'an quietly leaned over, kissed Jiang Ling lightly on the side of her face, rubbed her face with the tip of his nose, and hugged her carefully.
The next day, Zhou Jing'an left the house before dawn.
He mounted his horse and rode through the darkness before sunrise. The lingering coolness washed over him, and he headed straight for Yongning Temple on the outskirts of Beijing.
I heard that this place is specially for people to pray for marriage and children, and it is very effective.
But Zhou Jing'an didn't do that.
In fact, he has never prayed or burned incense. In his opinion, being strong is the best way to protect himself, his family and the people.
Therefore, he only went there twice with Xia Zhixian, or accompanied his family.
This was the first time he came to the temple by himself.
As the morning dew fell, Zhou Jing'an was kneeling on the mat, his eyes closed, his expression solemn, and his hands clasped together.
"I pray to God to protect Ling'er and keep her safe."
He repeated this sentence silently in his mind a hundred times.
I don’t ask for a child, I just ask for Jiang Ling to be safe.
