"I didn't expect that we would end up in Suzhou after all these twists and turns," said Jiang Ling.
She smiled happily. She finally found Fang Juexia, so the Queen Mother and Xingxing would be saved.
Zhou Jing'an lowered his eyes, and when he raised them again, there was a hint of coldness in them.
He stood up and said to Jiang Ling, "I have to go to the palace."
Jiang Ling nodded, "Okay, go ahead."
Before leaving, Zhou Jing'an told her, "I might be back late, you don't have to wait for me."
After getting Jiang Ling's consent, he went out, mounted his horse and headed straight for the palace.
-
It was already late, and it was past midnight, but Zhou Jing'an still hadn't returned.
After Jiang Ling finished washing up, she lay on the bed with her black hair loose, reading a storybook and waiting for him.
This storybook is newly published. It tells the story of a young lady from an official family who has fallen into prostitution and is rescued by the son of a merchant. The two gradually fall in love.
This story was a bit cliché for Jiang Ling, who had read a lot of novels and TV dramas in his previous life, but it was still fresh to him.
She flipped through the book roughly, and when she saw that the two had finally overcome all obstacles and were crying and expressing their love to each other, Zhou Jing'an finally hurried back in the moonlight.
Zhou Jing'an tiptoed into the main hall. When he saw the candlelight still on in the inner room, he was startled and then frowned.
He took off his cloak and put it aside, waiting for the coldness in his body to dissipate before stepping inside.
Jiang Ling had heard the noise and came out. She was only wearing a lilac-colored inner garment, with her dark hair hanging down to her waist. She rubbed her sore and bitter eyes, lifted the curtain and walked out. Her little face was pretty.
"You're back, why are you so late?"
Zhou Jingan frowned when he saw how thin she was wearing. "Don't catch a cold wearing so little."
He rubbed his hands vigorously twice, and when his palms were slightly warm, he took her hand and walked inside, leading her directly to the bed. He bent down and lifted her legs, and Jiang Ling was stuffed back into the quilt.
"I'm not cold." Jiang Ling felt helpless about being surrounded by the quilt.
Zhou Jing'an knelt down in front of the bed, looked up at her with distressed eyes.
"Didn't you say you don't have to wait for me? Why aren't you resting at this late hour? Your eyes are red from staying up all night."
Jiang Ling shrugged, and with great effort, stretched out a hand from under the quilt to pick up the notebook beside her. "I'm reading the new notebook, and I'll wait for you."
She didn't wait for him to continue expressing his dissatisfaction and changed the subject directly: "How is it? Did you really find Fang Juexia?"
Zhou Jing'an nodded and put her outstretched hand back. "We already have a clue. We can basically confirm that it's him, and he's in Suzhou."
"So when are we going to find him? Are you going?"
Zhou Jing'an had a complicated look in his eyes. Pei Yu was also in Suzhou, and the fact that he was still alive forced them to be alert and guard against him. They needed to find out whether he was the leader of the people of the former dynasty, and whether he was still ambitious to sit on the throne.
Regardless of other things, Pei Yu is a very dangerous person and must be controlled.
"Well, this matter involves too many things. I have to go there in person."
But... he was a little worried about Jiang Ling.
The worry in his eyes was too obvious, Jiang Ling comforted him: "You don't have to worry about me, I'm fine."
Zhou Jing'an remained silent. Jiang Ling let out a long "Aiya" and reached out to pinch his face. "I'll just stay home and not go anywhere. You can go to Suzhou."
"I'll leave Ye Song and Ye Bai behind to protect you. You just stay in the mansion until I come back. Try not to go out." Zhou Jing'an frowned, still very worried.
Jiang Ling waved her hand, "Ye Song and Ye Bai are your right-hand men, so of course they have to follow you."
"Aren't Xiaojia and the others still here? Having them protect me is enough."
Zhou Jing'an shook his head, his attitude very firm: "I can do it alone, let them protect you."
Jiang Ling couldn't resist him and nodded, "Okay, if this can make you feel at ease."
She vaguely felt that Zhou Jing'an was a little too worried. Everything had been calm for the past month, and she stayed in the house without going out, so how could there be any danger?
And didn’t Ye Song report today that they were in Suzhou?
The capital and Suzhou are thousands of miles apart, and the main force is so far away from her. Ye Song and his team can directly deal with some scattered soldiers, so there shouldn't be any problems.
Thinking of this, Jiang Ling frowned slightly, feeling a bad premonition in his heart.
The more smoothly things go, the more likely they are to go wrong.
She'd better not go out these days.
Don't be afraid of ten thousand things, just be prepared for one.
Seeing her frown, Zhou Jingan asked worriedly, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No." Jiang Ling shook his head. "I've been staying at home these past few days, don't worry."
She pinched his cheek again, "Hurry up and wash up, I'm sleepy."
Zhou Jingan held her hand and rubbed it, "Okay, you go to sleep first."
He stood up and extinguished the candle, leaving only one candle at the foot of the bed.
The room was dim, the candlelight flickering.
Through the gauze curtain, Jiang Ling saw Zhou Jing'an taking off his coat and walking towards the ear room. He had a tall and straight figure, broad shoulders and a narrow waist.
He really has a nice appearance, she thought.
Only after he turned around and disappeared did she withdraw her admiring gaze, casually threw the notebook aside, gathered the quilt together and fell into a deep sleep.
-
Jiang Ling sat on the swing, swinging boredly. From time to time, he looked up at the sky, looked down at the flowers and plants in front of him, and then looked around at Zizhen and Luzhu.
This is the fifth day since Zhou Jing'an set out for Suzhou, and she has never left the house.
Now she felt like she was getting lice from being idle.
