Chapter 247 Departure to Southern Xinjiang

He glanced at Jiang Ling's round belly, his eyes revealing a bit of reluctance, "If I move faster, maybe I can catch up with my grandson's birth."

Jiang Ling's eyes nearly turned red when she heard this. "I'm sure I can catch up. I'm only eight months old. Dad will definitely be able to see his grandson being born."

Meng Wanjie was checking the luggage list. When she heard the father and daughter expressing their true feelings, she couldn't help but glance at them. "Forget about the grandson's birth. I may not even be able to make it in time for the New Year."

Before this, Jiang Lianshan was stationed in southern Xinjiang for three consecutive years. He could only go home when he went to Beijing to report on his work every year. The rest of the time he could only rely on correspondence, but he did it all.

Meng Wanjie chuckled, "As people get older, they really do become fussy."

Jiang Lianshan choked, scratched his head, turned around and sat down next to her, feeling rather uncomfortable. He muttered softly, "My daughter, you can't bear to leave me, can't you? I can't bear to leave you and your grandson either, so why are you being so fussy?"

The two of them chatted with each other, driving away Jiang Ling's sad mood. She couldn't help but burst into laughter. She felt so warm watching the scene of the two people bickering.

In the evening, Zhou Jing'an came to pick her up after finishing his work in the palace. He was relieved to find that her mood was not too low.

After getting on the carriage, Jiang Ling couldn't help but ask, "Is the unrest in Southern Xinjiang serious this time? Will my father and the others be in danger?"

Zhou Jing'an had not come out since he entered the palace early in the morning. Jiang Ling finally caught him and questioned him.

She looked at him intently.

Zhou Jing'an remained silent, then picked out something unimportant to say, "The new ruler of Nanzhao is young and energetic, so he's bound to make a name for himself. However, with my father's talent as a general, we will definitely be able to recapture the city. You don't have to worry too much."

"Really?" Jiang Ling asked.

"Of course." Zhou Jing'an chuckled, then pulled her aside to ask what she had eaten today, fearing that she would not be able to eat due to worry.

Jiang Ling didn't have time to answer and asked a few more questions. She finally felt relieved after getting his answer.

Thinking of the emperor's decree, he asked again: "Yin Jie and Qi Tianyang have no experience on the battlefield, and the emperor is not sending other deputy generals. Is this really okay?"

Questioning the Emperor's will? Zhou Jing'an didn't take Jiang Ling's rebellious words seriously, thinking they were just careless words.

He smiled and said, "Since the emperor has issued an order, he must have a foolproof plan."

Jiang Ling then realized that what she had just said was a bit inappropriate. She pursed her lips and blinked, looking quite innocent.

Zhou Jingan was so touched by her cuteness that he couldn't help but kiss her twice on the cheek. "Ling'er, did you eat well today? You haven't answered my question yet."

"I've eaten." Jiang Ling patted her belly. "Even if I don't eat, the child must eat too. I definitely can't let her/him starve."

Zhou Jingan also touched her belly and said softly, "It's not okay to starve you."

Time passed quickly. Early in the morning of December 10th, a grand ceremony was held to bid farewell to the soldiers.

Jiang Ling was standing on the platform, next to Zhou Ning'an.

The drums roared and the flags fluttered, reflecting the soldiers' high morale.

Jiang Lianshan accepted the seal of the chief general and set off with his soldiers amid the anticipation of Feng Yu and others.

Qi Tianyang and Yin Jie were wearing armor and looking energetic. When they rode out of the city gate, they couldn't help but look back.

A man was looking at that beautiful figure among the ladies, feeling reluctant to leave, but at the same time looking forward to returning to the court after winning the battle as soon as possible so that he could welcome her into the palace with great fanfare.

He turned around, glanced at the people on the platform, and stared straight at one of the figures. Her bright smile unconsciously appeared in his mind.

There was nothing else in his mind but to indulge in such disrespectful behavior, eager to take one more look, so that the desolate winter scenery would not wipe out the color in his eyes on the long journey to southern Xinjiang.
