By the time they are discovered, they may have already reached the north.
They both laughed and praised her for being clever.
Three days later, Wanran looked at the stack of banknotes in A Shui's hand, took it with reluctance, and sighed. Outside the carriage was a Gobi desert, and the moon was hanging brightly in the sky, and the moonlight was as clear as water.
"She..."
As his fingers were stroking the silver bill, a piece of letter suddenly fell out from it. When he unfolded it, he saw the words "The mountains are high and the waters are long, I hope you take care."
Jiang Ling thought for a long time, but still didn't write something like "wait for you to come back".
She didn't want him to feel burdened. This was how Wanran should be. He walked away in a carefree manner, and no one could stop him.
Her eyebrows were smiling and her eyes were soft.
Whispering: "May you have hope and much joy. May you have long peace and no worries in your life."
Wanran drifted away with the early summer breeze. The north was cold, but the summer was also cool. There was a vast desert there, and dancing on the vast Gobi Desert must be a rare and beautiful sight.
When Zhou Xian was two years old, Su Wantang gave birth to a boy and named him Jiang Shangrong.
In the same year, Wu Wanying finally got married after two years of delaying.
He was the new top scholar of the imperial examination that year, named Wen Xiangli. He came from a poor family, but he was a humble man with a well-mannered appearance. He was five years older than Wu Wanying and was a rather rigid person.
His family lived in Shangzhou. He had parents and a grandmother, and only one younger sister. His family was relatively simple, and Wu Wanying's parents had chosen her for the best.
When they first met, Wen Xiangli was at a loss. He looked up at her and blushed. He stuttered for a long time before uttering, "Miss Wu."
Wu Wanying smiled and tilted her head to ask him, "Are you afraid of me?"
His cheeks turned even redder and he shook his head.
"Then why the stuttering?"
He was speechless.
The marriage between the two was quickly decided, and Jiang Ling and others asked her worriedly whether she was willing.
Wu Wanying shrugged. "If I don't get married soon, my mother will kick me out."
Finally, she added, "His family is poor, but not destitute. There are only a few of them. My mother has made inquiries for me. My future mother-in-law is a kind person and has good relations with the neighbors. I believe she will not be abusive."
She chuckled, "Besides, he's the top scholar, a very ambitious man. He's been so focused on studying all these years that he hasn't even dared to look at a girl. He's always been respectful and polite to me, so he's a good person."
The emperor ordered him to return to Shangzhou for a few years of training, and Wu Wanying followed him and married him to another place.
When Jiang Ling and the others were seeing her off at the city gate, they all shed tears. She couldn't help crying too, but she advised them not to cry, saying that they were not far from the capital and they would not see each other for the rest of their lives.
After getting on the carriage, he saw that she finally couldn't hold back her tears and her makeup was all smudged. Wen Xiangli was about to speak, but his brows were filled with worry and distress. In the end, he just held her hand and said dryly, "My lady, don't cry..."
Wu Wanying cried even harder and louder, and he was at a loss and his heart was in turmoil.
This somewhat rigid top scholar clumsily held her hand and coaxed her with one word at a time, and they coaxed her all the way to Shangzhou.
Wu Wanying's eyes were red and swollen. Seeing him sweating and having a dry mouth, she burst out laughing, "You look like an old scholar."
Seeing that she had stopped crying, Wen Xiangli breathed a sigh of relief. Facing her teasing, he didn't know what to say. After holding it in for a long time, he uttered, "I'm not."
When Zhou Xian was three years old, Cheng An gave birth to a daughter and named her Qi Wuqing.
The following year, Jiang Fei gave birth to a boy and named him Lin Zhaoyuan.
Of the six golden flowers, only Zhou Huanan was still single. She was not anxious, and others did not urge her. Only Xia Zhixian was anxious, but she did not dare to push her too hard.
Finally, in early spring, just after Zhou Xian’s fourth birthday, the plan that had been laid for several years finally came to fruition. Zhou Huanan joined the army and went to southern Xinjiang.
The Zhou family was both relieved and worried. She, on the other hand, had a bright and bold smile on her face and couldn't wait to leave Beijing.
In addition to family and friends, there was another person who was so worried that he couldn't sleep all night.
Zhou Jing'an looked at Chen Yuanzong's gloomy face and could not say a word, but just sighed.
The reason for going to southern Xinjiang was that Nanzhao was in rebellion again and had plundered two counties, both close to the border.
One of the county magistrates died as an apology for failing to defend the city, and the other tried his best to stop the Nanzhao looting and was pierced through the heart by a sword.
So two county magistrate positions were left vacant. Before the emperor's edict was issued, Chen Yuanzong went ahead to ask for permission and volunteered to be a county magistrate in southern Xinjiang.
Everyone was shocked and asked him why he did that.
He just shook his head and finally showed a smile that was uglier than crying.
"I just...just wanted to be able to keep an eye on her."
On the day of leaving the city, the two newly appointed county magistrates were to set out with the army.
Zhou Huanan had to start from the lowest level of soldiers. She wore a dark armor, put on her favorite Chengying and slung it around her waist. She stood in the team and saw two new county magistrates coming over. She turned her head and took a look.
Chen Yuanzong looked at her, opened and closed his eyes several times, and finally said nothing else. He just smiled as usual and said, "Miss Zhou, the journey is difficult, please take care."
She stared at him, her eyes filled with complex emotions. Finally, she nodded and lowered her eyes, "You too."
Chen Yuanzong smiled, slowly turned around and got on the carriage.
He sat in the carriage, and Zhou Huanan followed them and the food and supplies on foot.
There was no need to ask, she would not agree to ride in the same carriage with him.
The carriage rumbled along, and Chen Yuanzong gave a wry smile, seemingly mocking himself.
Why bother?
He had asked himself why.
His eyes felt hot and swollen, so he raised his hands to cover them. Moisture was coming out of the corners of his eyes, but he covered it up to hide it completely.
