After Zhou Jing'an endured the cold and loneliness alone for the fourth night, wishing he could fly to Qing County to see his beloved wife, Jiang Ling and others finally set out on the journey back to Beijing one morning.
Unlike Jiang Ling who is already married, the remaining few are all unmarried girls, and their families are eager to bring them back.
It's really worrying to see only a few girls going out to play.
Just now, when Jiang Ling was leisurely wanting to take a detour to Zuimeiji to buy salted green plums, Cheng An was holding the letter sent by his mother with a sad face.
"My mother urged me to go back." She sighed.
Then he said, "My mother said that my brother is going to be an official in another place and will leave in a few days."
He said this with a look of envy and reluctance.
Jiang Ling had just finished comforting her when Wu Wanying took the letter that had just been delivered by express horse, opened it, and smiled helplessly, "Well, I have to go back quickly too."
"Okay, okay, you all should go back." Jiang Ling smiled and sent them away.
She also persuaded the remaining Jiang Fei and Su Wantang to leave.
"I'm just going to buy something and then I'll be back. You guys go back first."
In the end, only she and Zhou Huanan were left, and they went directly to Zuimei Ji.
Salted green plums are called "plum fried" here. She actually doesn't like them very much, but Zhou Jing'an likes them very much.
On her way back, she suddenly wanted to eat, so she bought some to comfort her crying husband.
The Zuimeiji Restaurant was located on the outskirts of the capital, in a farmer's house.
The owner is also confident in his superb skills. Good wine needs no bush, so even though the store is in such a remote place, the daily business is still good.
The wheels rumbled forward, Jiang Ling and Zhou Huanan were chatting and laughing. When they were almost at Zuimeiji, the wheels suddenly got stuck and the carriage stopped abruptly. The two almost fell forward and quickly steadied themselves.
Jiang Ling stuck her head out and asked, "What's wrong?"
Ye Song first asked her if she was hurt, and only when he saw Jiang Ling shake her head did he breathe a sigh of relief.
If Jiang Ling got hurt, he wouldn't have to appear in front of his master.
He squatted down to check, and stood up after a moment, "Young Madam, the axle is broken."
After hearing this, Jiang Ling touched her nose and thought to herself that they had been riding around in a carriage these days, and the axle might not be able to bear the weight.
Ye Song also felt a little guilty. He checked yesterday and found that the axle and wheels were intact. He should have checked again this morning.
He looked up and looked forward, then turned to ask Jiang Ling what she meant: "Young Madam, Zui Mei Ji is just ahead, and there's a tea shop next to it. Otherwise, you and the young lady can come down and rest for a while, and I'll have someone fix it up."
Jiang Ling had no objection and nodded in agreement.
"Move the carriage to the side of the road and don't block other people's way," she instructed.
Although they came here through a small path, most people take the main road and there are not many people passing by here, but it is still better not to block others.
"Hey." Ye Song responded and asked someone to carry the carriage to the side of the road, making most of the way clear. Then he asked his personal guards to quickly repair the axle.
Ye Song went to Zuimei Ji to queue up, Xiaojia took people to repair the axle, and Jiang Ling and Zhou Huanan got off the car to drink tea and rest in a roadside teahouse.
The teahouse is not big, just a shed with a few sets of tables, chairs and benches, and it is quite clean.
Zhou Huan couldn't sit still, and wanted to go for a walk around after just drinking half a bowl of tea.
Jiang Ling smiled and asked someone to follow her and told her not to go too far.
She drank from the tea bowl in one hand and fanned herself with the other.
Fortunately, they set off early and it was not hot yet, otherwise it would be very uncomfortable to sit on the roadside.
There were farmlands and farmers all around, and there wasn't much scenery to see, so she just watched Xiaojia and the others repair the axle.
-
The carriage was driving fast on the path as it was in a hurry to get on with its journey, rolling up a cloud of dust that flew all around.
Yu Xingxi sat in the carriage, scratching the grooves on the wall with all her strength, her delicate little face tightly wrinkled, showing her impatience and irritability at the moment.
"Is this even a road? How do you drive?"
After being tossed back and forth again, she finally couldn't bear it anymore and screamed out.
The maidservant beside her shrank back in fear, and she gritted her teeth and advised, "The driver said this is a small road, and we can catch up with the master and mistress quickly. Miss, just be patient for a while, we will be there soon."
"Endure? How long should I endure it!" Yu Xingxi's eyes widened with anger, and she turned her fire towards the little maid.
"If you hadn't been playing around and wasted time, would you have been in such a hurry to get going? You've made me so embarrassed!"
The little maid nodded repeatedly to admit her mistake, feeling a little aggrieved.
What does it have to do with her?
It was the young lady herself who wanted to visit the flower fields in Qing County. She had originally agreed to stay there for only half a day, but when she got there she changed her mind and insisted on staying overnight before leaving.
No matter how the maids tried to persuade her, it was of no use.
The whole family is so happy that the master can come to Beijing to serve as an official this time. The master is extremely cautious and wants to go to Beijing early to meet the emperor and familiarize himself with the environment in advance.
As a result, the young lady left the team because of her playfulness. The master was already unhappy and told them coldly that they must reach the capital to meet up with them before noon today. Otherwise, he would be very angry and would cause them, the servants, to suffer.
The little maidservant felt more and more aggrieved and hoped that the driver would drive faster and make sure they could reach the capital before noon.
On the other side, Yu Xingxi had no idea what she was thinking. She just felt like her bones were about to break apart. But thinking of her father's cold face, she didn't dare to say that she wanted to stop and rest, so she had to endure it.
But those delicate eyebrows were kept tightly furrowed, and the whole face was puffed up, as if holding its breath, on the verge of exploding at any time.
