Chapter 244: Twists and Turns

After thinking it over, Zhou Jing'an said that they could eat at separate tables the first time, and then they could eat at the same table again.

Zhou Huaixin also meant this.

Now he cares less and less about these things. Moreover, the emperor specifically asked Zhou Jing'an to look after the two of them, and he was happy to have some free time. He secretly wanted to push Zhou Jing'an out to take charge on his own so that he could be a hands-off boss.

Xia Zhixian laughed at him for not wanting to be in charge because he was old, but he said that Zhou Jing'an was already capable of holding up the business and he was training him.

Zhou Ke did the same thing in the beginning, and pushed him out to socialize early on. He is following in his father's footsteps.

A screen depicting the four seasons' scenery was moved into the middle of the dining room, dividing it into two parts, separated by a light gauze, which was neither excessive nor too distant.

After Jiang Ling sat down, she couldn't help but ask, "Since we're eating at separate tables, why don't you call Huan'an?"

Jiang Lan waved her hand and smiled, "It's quieter without this girl here."

Xia Zhixian continued, "Otherwise, they'd be staring holes in him."

Jiang Ling understood.

Zhou Huanan would show great enthusiasm whenever she met people or things related to martial arts. She couldn't help but laugh, as she was indeed easy to scare people.

Most of the dishes for dinner were unique to the capital. The chefs at Zhou Mansion had superb skills, and were no worse than those at other restaurants. The table of dishes was grand and rich, yet warm and cozy, which was very appropriate.

Don't talk while eating, don't talk while sleeping. But fearing that the two would feel uncomfortable, Zhou Ke was more talkative, like a kind elder asking about their situation. Qi Xiaoming would cheerfully reply, while Yin Jie would just concentrate on eating, occasionally responding with a word or two.

Zhou Jing'an also spoke to them gently, and the atmosphere at the dinner table was quite harmonious.

It was more comfortable on the other side of the veil, and the atmosphere was warm.

Jiang Ling hasn't had a good appetite these past two days. I don't know if it's because the weather has gotten warmer in recent days, but I always don't feel like eating.

Jiang Lan and Xia Zhixian felt sorry for her and temporarily put aside the rule of not talking while eating. They talked to her and made her laugh from time to time, hoping that she would eat more.

Jiang Ling knew what the two were thinking, so she forced herself to eat a few more bites. But as soon as she took the last bite of pickled fish with chopsticks, her stomach churned.

Jiang Ling forced herself to stand up and ran to the side to vomit a few times, feeling a little uncomfortable.

Her noise startled the people next door. Zhou Jing'an immediately put down his chopsticks, said sorry and strode over.

Jiang Lan and Xia Zhixian were standing by with water, so he walked over and took it. "Grandma, Mom, I'll do it."

After persuading them to go back for dinner, Zhou Jing'an helped Jiang Ling walk to the bathroom next to the dining room. Zizhen stopped and did not follow them.

Jiang Ling's eyes turned red with pain. She turned around and pushed him: "The guests are still here, why are you here?"

"Have a drink of water, ok?" Zhou Jing'an frowned distressedly and handed her the water. "We have Grandfather and Dad. Don't think too much. Are you still feeling bad?"

The nausea dissipated a little. Jiang Ling rinsed his mouth, frowned and shook his head, "It's okay, you can go back."

Ever since Jiang Ling became pregnant, in order to take care of her appetite and because she didn't want to always be at the dinner table and affect their meals, the two of them ate in their own yard and only went to the dining room on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month to eat together as a family.

They finally had a meal together and there were guests present, so it was no big deal for Zhou Jing'an to always accompany her.

Zhou Jing'an frowned, but didn't move an inch. "Doctor He gave me a medicine bag last time. Can you take it with you?"

Jiang Ling shook her head, "I haven't brought it with me since I vomited due to pregnancy for a long time."

"I'll have someone get it for you."

"No need." Jiang Ling stopped him. "I'm much better now. I've almost finished eating. Just two more sips of soup will be fine."

Zhou Jingan looked worried, "You haven't eaten much."

Jiang Ling laughed, "How much can you see me eat through the screen?"

"I've been paying attention to you, and when I walked over just now, I saw that there was still most of the rice left in your bowl." He frowned.

"Okay, okay, let's go back quickly and don't let grandma and the others worry." Jiang Ling pulled him out.

She wanted to let go as she walked out, but Zhou Jing'an held her tightly until she was sitting steadily. He then let go and said, "If you can't eat, don't force yourself. Just tell them what you want to eat."

Jiang Ling felt her face flush and nodded: "Okay, I understand."

Glancing at Jiang Lan and Xia Zhixian's smiles, Jiang Ling felt a little embarrassed and pushed him away: "Go back quickly."

Zhou Jing'an nodded, raised his hand and touched the porcelain bowl of soup, and said to Zizhen beside him: "The soup is cold, bring fresh water."

He left only after Zizhen agreed.

As soon as he walked past the screen, the feeling from the afternoon came back. Zhou Jing'an frowned and glanced over sharply. Sure enough, he saw Yin Jie looking over there through the screen. When he noticed his gaze, he quickly lowered his head.
