He was just hesitating when Jiang Ling came over and took off the cloth bag. There were still four pieces of Poria Cocos and Eight Treasures Cakes, three pieces of Chestnut Cakes and two Water Chestnut and Beef Cakes left in it.
She took out a horseshoe beef cake and handed it to him: "I brought some cakes with me when I went out to prevent hunger. Have some."
Zhou Jing'an stuffed the wooden box into his robe, thanked him and took it.
Jiang Ling also picked up the cake and started eating. She was already hungry after running all the way.
The two of them shared the food, which was enough to fill their stomachs to about 70%. Jiang Ling handed him the water bag.
"I'm not thirsty. I'll leave the water for you." Zhou Jing'an didn't take it.
Jiang Ling didn't move, just looked at him.
"There's still half the water left, enough for the two of us tonight," she said. "After tonight, let's go out tomorrow and look for any streams or rivers."
The trees here are tall and the leaves are dense, so there must be a river passing through to supply water.
Don’t worry if you have finished eating the cakes, you can go fishing in the river.
She is very good at catching fish.
Zhou Jing'an gave in again under her persistent gaze. He took the bottle and weighed it. There was indeed quite a lot left, but he didn't drink much.
Let’s leave it to Jiang Ling.
When he handed the water bag to Jiang Ling, he was suddenly stunned. He remembered that there was no tea bowl here, only this water bag. He had already touched his mouth to drink. What should Jiang Ling do...
"Sorry, I...I'm going to find something..." He stood up in a panic, but Jiang Ling took it directly, wiped the bottle mouth with his sleeve, and took two sips.
Zhou Jing'an was stunned as he watched her drink from the water bag without any hesitation.
Her plump, pink lips pressed against the edge of the sac, and she tilted her head back slightly to drink the water.
Zhou Jing'an's entire face suddenly turned red like a sunset cloud in the sky.
"You...you..." He stuttered "you" for a long time but couldn't say anything.
Jiang Ling calmly closed the bag, smiled sweetly, and blinked, "The conditions are tough right now, so we have to put all these rules and etiquette aside for now. Master Zhou... you won't mind, right?"
She raised her head and looked at him with a calm look.
Zhou Jing'an covered his lips with his fist, coughed lightly, turned away, and stammered, "I'm just worried that Miss Jiang has been wronged."
Jiang Ling nodded: "Ling'er, it's okay. I never pay attention to these empty formalities."
She pointed to the open space next to her. The cliff wall there was slightly concave, which was just right for sheltering from the wind. She found some dry grass and leaves and spread them on the ground, so she could barely rest.
"Master Zhou, go and rest. I will keep watch."
Zhou Jing'an frowned when he heard this, ignoring his previous awkwardness, "How can you let Miss Jiang keep watch? You go and rest, and I will keep watch."
Jiang Ling shook his head firmly, "Master Zhou, go and rest. You should recuperate after your injuries."
The two argued for a while over who would keep watch. How could Zhou Jing'an let Jiang Ling be exposed to the cold wind all night? She was a delicate woman, and he couldn't let her suffer like this.
So he rarely frowned, his expression solemn, and his tone firm: "Miss Jiang is a woman, she has been running for a long time, she needs to rest well. Zhou is a man, strong and healthy, how can I let you keep watch all night?"
Jiang Ling looked up at him. He was standing and she was sitting. Zhou Jing'an's face was serious and his aura was imposing, which made Jiang Ling think of the dean's posture of scolding people.
If you are injured, just go and have a good rest. Why do you have to argue with her about these trivial things? Their lives are now in his hands, so naturally he should be focused on recuperating first. What does it matter to her?
He is still so mean to her.
She was so angry that she didn't even bother to address him. She frowned and said coldly, "Zhou Jing'an, you're injured, so go and rest. The mountains and forests are full of dangers. Those bandits may be searching for us all night. I'm powerless, and I can only do my best to avoid being a burden to you."
"You are a skilled martial artist, and I can only rely on you now. You are already inconvenienced by your injuries, and if you insist on keeping watch and arguing with me about what happened over the past few hours, when the bandits come after us tomorrow, you will be powerless to resist and let them beat, kill, or capture us. That would be the end of us."
She was angry, and her voice became much louder. It echoed in the cave and hit Zhou Jing'an again and again, making him stunned for a while.
After Jiang Ling finished speaking, she didn't even look at him. She turned around, faced the cave entrance, and fiddled with the fire with a branch, leaving him with only her back.
Zhou Jing'an looked at her slender figure, sensed her anger, and felt a panic in his heart, so he took a few steps forward.
He said dryly, "Don't be angry. I just want you to rest."
Jiang Ling heard his tone soften and knew that this trick would work.
Well, here comes another beauty shedding tears.
She kept her eyes open without blinking, and tears welled up in her eyes when the night wind blew.
She choked up and looked back at him, tears glistening in her eyes. "I don't know martial arts, so I can't help you resist the bandits. I can still keep watch all night, so what if I don't sleep for a few hours?"
Jiang Ling frowned slightly, pursed her lips, and looked like tears were about to fall: "When you have rested well, you won't be afraid of any number of people coming. Our fate depends on you, so why should you care about me or you? Yet you are still arguing with me here, and so fiercely..."
When Zhou Jing'an heard the crying tone in her voice, he panicked and didn't know what to do. He took two quick steps to her, knelt down, and put his hands on the stone beside her, almost holding her in his arms.
He raised his head to look at her, his tone gentle, his eyes nervously watching her expression, and coaxed: "Don't cry, I'm not mean to you, I won't argue with you, don't cry..."
