Chapter 150 The Passerby Who Died Before the Famine Even Began (6)

"Alright, let's go to the capital together!"

"Haha, I feel much more at ease knowing that our two families are traveling together. I was always worried that I wouldn't be able to keep an eye on my wife and children and something might happen. Now that our two families are helping each other, we'll be much safer on the road."

After agreeing to go to the capital together, the relationship between the two families became much closer. Afterwards, Bai Ze and Jiang's father discussed the route. The route needed to be planned carefully. They had to go through places with water because people and livestock needed to drink. They also couldn't go too far from towns, otherwise, not only would it be inconvenient to resupply, but they would also be prone to encountering wild animals and bandits in the deep mountains and forests.

Unlike now, where you can just take out your phone and navigate, after agreeing on the route, Chen started clearing the table and packing up the dishes. Then, Jiang's father put away the earthenware pot, which they would need for cooking and boiling water on the way. They would set off early the next morning, and they would cook after setting up camp at noon.

Father Jiang arranged for Bai Ze and the others to stay in the guest rooms in the front yard. After locking the door, he went back to his room to sleep and recharge. That night, after Bai Ze detached from the puppet, he flew back to Jiang Yue's room. After entering the room, Bai Ze transmitted to Jiang Yue the movements they had made over the past few days. In order to make their origins more realistic, they had actually gone to Tianshui County and spent money there to obtain identities before coming here. It was a coincidence that the Jiang family hadn't left today. Bai Ze thought that if they had left, he would have to contact Jiang Yue to confirm their location and then chase after them.

After transmitting the events of the past few days, Bai Ze helped Jiang Yue absorb the bloodline seed. Once the absorption was complete, Jiang Yue and Bai Ze discussed whether to kill the rebel leader. Otherwise, if they didn't know, that would be one thing, but if they did know, should they still let him continue to massacre the city? Bai Ze thought for a moment and said, "Master, leave a puppet here. I'll set up a program to persuade him later. If he listens, we'll leave it alone. If he doesn't listen and insists on massacring the city, then it's not too late to kill him."

"How are you going to convince them? They won't listen to their own subordinates, why would they listen to a stranger like you?"

“I’ll take the prefect’s head with me. Anyway, the prefect isn’t a good person. He’s dead, so be it. If he doesn’t listen to this, then the rebel leader doesn’t deserve to die.”

Jiang Yue thought about it and decided to do it according to Bai Ze's idea. After discussing it, Bai Ze went back to the puppets. Jiang Yue yawned, changed into a comfortable sleeping position, and went to sleep.

At four o'clock the next morning, Jiang's father and Bai Ze had already packed up their things and hitched up the carriage. Then they woke up their wife and children. Jiang Yue was still sleepy when her mother pulled her up. She had only gone to bed around 12 o'clock the night before and had only slept for four hours before waking up again.

After waking up, Jiang Yue washed her face and became much more awake. Seeing the twins' drowsy and sleepy appearance, she couldn't help but play with them for a while. As a result, she was scolded by Chen Shi for a long time. She had woken them up and made them cry, but she didn't comfort them. It was Chen Shi who suffered.

After getting up, they didn't even have time to eat. They wanted to travel a little further while the weather wasn't too hot. If they got hungry, they would either eat dry rations or wait until the midday sun to eat. When they arrived in the county town, it was just getting light. There were already people setting up stalls by the roadside. Jiang's father and Bai Ze discussed it and decided to eat something before continuing on their way, and also let the animals rest.

After parking, they fed the mules hay and water, and each of them ate a bowl of noodles. Jiang Yue took a bite, and although it wasn't pure white noodles, it tasted very good. The twins wanted to go out and play, but were ruthlessly suppressed. After eating and paying, they crossed the county town and continued on their way. By almost eleven o'clock, the weather was too hot to travel, so they found a shady spot under a tree and decided to set off again in the afternoon.

By 2 p.m., the sunlight wasn't so strong anymore. We led the mules onto the cart, and after everyone was on board, we set off. It got dark by 7 p.m. On our first day out, we weren't in a hurry. We were far from any village or shop, so we left the main road and found a quiet, open spot to set up camp.

After getting out of the car, Jiang Yue stretched her limbs. The twins, who had been quite excited in the morning, were listless by the end of the day. Jiang Yue carried the twins out of the car and they regained some energy. Jiang's father and Bai Ze parked the car around it to keep out wild animals at night. Chen Shi and the female puppet Bai Xiaoyu prepared to start a fire and cook, while Jiang Yue and her three children began to set up their sleeping place.

There are no particular rules about sleeping nowadays. Jiang Yue found a flat spot, cleared away the stones, laid out a straw mat and bedding, and that was it. After Jiang Yue finished, Chen Shi and Bai Shi had already boiled water. Each of them had a bowl of hot water, and then they roasted the dry food they had brought, and that was it for a meal.

Nighttime is different from noon. At night, you have to be wary of wild animals like wolves. Even if you can keep watch, you can't do it too well. After a simple meal, they discussed the order of night watch. Jiang Yue took her younger siblings to bed. With Bai Ze around, there was no need to worry about safety. At most, there would be some close calls.

The second and third days passed without incident. On the evening of the fourth day, after dinner, Jiang's father and Bai Ze checked the map to make sure they hadn't gone to the wrong place. They figured they would arrive in Shima County the next afternoon. The two families agreed to rest for two days after arriving in Shima County, get a good night's sleep, take a bath, and then replenish their food and supplies before setting off again.

The next afternoon, they arrived at Shima County and found an inn to stay in. After eating a hot meal, they took a shower. Bai Ze's family pretended to be tired, while Jiang Yue's family was genuinely exhausted. After showering, they quickly went back to their rooms to sleep. They slept until late the next day, and the pain in their bodies had lessened considerably. After the two families reunited, they went to explore Shima County.

Because of the war, there weren't many people in the city. Jiang Yue saw people queuing to buy food in front of the grain store, and there were also horse-drawn carriages heading out of the city. Of course, there were even more people entering the city to seek refuge. After walking around, the two little ones bought a bunch of snacks. They had been cooped up for days. Fortunately, they were quite sensible and not the kind of brats. Although they were unhappy on the way, they didn't cause any trouble.

Back at the inn, everyone lay on the bed, too tired to move. Jiang's father and Bai Ze went to prepare some dry rations. It wasn't practical to make them themselves, so they had to buy ready-made ones. Fortunately, the inn sold them all, so they didn't have to go out of their way to buy them. They also spent extra money to have the waiter take good care of the four mules. The four mules were actually fine, but Jiang Yue was afraid they would give up halfway, so she fed them spirit beast pills. Jiang's father found them to be very obedient and resilient, and thought he had a good eye for them. He had even boasted to Bai Ze about it before.

Two days passed in the blink of an eye. After packing our things, we were ready to set off. We ate a particularly lavish meal at the inn for the last time, and even packed some leftovers to eat the next day. We set off again early the next morning. There were many more days like this to come. It would take at least two or three months to reach the capital. If we encountered bandits or defeated soldiers, we might have to give way. So, who knows how long it would take?
