Chapter 35 Passerby A in the 1970s Rural Life Story 9

After returning home, Jiang Yue waited for Li Mengqi and Liu Ruyan to put their things away before starting today's tutoring session. Since the time was too short, they didn't learn anything new, but instead arranged a test to see how well they had learned and what areas they hadn't yet mastered. Two hours later, Jiang Yue finished grading the papers and could only say that, as expected of the female lead, both of them got everything right.

After the exam, Li Mengqi and Liu Ruyan took out some food, and Jiang Yue also pretended to take some snacks out of the cabinet. The three of them celebrated and chatted while eating. Just as they were having a good time, they heard a commotion outside. They packed up their things and went out to see what was going on.

Jiang Yue and the other two walked out of the courtyard gate and followed the crowd to the educated youth compound. Once there, the atmosphere at the educated youth compound was not very good.

Su Yao was surrounded by a group of people, her clothes were a little disheveled, while Wang Zhiqiang was pinned to the ground, and he kept saying that Su Yao had seduced him and that they were in love. Su Yao buried her head in the arms of a female educated youth, crying and not saying a word, while several boys around her comforted her.

Before long, the brigade leader and the accountant, along with a few other people in charge, arrived. Upon seeing the chaotic situation, they immediately said, "Release Wang Zhiqing first!"

"Captain, we can't let him go. He's forcing women. If someone hadn't gone to collect firewood and happened to find out, he would have succeeded."

Wang Zhiqiang shouted excitedly, "You're talking nonsense! Su Yao told me to go over there."

At this moment, one of Su Yao's sycophants couldn't hold back any longer and punched her, yelling as he did so, "You don't deserve it! People like you should be shot!"

Wang Zhiqiang was no pushover either and immediately retaliated. The two exchanged insults and fought at the same time. The captain quickly said, "Quickly pull them apart!"

After they were pulled apart, Wang Zhiqiang was about to speak when the brigade leader stopped him, pointing to the person in charge of the educated youth and saying, "You speak."

After the person in charge finished speaking, the brigade leader and the people next to him understood what had happened. It turned out that when one of the educated youths went to get firewood to cook, he saw Wang Zhiqiang doing *that* to Su Yao. Su Yao was still resisting. Then, Liu, another educated youth, went up and pulled Wang Zhiqiang away and started calling for help. Finally, everyone came out, and after learning what had happened, they started beating Wang Zhiqiang.

"Wang Zhiqing, can you tell me about this situation?"

Wang Zhiqiang wasn't stupid and quickly said, "Captain, it's not like what they said. Su Yao called me out to eat and said she had something to tell me. At first, she said she would only kiss me if she agreed to be my girlfriend. But then she suddenly started tearing at her clothes and shouting. I stopped her because I didn't want her to shout."

The brigade leader did not believe Wang Zhiqiang's side of the story. After making him stop, he asked Su Yao, "Su, is what Wang said true?"

Su Yao looked up, her face streaked with tears, and choked out, "Captain, it's not what he said. I went to him because he had helped me before, and I wanted to thank him. But he suddenly started touching me inappropriately, and I couldn't struggle, so I had to shout for help."

The two sycophants standing nearby were also furious, and they both stood up to testify for Su Yao.

Wang Zhiqiang was also struggling excitedly, saying that Su Yao was talking nonsense; in short, each of them had their own version of events.

The brigade leader looked at Wang Zhiqiang with a gloomy face. "If what Su Yao said is true, Wang Zhiqiang, your behavior is very bad. We will report it to the commune and wait for further action."

He then looked at Su Yao: "Su Yao, if what Wang Zhiqing said is true, then your actions constitute false accusation, and the consequences will be quite serious."

After saying this, he looked around at everyone and said, "Our brigade has no authority to handle this matter. We need to report it to the police. You two come with us to the brigade headquarters first. There will be militiamen guarding it. We'll talk about it when the police arrive."

After speaking, he waved to the militia captain, who then led his men to take Wang Zhiqiang and Su Yao away.

After everyone left, the captain pondered for a moment and said, "You witnesses should also come along, so it will be easier for the police to question you."

After saying that, he told them to follow.

Then, the brigade leader called over two young men from the village: "You two ride my and the accountant's bicycles to the commune and invite the police officers here." After saying that, he handed his bicycle keys to one of them, and the accountant also took out his keys.

After the two left, the brigade leader looked at the people at the educated youth settlement and said solemnly, "I hope this is the first and last time something like this happens. If any more of this kind of mess occurs, we will send them back to the educated youth office. Jiangjiaba is too small to accommodate such a big shot."

Everyone agreed. Seeing this, the captain gave a few more instructions and then turned and left.

Jiang Yue and the other two exchanged glances. Li Mengqi and Liu Ruyan followed them back to Jiang Yue's house. After a moment of silence, Liu Ruyan spoke up: "Which of you two do you think was telling the truth?"

Jiang Yue and Li Mengqi exchanged a glance and said, "I guess what Wang Zhiqiang said is true." Li Mengqi next to her nodded in agreement.

"Huh? I always thought Su Yao was telling the truth. After all, how could she use her own innocence to frame someone?"

Jiang Yue gestured for Li Mengqi to speak, and Li Mengqi didn't hold back: "Wang Zhiqiang looks like a scoundrel, but he's just a coward. A real bad guy isn't like him. That's not the point. I've seen Su Yao looking at him with malicious eyes more than once."

"The main reason is that Su Yao used to keep Wang Zhiqiang around because he was useful and she relied on him to help with farm work. Now that there is less work in winter, Wang Zhiqiang is less useful to her. And since Wang Zhiqiang doesn't have to work anymore, he has more free time, so he is becoming more and more persistent. The main reason is that Su Yao has set her sights on another person at the educated youth settlement."

“A few days ago, I met Su Yao and a few others on the mountain. They said that Feng Zhiqing’s family was not ordinary. I guess Su Yao has taken a fancy to Feng Zhiqing, so she can’t wait to get rid of Wang Zhiqiang.”

After hearing Li Mengqi's words, Liu Ruyan hurriedly said, "There's no need to be so ruthless, isn't there? Why not just stay away from her? Besides, if she gets rid of Wang Zhiqiang, will she definitely be able to hook up with Feng Zhiqing?"

Li Mengqi shook her head and said, "I don't know about that. I can't figure it out either. Maybe Wang Zhiqiang has some kind of leverage over us, but that doesn't make sense."

After they finished talking, the three of them still couldn't understand what was going on. They chatted for a while longer before the two of them went home.

The next morning, the brigade leader called a meeting. Because the matter was very serious, the trial had been conducted overnight. After questioning and investigation, Su Yao's statement was ultimately accepted. Although Wang Zhiqiang was very agitated and kept saying that it was not like that, the witnesses and evidence all leaned towards Su Yao, and in the end, he was still sent to the farm.

As Wang Zhiqiang packed his luggage, he glared at Su Yao with a fierce look. Su Yao kept her head down and didn't say anything. She glanced around at the people around her before being pulled away. Jiang Yue looked at Wang Zhiqiang's gaze and then at Su Yao with her head down. She shook her head and thought that it would be better if Wang Zhiqiang were dead, otherwise this matter would not have ended like this.
