Chapter 367 Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside in the 1960s 29

On the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, Jiang Yue cooked dumplings. The vegetables were leftovers from yesterday. After eating, Jiang Yue opened the front door. Once the door was open, people would know that she was awake, and the children playing outside could come over to wish her a Happy New Year. This year, the red envelopes Jiang Yue prepared were in the style of wedding candies from later generations. Inside each small bag was a red envelope with some candies and dried fruit. After the food was eaten, the small bag could still be used to store other things.

Happy Chinese New Year, Sister Xiaoyue!

Happy Chinese New Year, Teacher Jiang!

Happy Chinese New Year, Auntie!

"Hey, how are you all?"

Wait, who called her "Auntie"? There were too many children, and Jiang Yue didn't notice who called her. Sigh, she hadn't realized she was already thirty years old. Coming back to her senses, she looked at the children in front of her, told them to line up, and gave each of them a red envelope. After the first group of children left, the news spread, and soon there were many more children in the house.

When Jiang Yue was handing out red envelopes, she noticed some unfamiliar faces, unsure of whose relatives' children they were. Since they were already there, Jiang Yue had prepared extra red envelopes. After all, it was Chinese New Year, and people were coming to pay their respects; she couldn't possibly take them back. By noon, most of the children had already visited, and Jiang Yue kept the remaining red envelopes, thinking she could give one to any of her colleagues' children at school.

Jiang Yue didn't eat much in the morning. At noon, she heated up the remaining half of the pork knuckle, then cooked some rice to make a pork knuckle bibimbap. Paired with her homemade pickled radish, it was simply perfect. Add a bottle of Coke, and it was unbeatable. If she ate this every day, she would gain weight sooner or later.

The Spring Festival holiday passed quickly, and before we knew it, it was time to start school. The factory workers had already been back at work for a few days.

On the first day of school, Jiang Yue went to school early because she had been told that there would be a meeting that day.

After parking her bicycle at the bike shed, Jiang Yue ran into Teacher Wen, who was out fetching water, on her way to the office. She quickly caught up with Teacher Wen and said, "Teacher Wen! Wait for me, I'll go with you."

"Xiao Jiang, you should go back to your office first. It's cold outside. I can go by myself."

"It's alright, Teacher Wen. Please give me a chance to serve everyone!"

"Haha, you silly kid, come on! Let's go together."

The two chatted and laughed as they went to the water room. Fortunately, there weren't many people in line. Jiang Yue and Teacher Wen chatted while waiting in line, so it went by quickly. On the way back to the office after getting water, Teacher Wen said to Jiang Yue, "Xiao Jiang, after the meeting, the director might ask the new teachers to introduce themselves. Be prepared."

"Also, I checked the timetable. The second period this afternoon is history class. This will be your first class, and some teachers may be there to observe. Don't be nervous, just teach according to your lesson plan."

"Oh, thank you for reminding me, Sister Wen. I was prepared, so don't worry!"

"Well, as long as you have a plan in mind, I know you are capable. I'm just worried you might get nervous. But if you can deliver the first lesson completely, that's a success. A few flaws are okay."

Back in her office, Jiang Yue first cleaned her desk. Just as Teacher Wen had said, while the students were cleaning, the school held a brief meeting. After the meeting, the new teacher was introduced to everyone.

Jiang Yue was the first to go up and introduce herself. Fortunately, Jiang Yue was a seasoned pro, and this little commotion was nothing to her. After introducing herself, Jiang Yue sat down amidst applause. After the newcomers finished their introductions, the principal said a few words of encouragement and then the meeting adjourned.

Back in the office, Teacher Su was already out busy. As a homeroom teacher, he was naturally busier than a single-subject teacher. However, Jiang Yue's carefree life would only last for six months. According to the school leaders' conversation with her, Jiang Yue would also be in charge of a class when the new students enrolled in September.

According to the school leaders, Jiang Yue is a very talented person and her talents should not be wasted. This semester is to let her get familiar with teaching work and learn from Teacher Su how to manage a class. When school starts in September, she can teach the new students.

In fact, Jiang Yue didn't want to be a homeroom teacher at all, because it was too tiring. These days, a class has fifty or sixty students. She would see if she could decline the position, and if not, she would just take the job for now. After teaching this class of students for two or three years, she would take a leave of absence without pay and go into business.

After cleaning the classroom, they started distributing books. The second class began after the new textbooks were handed out. Jiang Yue didn't have any classes in the morning, but she was assigned to listen to a lecture by an experienced teacher. She had wanted to slack off for a while, but that was no longer an option.

After lunch, I rested in the office for a while. The first class of the afternoon started at 2:30. The first class was a class meeting taught by Teacher Su, so Jiang Yue went with Teacher Su to get a feel for the situation in the class.

After arriving at Class 3, Jiang Yue found a seat in the back row. There were quite a few extra seats behind the teachers' classrooms today, which were prepared for school leaders and senior teachers to observe the class later. There wasn't much useful information in the class meeting. Most of the content was Teacher Su emphasizing discipline, and a small part talked about the grades from last semester, but Jiang Yue already knew all of that.

The only takeaway from this lesson was that she finally matched the names in her head with the people in the class. After the class meeting, Jiang Yue followed Teacher Su back to the office. Teacher Su and the others were quite surprised to see how calm Jiang Yue was.

Actually, Jiang Yue didn't need to prepare anything. She took over the class halfway through, and the students had already attended classes for a semester. There was no need for Jiang Yue to emphasize classroom discipline or anything like that. These days, students still have a sense of awe towards teachers, so she didn't need to set any rules for them. She could just focus on teaching and whether they would appreciate her teaching later would depend on her abilities.

With five minutes left before class started, Jiang Yue grabbed her textbook and went to the classroom. Several leaders and teachers were already sitting at the back. Jiang Yue felt that the school valued her quite a bit; at least there weren't so many people when she went to listen to new teachers' lectures before.

Once this guy became the class leader and homeroom teacher, the students in the class were all incredibly well-behaved. There were fewer students playing around and whispering during breaks. After the bell rang, Jiang Yue took her textbook and walked to the podium. With the class monitor's call to stand up, Jiang Yue's first class began.

"Hello everyone, my name is Jiang Yue, and I will be your history teacher starting today. History is a..." After briefly introducing herself and the significance of the subject, Jiang Yue addressed the class:

"I know that none of you have previewed the history textbook on the first day of class, and you probably haven't seriously reviewed the content you learned last semester during the holiday. Today, I will lead you to review the content you learned last semester."

Time passed slowly. Jiang Yue spoke entirely without notes, spending half an hour leading everyone to review the content learned last semester. The blackboard was full of knowledge points. With ten minutes left, Jiang Yue briefly introduced the content to be learned in the next class, allowing students to preview it in advance.
