Day 5.
Jiang Yue slept very well. After getting up, she boiled some water to wash her face. There were still some noodles left, so she cooked them. Then she took out two slices of luncheon meat and fried them. She also took out two strips of beef jerky and ate them. Today, she planned to complete the third side quest in one go, as she was afraid that something might happen later.
After eating and drinking her fill, Jiang Yue closed the door, then restored the alarm device to its original state. After going downstairs, she put on a homemade mask and a homemade blood-stained suit and began to move. Jiang Yue made this blood-stained suit based on her discovery of the zombies' habits. They rely on hearing and smell to detect humans, and if she walked slowly while wearing the blood-stained suit, the zombies would not be able to find her.
Jiang Yue's plan was good. She killed zombies from morning until 11 p.m., and all the zombies in the neighborhood were gone. She had only completed half of the tasks for the third side quest. With no other option, Jiang Yue had to head home. She didn't even have time to collect anything, and her arms were so sore and numb that she had to rely on her willpower to keep going.
When I got home, I didn't even have time to wash up. I just managed to start a fire, took off my outer clothes, and went back to bed.
Day 6.
When Jiang Yue woke up the next day, her whole body ached, especially her arms. They felt like they weren't even her own. It seemed she would need to rest for a couple of days. After struggling to get up, she cooked a big pot of food. It filled her stomach, but the taste was terrible, especially the canned meat. If the control panel hadn't said it was edible, Jiang Yue would have thrown it away. It was so disgusting.
After eating, I drank some of the water I brought with me. Although my whole body ached, because my character attributes were digitized, I was slowly recovering after eating and drinking enough. Now it doesn't hurt as much as it did at the beginning.
Even during my rest time, I don't plan to be idle. I haven't searched the supplies in one neighborhood yet, especially the cars downstairs. I'll see if any of them are drivable, and if they have fuel, I can collect some to set the zombies on fire so I don't have to fight them myself.
After searching the neighborhood, Jiang Yue found two backpacks full of supplies. She immediately put them up for sale on the trading channel. Currently, there is a handling fee for taking them down, but carrying them back herself would be exhausting. There is also wood, which should be enough to last through the winter.
After collecting the supplies, Jiang Yue went downstairs to check the cars. Unfortunately, most of the parts had been taken away, and there was no gasoline at all. If she wanted to find a car or gasoline, she would probably have to go to a place with a lot of zombies, where people couldn't even get in.
Day 7.
Jiang Yue didn't go out. She spent the whole day studying the rooftop. The place she was in was probably an urban village. There weren't many zombies left in the vicinity. To complete mission three, she would have to go to other places to kill zombies.
The nearest residential area is quite far from her; she can only see its outline from here. Without any transportation, she can't travel. Should she abandon this base and go there, or pack enough food for a few days, complete the mission there, and then return? This is what Jiang Yue is currently pondering.
She doesn't know what's going on over there, and if things change, she'll have nowhere to run. Unlike here, where she's already cleared out the zombies. If she sets up a few roadblocks, it'll be a great base.
I finally decided not to move, but to go there and complete the mission. It would be perfect if I could find a drivable car. I made up my mind and went back to the house to prepare. I had a good meal that night, and I needed to replenish my energy before going on a killing spree tomorrow.
Day 8.
Jiang Yuetian got up at the crack of dawn. Since he couldn't find his watch, he didn't know what time it was. After eating, the sun had already risen, and he dared not travel at night. What if there were zombies he couldn't even see?
After locking the door, Jiang Yue headed towards her destination. The only sound along the way was the sound of her own footsteps, which was quite eerie. Jiang Yue didn't travel at full speed; she walked and stopped frequently to avoid running out of energy to fight zombies if she encountered one. Around noon, Jiang Yue arrived outside the residential area she had seen.
The residential area was overgrown with weeds and swarmed with zombies, so it was probably uninhabited. Jiang Yue was still observing how to infiltrate the area. Killing five hundred zombies was no problem for her, but taking on five hundred at once would be suicide.
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Yue noticed the dry weeds on the ground. Now she had an idea: fire would be perfect. The zombies couldn't leave the community because of the fence. She just needed to throw the ignition material downstairs. Although the community might not be saved, it was the apocalypse, so why worry about so much?
Jiang Yue made some torches on the outside and put them in her inventory. She found a place with few zombies and sneaked into the apartment building. She threw out all the flammable materials in the room and killed any lone zombies.
Jiang Yue knew this would definitely waste a lot of supplies, but she had enough, so she figured it was fine as long as it wasn't wasted.
After throwing the ignition source down, the noise attracted all the zombies. Jiang Yue then threw down some chairs and benches to surround the group of zombies, preventing them from running away if they caught fire.
After finishing her work, Jiang Yue went downstairs. All that was left was to light the fire. Jiang Yue took out the torches she had made. These torches didn't have oil or other accelerants, so they didn't burn for very long. However, since there was plenty of igniter, she didn't need to worry about that.
As Jiang Yue threw the burning torch inside, the fire grew extremely large within minutes. Jiang Yue's plan succeeded. She breathed a sigh of relief as she watched the number of zombies killed on the panel rise steadily, thinking that the system didn't count this indirect method.
The noise from the fire attracted the zombies, and Jiang Yue took the opportunity to check the vehicles. The vehicles on the perimeter were the same as before; not a single one was intact. There were many cars in the residential area, but after this fire, even those that existed before were probably burned to death.
By nightfall, the raging fire had subsided, and Jiang Yue had easily completed her task. The only remaining challenge was to find a vehicle, as Jiang Yue lacked a sense of security with any mode of transportation.
However, it's already dark, so Jiang Yue isn't planning to go out. She'll eat something and wait until tomorrow.
Day 9.
After eating breakfast, Jiang Yue put her backpack back into her inventory. Her goal for the day was to find a car. When she arrived at the neighborhood, most of the cars had been burned to their skeletons, and only a dozen or so had survived. However, these cars had all been vandalized, and the main parts and gasoline were gone. Jiang Yue was a little helpless. Was this something the authorities did? She hadn't even seen a decent car.
After wandering around for a while, they arrived at the community parking lot. It was too dark inside for Jiang Yue to go in, and there was a high probability that there were no usable cars there. Jiang Yue didn't want to take the risk.
She climbed to the top of the apartment building, which was over 20 stories high. Her legs started shaking as she climbed up. After resting for a while, Jiang Yue climbed onto the rooftop, wanting to see what the city was like.
