After organizing the books, I realized there are quite a few different kinds. It seems I can be bolder in the future and learn a few skills so that I can have something to say when others ask, since I learned them on my own.
After staying inside for a while, her friends asked her to go out and play. There were a few other children in the courtyard who were about her age. It was almost dark in the afternoon, and it was still very cold in the middle of winter. The group didn't go far. They played in Jiang Yue's room for a while, and when Jiang Ze got sleepy and wanted to go to sleep, they all left and went home.
The next morning, the weather was still quite cold in January, but people started getting up to go to work.
Jiang's mother got up early, and there weren't many people in the toilet. After washing up, she started cooking. When the food was almost ready, Jiang's father and eldest brother woke up. Jiang Yue and Jiang Ze didn't have to go to work, so they could sleep a little longer. Jiang's mother would put the food in the pot, but today was the day the female lead's mother-in-law was reborn, and Jiang Yue wanted to see it, so she woke up early.
Jiang's mother was quite surprised to see Jiang Yue awake, as she had been sleeping until after 10 a.m. since graduation. Jiang's father, hearing Jiang's mother scolding Jiang Yue, quickly said, "She's up now, isn't she? She'll get used to it after a few days of work and start waking up earlier."
"Yes, Mom, Xiaoyue will be a worker soon. Don't always treat her like a child and scold her all the time."
"Hehe." Jiang Yue was squatting there brushing her teeth, giggling foolishly. Her brother, Jiang Jianguo, came over and patted Jiang Yue's head. This silly little sister of hers.
Watching Jiang Yue brush her teeth so slowly, Jiang's mother, with her impatient nature, felt uncomfortable again. With a frown and a hand on her hip, Jiang Yue quickly sped up, seemingly because she wouldn't be able to see the scene firsthand.
After brushing my teeth, I rushed back inside. My father and older brother were already eating: millet porridge, multigrain steamed buns, and two eggs. My father and older brother had done a lot of work, and the eggs were to help them recover.
After peeling the egg, Jiang's father handed half to Jiang Yue. Jiang Yue picked up the porridge and shook her head, saying she didn't want it. Her brother, Jiang Jianguo, pushed his father's arm back and stuffed his own egg yolk into Jiang Yue's bowl, saying, "Dad, you eat yours, I'll give the yolk to Yue."
"Thank you, brother. You don't need to give it to me next time. You and Dad can keep it for yourselves."
“It’s okay, eating one less egg won’t make a difference. You love them, right? When I get my salary, I’ll ask Mom to buy more next month.”
"Alright, I'll cook an extra one tomorrow so the two siblings can share it and stop them from having to pass it around."
During dinner, Jiang's mother talked about household chores, what items were running low and needed to be bought, and how much food was left. Jiang's father, eating a steamed bun, said to Jiang's mother, "You're in charge of household matters. Buy whatever you need. If it's inconvenient for you to go alone, Xiaoyue can go with you. You can also wait until Jianguo and I get off work. If something is difficult, I'll think of a solution. Don't get anxious or stressed."
Just as we were about to eat, a loud shout came from the courtyard: "Ah~!!!"
Then came the anxious voices of the Zhao family: "Old woman! Mother! What happened? Who threw the water?! Are they trying to kill me?!"
"Quick! Help your mother up!"
"Dad, should we go to the hospital?!"
The four looked at each other, and Jiang Yue picked up the porridge and ran out of the house. When her parents came out, Jiang Yue was already in the crowd. When her mother came over, the protagonist's mother-in-law, Wang Dongmei, was saying, "I don't know which bastard poured water at my doorstep!"
"Mom, it looks like you spilled this water." This is what the female lead's brother-in-law said.
As soon as she said this, everyone around quieted down. After a moment, Wang Dongmei waved her hand and said, "It's alright, it's alright. Everyone go home. Those who need to go to work, hurry up and get to work, don't be late." After saying that, she went inside, perhaps because she was embarrassed to face everyone.
Seeing that there was no point in watching, Jiang Yue took her porridge and went home. As expected, she was nagged by her mother for a while. Jiang Yue gulped down the porridge and said, "Mom, I'm done eating. I'm going to the bathroom."
When Jiang Yue got to the toilet, she remembered her first life. Back then, in the orphanage, there were toilets like this. It was okay in winter, but in summer, going to the toilet was incredibly uncomfortable. After she finished using the toilet, she ran into the female lead who was also using the toilet. The two were not familiar with each other and she didn't remember Jiang Yue. She just nodded without saying anything and that was it.
When Jiang Yue got home, her father and older brother had already left. Her mother was cleaning the house, and Jiang Yue helped with the cleaning. After she finished, Jiang Yue found the registration documents, as she was going to report to the waste recycling station today.
"Didn't we say that your dad would go with you in a few days?"
"I thought about it and realized it's not necessary. I'll just check in; my dad doesn't need to come with me."
"Why don't you let your dad go with you? I don't think you're reliable."
"Don't worry, there's still Uncle Zhao. He can't make me suffer in his territory."
"Then bring all the documents. When you get there, be careful what you say. In front of others, call him Uncle Zhao or Station Chief. When you're alone, just call him Uncle Zhao."
"Okay, Mom!"
She went back inside to change her clothes, slung her backpack with the documents over her shoulder, and took the bus to the recycling station. It took half an hour to get there by bus, and it would be faster if she had a bicycle, but unfortunately, Jiang Yue's family didn't have any bicycle tickets, so her father and older brother always took the bus.
When we arrived, the recycling station was in a large, secluded courtyard. Several human-powered tricycles were coming and going, with people pushing them from behind. Some people were carrying sacks in, and I wondered what they contained. These days, there shouldn't be so much garbage.
After entering, Jiang Yue greeted the gatekeeper. The courtyard was quite large, with all sorts of garbage piled up inside. There was a shed at the far north end, filled with books. Jiang Yue looked around and then walked east. There were several rooms there, which seemed to be used as offices.
Upon approaching, Jiang Yue saw three rooms. The innermost room had a sign that read "Accountant's Office," which would be Jiang Yue's future workplace. The middle room had a sign that read "Station Master's Office," and the outermost room had several people inside, seemingly chatting.
After glancing at Jiang Yue, Zhao knocked on the door of the stationmaster's office. Upon hearing "Come in," Jiang Yue pushed open the door and went inside. Stationmaster Zhao saw Jiang Yue and quickly asked her to sit down: "Why did you come alone? Your father isn't with you."
"Uncle Zhao, I just wanted to challenge myself, so I came here on my own."
Station Master Zhao smiled and said, "Xiaoyue is very brave. Come on, fill out this form first, and I'll get the paperwork done for you."
Jiang Yue took it and saw that it was just some basic information. She filled it out in no time. Station Chief Zhao took it and looked at it: "Your handwriting is not bad."
"Hehe, that's about all the advantages it has."
"Let's go to Uncle Zhao's house for dinner this weekend. Your aunt misses you all. Let's bring Xiaoze along too."
"OK."
Uncle Zhao's real name is Zhao Hongjun. Just like his name, he joined the army very early. After retiring from the army, he first became a policeman. Later, he was seriously injured while arresting enemy agents. If it weren't for Jiang's father passing by and rescuing him, he would have died. After that, he could no longer go out on fieldwork. At that time, the police station wanted to keep him as an administrative staff member, but he was unwilling and came to the scrap metal recycling station as the station manager.
