Just as I put the fish into the pot, my father and older brother came back. My sister-in-law's workplace is a bit far from home, but luckily she has a bicycle, so she arrived just in time.
After dinner, I listened to the radio for a while. There were quite a few more people coming to the house today because word had spread that my family had a radio. The Jiang family didn't say that Jiang Yue bought it, but that my sister-in-law brought it from home. Otherwise, people would think it was easy to get one, and Jiang Yue didn't have the ability to get one for everyone.
After listening for a while, Jiang's mother started to shoo people away. They had to go to work tomorrow, and she couldn't let them affect their work. After they left, Jiang Yue went back to her room. She wasn't sleepy yet, so she read a book for a while before going to sleep. She had slept a bit too much this morning.
The next morning, when Jiang Yue got up, her mother wasn't there. She asked her father, who said that he had gone to pick wild vegetables with Aunt Wang.
"What should we do about Xiaoze?"
"Your sister-in-law is off today; she's at home keeping an eye on things."
"oh oh."
Now that there were people at home, Jiang Yue didn't need to worry. She packed her small bag and set off. After arriving at the station, she mailed the package for Sister Zhang. Ever since Sister Zhang joined the army, the two had been exchanging things. Sister Zhang would give her some seafood, and she would send Sister Zhang some cured meat, sausages, and chicken. Their relationship had never stopped. Jiang Yue even told her about Sister Zhang's in-laws' situation.
As for how Jiang Yue found out, a colleague lived next door to her and mentioned it during a casual chat. After sending the package and returning to the station, she thought she could slack off again today since there was nothing to do, but around 10 a.m., the superiors came to inspect.
Fortunately, Uncle Zhao's management was always very good, and there were no unclear or ambiguous things in the accounts. He remembered every single item very clearly, so when they asked to take the account book away, Jiang Yue cooperated and handed over the neatly organized account book to them.
Afterwards, the stationmaster led the leaders on a tour of the station. At noon, they ate lunch in the canteen. Since they hadn't been notified in advance, the meal consisted of the same three dishes: cabbage, radish, and potatoes. Jiang Yue noticed that the accountant, like him, didn't really like the food. But the leaders, being leaders, seemed to enjoy their meal, even though it was unclear whether they liked it or not.
After finishing their meal, the person left. After seeing them off, Uncle Zhao asked Jiang Yue if there were any problems. Jiang Yue shook her head and said, "Don't worry, I just sorted out the accounts a while ago, and they are very clear."
"That's good. I didn't understand what this meant. Why was there suddenly such a large-scale inspection? Sigh~"
"Who knows?"
After leaving the office, Jiang Yue heard Station Chief Zhao making a phone call next to her, probably inquiring about something. This had nothing to do with Jiang Yue, so she took out her magic book and started reading. It had been a while since she had studied, so she decided to catch up.
After finishing learning a knowledge point, I checked the time and it was already past 3 pm. After drinking a cup of tea, I called out to Bai Ze to ask about the progress. The progress of organizing was less than 10%. I'll have to wait and see.
Today, Jiang Yue had to wait for people to come and collect the supplies from the station, so she had to coordinate with them. As a result, she got off work much later than usual. When she finished, Jiang Yue checked the time and it was already past nine o'clock at night. By the time she got home, it was already ten o'clock at night. Everyone else was already asleep, but her mother was still waiting for her to have dinner.
After taking a sip of hot water, she gave the dried seafood to Aunt Jiang. For dinner, she ate cornbread, millet porridge, and cold dandelion salad. After dinner, she went back to her room to sleep, where Aunt Jiang had already made up her bed.
The next morning at six o'clock.
Jiang Yue kept yawning after getting up. She hadn't slept during the day and had gone to bed late the night before, so she was extremely sleepy. When she went to eat after washing her face, she found that her mother had bought tofu pudding and large meat buns.
"Mom, why did you suddenly decide to buy tofu pudding today?"
"Just eat your food, why ask so many questions?"
"oh."
After finishing breakfast, Jiang Yue queued up to use the restroom before heading back to the station. Once there, she noticed a more serious atmosphere; everyone seemed less casual and more focused. After parking her bicycle, she returned to her office, grabbed a coal briquette, lit a fire, and boiled water, preparing to begin her workday.
I asked around and found out why the atmosphere was so strange today. Someone who knew told Jiang Yue in private that someone at another recycling station had been caught cheating and embezzling money. I heard that the person was taken away on the spot. Also, some recycling stations had lax management and their workers were undisciplined. The entire station was criticized and educated and their eligibility for commendation was revoked.
"Oh, no wonder something's not quite right today."
"That's right, Accountant Jiang, you should also be careful. I heard that several accountants have been taken away."
"Haha, I'm not afraid. There's nothing crooked or evil going on in our station. If you're upright, you have nothing to fear."
"That's true, but we still need to be careful, lest someone find fault with us."
"Okay, thank you, I've got it."
After finishing her business, Jiang Yue poured herself a glass of water, stretched a bit, and continued her studies. At lunchtime, there was a new dish of braised tofu with scallions. The dish tasted pretty good; it was arguably the best dish in the cafeteria. If the cafeteria weren't so small and there were only a few people serving food, Jiang Yue would have thought they had changed chefs.
A few more days passed, and it was time for Jiang Yue to have her day off. Since Jiang Yue was the only accountant at the station, she had to pay tomorrow's wages in advance. As was the custom, everyone lined up voluntarily. After finishing, Jiang Yue went fishing and caught three fish.
After getting home, we handed the fish over to Aunt Jiang to prepare. Jiang Yue could cook whatever they wanted to eat later. In the end, everyone chose a carp stew with tofu. It seems like they were able to buy tofu today; was it a bulk supply?
After dinner, the family went to the public bathhouse for a shower. It had been a while since they'd had a proper bath. Before showering, Jiang Yue also got her hair cut into a short, neat style, which made her look much more capable and capable. Jiang's mother initially disagreed, as her braids were perfectly fine, but after the haircut, seeing that her looks hadn't declined but rather improved, she had no objections.
After taking a shower, the family went home. Jiang's mother asked everyone to change the sheets. She felt it would be a waste not to change the sheets after taking a shower. After washing the sheets, it was already late, and everyone went to bed. Before going to sleep, Jiang Yue told her mother not to wake her up for breakfast the next morning, as she planned to sleep until she woke up naturally.
Jiang Yue didn't wake up until after 11 o'clock. The little kid came over and said, "Shame on you, you lazy pig!" Jiang Yue didn't tolerate him. She grabbed him and tickled him. Jiang's mother heard the noise and took the child away, telling her to get up quickly or the food would get cold.
Today's breakfast consisted of large meat buns, mixed grain porridge, eggs, and pickled vegetables. After finishing breakfast, Jiang Yue washed the dishes and ate. Then, she moved a small stool and mingled with the crowd to listen to people gossiping for a while, but her mother chased her away shortly afterward.
