Aunt Fang returned the next day at noon. Jiang Yue had already used the day and a half to stock up on almost all the items on the list. Because Jiang Yue's space was limited, she bought more food and water than other items. She bought a few more small items and only one or two larger items, keeping one as a spare.
Jiang Yue ate Aunt Fang's cooking for lunch today. She couldn't just stay home and study every day for the next two months while waiting for school to start. She had to find something to do. Jiang Yue thought about it all afternoon and decided to open a medicinal herb shop so she could use the herbs herself in the future. A few days ago, when she went to the Chen family, it seemed that they were also in the medicinal herb business. Just a few days ago, Jiang Yue saw a pretty big shop for sale while she was shopping.
Jiang Yue made up her mind and got to work. She went out, found a rickshaw, gave them the address, and they took off. After walking for more than ten minutes, they arrived at the destination. After getting off the rickshaw, Jiang Yue went over and saw that the door was still closed. There was a phone number written on it. Jiang Yue went to the shop next door to answer the phone and contacted the shop owner: "Hello, who is this?"
Jiang Yue opened the door and asked directly, "Hello, is the shop on Sibei Road for sale?"
"No, are you interested in buying?" The voice from the other end of the line sounded hesitant. Jiang Yue's voice didn't sound like someone who wanted to buy the shop; she was too young.
"Yes, I'm at the store entrance now. Do you have time? I'd like to go in and take a look."
"Okay, wait a moment, I'll be there soon."
Jiang Yue sat in a nearby coffee shop for a while, and then saw a car stop. A man in his forties got out of the car and was leaning on a cane. Jiang Yue also came out of the coffee shop and walked towards the man. When Jiang Yue got closer, the man extended his hand: "Hello, are you here to buy the shop?" The man was a little skeptical because Jiang Yue looked so young.
Jiang Yue reached out and gently shook his hand: "Jiang Yue. Let's open the door and take a look first."
"The charter." The other party also felt that since they had come, they might as well take a look.
The man took out his key, unlocked the door, and opened it. The space was quite large, with many empty shelves. At this moment, Boss Zhang spoke up, mentioning the size of the shop and that he used to run a department store. Now, his whole family was moving to Hong Kong, so he wanted to sell the shop. Because of its excellent location and high price, many people had inquired about it, but the inquiries were put on hold because they couldn't agree on the price.
“Many people are waiting for me to leave Shanghai so they can get a bargain, but I still have a few friends here. I’m not in a rush to sell it to them.” Boss Zhang said meaningfully, fearing that Jiang Yue would try to drive down the price again.
Jiang Yue looked around and found that the space and location were fine, and there were no pharmacies nearby. She then asked the owner how much he wanted for the property. Mr. Zhang gave her a price: "Miss Jiang, you can ask around. My price is normal, even lower than the average price. I can't lower the price any further. The furniture and shelves in the store are all free."
Jiang Yue had inquired about the prices at several nearby shops beforehand, and they were indeed quite normal. After thinking for a moment, Jiang Yue said, "Boss Zhang, I can accept the price. I hope buying this won't affect me since you haven't been involved in any disputes."
"No! Miss Jiang, you can ask me about my business. I have a good reputation in Shanghai. I sold a lot of properties this month. Besides the one you're looking at, I've also sold many other shops. I can give you a few addresses so you can go and take a look. My daughter is going to university in Hong Kong, and with things not going well in China, our whole family is planning to immigrate."
Jiang Yue finally decided to buy it and asked Mr. Zhang whether she wanted US dollars or gold bars. Mr. Zhang chose US dollars and even rounded down the price to a whole number. After they agreed on the terms, they went to complete the transfer. When they went to complete the transfer, the staff said, "Mr. Zhang, you're here again."
After the transfer was completed, Boss Zhang took Jiang Yue to the bank and transferred the money to his account on the spot. Seeing how readily Jiang Yue agreed, Boss Zhang treated her to a meal afterward, told her about the character of several shops in the vicinity, and what to do if someone caused trouble. He then inquired about Jiang Yue's background, to which Jiang Yue only said that she was a relative of the Chen family.
Mr. Zhang blinked to indicate that he understood. Since there was this connection, he should be able to run the store steadily. When he learned that Jiang Yue wanted to open a pharmacy, he asked about Jiang Yue's suppliers. When he learned that the Western medicine had not yet been secured, Mr. Zhang said, "Western medicine is not easy to obtain. In the whole of Shanghai, unless you have connections with foreigners or hospitals, you basically won't get access to the goods that foreign companies bring back."
"Isn't there any other way?"
"No, and Western medicine is strictly controlled. I suggest you just open a Chinese medicine shop and find a doctor to act as a consultant. Just selling medicine isn't enough. You're thinking too simply. If you can't even treat patients, who are you going to sell to?"
"Do you expect patients to treat themselves and prescribe their own medicine?" Boss Zhang said a few more words to Jiang Yue, who was young and spent money lavishly (but was a bit naive). Whether Jiang Yue listened or not was up to her.
After dinner, Boss Zhang took Jiang Yue home. Once home, Jiang Yue told Aunt Fang that she wanted to take a bath. After taking a bath, before going to bed, Jiang Yue felt that she had acted a bit childishly. There was nothing she could do about it; in her previous life, she had been an office worker and had never done these things before. Since she had already started doing them, she would just learn slowly.
The next morning, after breakfast, Jiang Yue arrived at the shop. After entering, she moved several shelves into the space, arranged them neatly, and placed them on the shelves according to their categories. The space became much tidier at once.
There is a phone in the shop that can be used to make calls for now, but Jiang Yue will need to go to the telephone company to change it later.
Jiang Yue called the decoration company, told them the address of the shop and that she needed to renovate it, and asked them to send a few people over to take a look.
After making the call, Jiang Yue waited for the renovation workers to arrive and told them she wanted to open a pharmacy. The workers explained the renovation plan to Jiang Yue and drew a sketch for her. Jiang Yue looked at it and said it was acceptable.
Afterwards, we discussed the price and time of the renovation. The other party said that the basic renovation would be completed quickly, but installing the medicine cabinet might take a little longer.
The price quoted was significantly lower than the price Jiang Yue had consulted with Boss Zhang yesterday, and Jiang Yue nodded in agreement.
After paying the deposit, the other party called the company to start communicating. Jiang Yue handed over the keys to the other party and left her home phone number, saying they would call her when the renovation was complete.
After finishing her business at the shop, Jiang Yue went to Chen Tianxiang's business. After finding him, she told him about opening a pharmacy and wanted to buy goods from him. He readily agreed and said he would give Jiang Yue a good price. After chatting for a while, Jiang Yue said goodbye.
