After organizing her travelogue, Jiang Yue decided to practice her calligraphy. It had been a while since she had practiced, and she was itching to do so. After practicing for a while, she wasn't particularly satisfied with the final product, so she destroyed all of them. Looking at the time, she realized it was quite late and she was a little hungry. She then decided to make a famous internet dish: pickled vegetables with tofu.
This dish didn't take much time to prepare. I ate a piece of tofu and it was delicious. Then I realized something was missing. Oh right, I was missing some wine. Anyway, I don't have to work tomorrow, so a little bit won't hurt. I took a small sip, and wow, this tastes just right.
After eating and drinking her fill, she handed the puppet over to clean up and ran back to her room to sleep. She didn't wake up until noon the next day. She was too lazy to move today and spent the whole day lying in bed watching dramas.
The next morning, Jiang Yue went to school full of energy. After finishing her work for the day, she met up with her colleagues for lunch. After lunch, they went home. When she got to her doorstep, there were people selling clothes at a stall. There were quite a few people looking at the clothes. Jiang Yue glanced at them and left. She already had more clothes than she could wear.
I stayed home for a while and got bored, so I changed my clothes and went out for a walk. I played chess with an old man for a while, but I was kicked off because I won too many times. Afterwards, I went over to the old ladies' area and listened to their gossip for a long time. It was all sorts of random gossip, and it wasn't just baseless rumors; it was completely fabricated.
After staying for a while, she got bored and went home. After playing for a bit, she got a little hungry, so she took some meat from the Wizard Tower and made a barbecue. She had to go to class tomorrow, so she drank some fruit wine. This stuff doesn't make you drunk and tastes good, which goes perfectly with the barbecue. Of course, Jiang Yue pretended not to hear the cursing outside. Who told her to be bothered by the smell?
To avoid gaining weight, Jiang Yue got up early the next morning to go for a run and get some exercise. Otherwise, she wouldn't have the energy to go out and play, and she wouldn't be able to climb a mountain without having to rest halfway. Although the weather wasn't too hot in the morning, she still sweated a lot while running. She decided to take a shower before going to school.
I was supposed to leave work after class today, but my supervisor stopped me at the last minute. There's a lecture in a few days by a big name in the industry, and the department head wants Jiang Yue to be in charge. So they're asking for Jiang Yue's opinion. Of course, Jiang Yue has no objection; this is no problem for her.
After working hard for half a month, the event was finally completed. The students participated enthusiastically, and the lecture was successfully completed. Everything was under control. After the event, the school gave Jiang Yue a day off. Jiang Yue took a day off to visit her little glutton, but when she arrived, she found that the little glutton was not home. She asked Yao's parents and learned that the couple had taken the child to her grandparents' house in Shanghai.
When asked when they left, Yao's mother said it was just a few days ago. Because Wang Liang's father was hospitalized, the couple left in a hurry. They still don't know the situation. Yao's mother is worried and doesn't know what's going on over there. They haven't even sent a telegram, let alone a phone call.
"It's okay, I'll go back and call them to ask. I remember I still have their phone number."
"Oh, Xiaoyue, thank you for your trouble."
After leaving Yao Ling's house, Jiang Yue returned home and found the phone number for Wang Liang's hometown. She called, but unfortunately, no one was home. The person on the other end of the line said they had all gone to the hospital. Jiang Yue could only ask the person on the other end to pass on the message that they would call Yao's mother back home to let her know they were safe.
Since she couldn't get in touch with them, Jiang Yue wasn't worried. Given Yao Ling and Wang Liang's current abilities, they probably had people following them around, so even if something happened, they wouldn't be able to reach Jiang Yue unless she wanted to expose her identity. But Jiang Yue had no connection with Wang Liang's parents, so there was absolutely no need for that.
After a few busy days, Jiang Yue treated herself as usual. She spent a lot of time making twice-cooked pork, Mapo tofu, and boiled fish. She didn't make more than three dishes, which was enough for her to eat for a day. She didn't drink alcohol, but took a bottle of Coke from her space. It tasted pretty good chilled. She was running low on Coke and needed to restock when she had time.
Before we could even clean up after dinner, an unexpected person came into the house: "Xiao Yan? You're back? Come and sit down, have you eaten?"
"Sister Xiaoyue, I've already eaten. I came back today to check on everyone."
"Come, come, sit down first. Look, I haven't tidied up yet. Let me pour you a cup of tea first."
"Sister Xiaoyue, don't bother, I'm not thirsty."
"Well, it's been five or six years since I last saw you. Looks like you're doing well with your second uncle!"
"Yes, my second uncle treats me very well; he raises me like his own daughter."
Xiao Yan's story is a long one. After her parents divorced, she lived with her father. Her stepmother treated her very badly, and her biological mother didn't care about her either. Later, her stepmother became more and more outrageous. Once, Xiao Yan almost got into trouble, and the neighbors took her to the neighborhood committee.
Originally, I wanted my stepmother to tone it down a bit, but it caused quite a stir. My biological father and stepmother almost divorced again because of it. She didn't say she didn't want to take care of things, but she just couldn't manage it all. You can't do anything about it. You can't say it's illegal, but she feeds and cares for you. She treats people with indifference and emotional abuse. What can you do about it?
In the end, the neighborhood committee could only contact other relatives to see if anyone else was able to raise the child. They contacted the biological mother, but she didn't care. The biological mother was extremely sexist and preferred boys to girls. If it were a boy, she would have taken him away long ago.
Finally, they contacted Xiaoyan's second uncle. After learning about the situation, her second uncle took Xiaoyan back to raise her. He is a responsible person. The neighborhood committee had visited her a couple of years ago, and Jiang Yue had also visited her once or twice. He genuinely cared about the child, so they stopped paying attention to her.
"That's good. By the way, is there something you need to do when you come back this time? If so, tell me."
"It's alright, Sister Yue. My second uncle recently made some money and moved to Beijing. He said it would be more convenient for me to go to school in the city. Now that I'm in Beijing, how could I not come and see everyone? I'm so grateful for everyone's care when I was a child."
"Oh, I see. So where are you going to school now?"
"In the First Middle School."
"No. 1 Middle School? Then you don't need to change to a good school. I was thinking of changing you to the affiliated middle school if you wanted to go to a less desirable school. I happen to know someone there."
After chatting for a while, Xiao Yan was about to say goodbye. She had to visit other places and then go home. Jiang Yue asked her to come over when she went home, saying that she had a lot of high school study notes and she would give her a copy: "Remember, these aren't anything valuable. They are all great study materials that will be very useful to you."
"Okay, Sister Xiaoyue, I've got it."
After Xiao Yan's little incident, life returned to normal. A few days later, Yao's mother called Jiang Yue to let her know that everything was going well and that she would be back in a few days. Yao's mother invited Jiang Yue to come over for dinner if she wasn't busy, and Jiang Yue naturally agreed.
A few months later, Jiang Yue got a promotion and her salary increased, but she also had a lot more work to do. She wished she hadn't been promoted.
