Chapter 6: A Bystander in the World of Espionage during the Republic of China

After finishing the fruit, Aunt Fang asked Jiang Yue if she needed to cook dinner. Jiang Yue said she would start cooking in an hour. After saying that, she went upstairs to read. She picked up a few history books and looked at them. They were basically the same as the history that Jiang Yue knew. Jiang Yue looked at the bookshelf and saw that there were also books of the Four Books and Five Classics. Jiang Yue thought about it and added the goal of buying a set of the Four Books and Five Classics to her stockpiling list, just in case she needed them if she went to ancient times.

She took out a piece of paper from her spatial storage, which was covered with a dense list of items. These were all items that Jiang Yue had recently written down, whatever came to mind. The items marked with checkmarks were things she had already prepared, otherwise she wouldn't even know what she had after a while.

Jiang Yue wrote down the Four Books and Five Classics on the list, then suddenly realized that medical conditions in ancient times might have been poor, and some commonly used medicines and medical tools would also be essential. She added some common Western medicines and simple medical devices to the list, such as thermometers, bandages, and disinfectant.

After writing the list, Jiang Yue nodded in satisfaction. Once she had collected everything on the list, her survival skills would surely increase significantly.

"Miss, dinner is ready."

While Jiang Yue was reading, she heard Aunt Fang calling her to eat. She looked at her books and realized she had been reading for over an hour. Jiang Yue tidied her desk and went downstairs. When she arrived in the living room, Aunt Fang had already set the table. While Jiang Yue was eating, Aunt Fang told her something: "Miss, the driver has already returned to the Chen family. Madam Chen called and asked me to tell you that you can call her if you need the driver."

Jiang Yue nodded to indicate that she understood. She would be satisfied if they could use it for a few days. The Chen family only had two cars and two drivers. Chen Tianxiang needed to use them every day for work, and the rest of the Chen family also needed to use them. In particular, Chen Xin had also returned home and needed to take a car when going out, so it was normal for her to go back.

After finishing her meal, Jiang Yue went to read again. After reading for a while, she went to sleep.

The next morning, after breakfast, Aunt Fang said, "Miss, I want to go home to tell my family about my current situation. I'll be back around noon."

"Aunt Fang, you can come back before noon tomorrow. I'll be eating out these next couple of days, it'll be fine." Jiang Yue thought that since no one was home, she could stock up on some supplies.

Aunt Fang thanked her profusely and went home after packing her things. Jiang Yue found a rickshaw and took her to the bookstore. Once there, Jiang Yue asked the bookstore owner to find her a set of the Four Books and Five Classics, and also bought the Three Character Classic, the Common People's Surnames, and the Thousand Character Classic. The owner also recommended a book on the Shuowen Jiezi (a dictionary of Chinese characters).

Bookstores don't deliver to your door these days, so Jiang Yue found a secluded spot and put it in her spatial storage. There are no security cameras around, so it's perfectly safe as long as no one sees it.

She bought a box to use as a first-aid kit, and went to the hospital to ask the nurses if she could buy some common household medicines. The nurses recommended a lot of medicines, and Jiang Yue felt that they were all useful, so she bought them. She also bought a thermometer, iodine alcohol, and gauze.

Before leaving, I saw penicillin. The name seemed familiar. I thought about it and realized that this drug was often seen in TV dramas. Since the regulations aren't very strict now, Jiang Yue gave me some extra money and I bought five boxes. The nurse also gave me some injection and infusion equipment.

Using the same formula, I found a corner and put it into my spatial storage. Suddenly, I realized that this nicillin was just penicillin, no wonder it sounded familiar.

I went into each of the pastry shops I passed and bought a little bit. I bought quite a lot along the way and put it all in my storage space so I can take it out and eat it when I don't have time to cook.

Finally, she found a grocery store far from home and bought some vegetables, then bought several large bags of toilet paper. She found two rickshaws, one to carry the goods and the other to carry her home. After arriving home, Jiang Yue opened the front door, and the rickshaw driver helped her put the things in the living room and left. Jiang Yue went out, closed the front door, and returned to the living room to put the things into her spatial storage.

The space is a mess. I need to figure out how to make some shelves and a Chinese medicine cabinet. I'll fill it with medicine and put it in the space, but there's no rush. I can put it in when I open my shop and leave this world.

After packing her things, Jiang Yue was also hungry. She grabbed two food containers and went out. They were both three-tiered, and the plates were already set out. None of her family members knew how to do this. Nowadays, when you go to a restaurant to get takeout, you have to bring your own plates. The first time Jiang Yue didn't know this, she used the restaurant's plates. Later, Jiang Yue put hundreds of plates into her space.

Jiang Yue went to her usual restaurant, asked the waiter to cook a few home-style dishes, and ordered two more for herself. After finishing the meal, she packed up the leftovers, paid the bill, and left with the food box. On the way, she quietly transferred to her spatial dimension. She then went to a restaurant far from her home, ordered a few signature dishes from the waiter, and packed them up to take away. Gradually, she packed up twenty or thirty dishes. Seeing that the food in her spatial dimension was almost gone for the day, she carried the empty food box home.

I went home for a nap at noon, and then went shopping again in the afternoon. I bought some of the small items on my list, such as a lighter and a flint and steel, and some candles. I also found a general store and bought some small tools like rope and scissors.

Looking at the packing list, I've bought most of the items. The only thing missing is a weapon for self-defense. I don't have a single knife, I have two small pistols but I don't know how to use them, and I don't have any armor either. I wonder if there's anything like a gold-threaded soft armor.

Passing by a shoe shop, which mostly sold cloth shoes, Jiang Yue looked at them and bought several pairs of each size. She then asked the shopkeeper, "Hello, do you only have cloth shoes in your shop? Don't you have any other types of shoes?"

"Please, if you want to buy leather shoes, you should go to some large trading companies. Small shops like ours don't sell them, and most people can't afford them."

After listening to the shopkeeper, Jiang Yue realized she had fallen into a misunderstanding. She then asked for the location of the nearby Grand Ocean Store. The shopkeeper said there was a department store not far away that had everything, and she could buy whatever she wanted there.

After thanking the shopkeeper, Jiang Yue took the shoes and left. There was a fabric shop next door. Inside, there were all kinds of fabrics. Jiang Yue looked around and picked out more than a dozen bolts, which was considered a very big customer. The shopkeeper said he would deliver them right away. Jiang Yue paid a deposit, left her home address, and left.

Seeing the bicycle shop, Jiang Yue realized that she didn't have any means of transportation. Space was limited, and she couldn't fit a car in the car. She didn't think she had a motorcycle yet, as she had never seen one. Bicycles didn't seem to be very useful, so she decided to wait and see.

After wandering around for a while, it was already 5 pm. Time flies! I found a car and went home.

After returning home, Jiang Yue put her things into her spatial storage and didn't plan to go out again. She took out a dish from her spatial storage and ate a bite. After the fabric was delivered, Jiang Yue paid for it and put it into her spatial storage. She read a book for a while and then went to sleep.
