Consort Shu and the Emperor sat facing each other on stone benches in the courtyard.
The emperor's face remained expressionless as he silently admired the moon in the sky.
"Your Majesty, the moonlight is beautiful tonight," Consort Shu said softly, as she filled the emperor's wine cup.
The emperor replied calmly, "Hmm."
He kept replaying that night in his mind, when he saw Gu Jiangli's stunning figure under the soft moonlight in Yilan Palace.
From then on, no woman's appearance could catch his eye anymore.
So much so that he's not in the mood to listen to Consort Shu anymore.
If it weren't for this special day, he probably wouldn't have come to Chengen Palace to see Consort Shu.
Consort Shu put down her wine cup and saw the emperor looking distracted.
The resentment in my heart began to spread again.
"On this special day, Your Majesty still refuses to look at me. Is it because you are still angry with me?"
The emperor turned around and said slowly:
"I am not angry, but I am somewhat disappointed. Consort Shu, you already have so much, yet you are still arguing with someone who has been severely punished. It is unbecoming of a noble consort."
Consort Shu forced a smile onto her face. "Yes, Your Majesty, I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have yelled at Consort Xian because of what happened two years ago."
Seeing the change in Consort Shu's attitude, the Emperor's expression softened considerably.
"It's good that you understand. Consort Xian did suffer a lot during her imprisonment, and the punishment she received was enough to make up for the harm you suffered."
The Emperor's words stung Consort Shu like needles.
His Majesty no longer believes that he himself has been harmed.
Consort Shu gritted her teeth, "Yes, Your Majesty, I am here today to tell you that I have completely let go of the past and will never target Consort Xian again. I will serve Your Majesty well together with her."
Only then did a smile appear on the emperor's face. "Only if you think this way can I prove that I did not misjudge you before."
"Your Majesty, I know that I should make you happy, not do anything that would hurt you."
