As soon as I reached the door, I heard Old Madam Xie's angry and resolute voice:
"Absolutely not! I've already been incredibly generous by agreeing to your request to make Liu your principal wife! Even if the sky were to fall, I would never agree to your demand today!"
"Mother!" General Xie's voice was anxious. "Can you just stand by and watch a young child be executed by the princess?"
"What does it have to do with me? Is Liu Baoxuan surnamed Xie? What does it have to do with the Xie family? If he wants to die, let him die, but let him die somewhere far away! I'm not worried about his dirty blood soiling the threshold of my Xie family!"
Gu Jiangli listened to the back-and-forth conversation between the two, seemingly understanding but also not quite.
She opened her eyes wide and asked Xie Shiyan:
Who is Liu Baoxuan?
Xie Shiyan looked disgusted when he heard the name. "Liu's younger brother. She found him after he was lost for many years in a pile of beggars after she became General Xie's legal wife."
"Judging from the general's expression, he seems to dislike him very much?"
Xie Shiyan made no attempt to hide the disdain on his face. "I don't like anything related to the Liu family."
At this point, he added, "He once stole a bracelet from my mother's room and sold it outside, almost stealing all the jewelry from my mother's dressing case."
"It took a lot of money to redeem it later."
Gu Jiangli's anger intensified.
Neither of the Liu siblings is a good person.
"Liu Baoxuan actually stole things from your dead mother's room. Isn't he afraid of being struck by lightning?" Gu Jiangli complained.
Xie Shiyan grinned maliciously: "I'm used to petty theft. If I hadn't cut off my hand, I wouldn't have been able to change these habits."
Gu Jiangli angrily entered the house.
They ignored the two elders inside who were still talking angrily.
When Madam Xie and General Xie saw the two of them, they both tacitly stopped talking.
Gu Jiangli gave a simple bow to Madam Xie, then found a chair and plopped down, showing no intention of giving General Xie any face.
Xie Shiyan sat beside her, just like her.
Before General Xie could point out their lack of manners, Gu Jiangli spoke first.
"General Xie, have you properly apologized to the princess?"
