Beauty?
Gu Jiangli walked into the bronze mirror with questions in her mind.
Although she had mentally prepared herself to be beautiful, the reflection in the bronze mirror still made her gasp for breath!
This is a face that both men and women would find breathtakingly beautiful!
With an oval face, willow-leaf eyebrows, and phoenix eyes that seem to have a built-in misty effect, she looks incredibly endearing.
She was absolutely radiant!
With no extra adornments and having spent two years in the cold palace with very little time to go out, her skin had become as white and smooth as porcelain, and her beautiful eyes were half-closed, naturally giving her a goddess-like aura.
Absolutely stunning!
It's hard to imagine how the original owner could use such a face to act so arrogantly and talk back to people with her nostrils.
She suddenly realized something: the emperor hadn't executed her even though he knew she was the one who caused him to lose a child, probably because her stunning beauty made him somewhat reluctant to kill her.
After all, no one wants to see a beautiful woman die.
Gu Jiangli looked at herself in the mirror and laughed out loud.
"With such a stunning beauty, how could she not win back the emperor's heart?"
She admired herself in the mirror for a while, and began to make plans in her mind.
As long as she can get a glimpse of the emperor, she is confident that all the hatred and resentment between them will vanish!
Those twenty points were still somewhat useful; she could indeed "cater to his preferences."
Just as she was trying to figure out a way to meet the emperor, the gate outside the courtyard creaked open.
Gu Jiangli turned his head to look and saw that the door had been pushed open a crack from the outside, but it was only a crack.
It is evident that the gate was locked with an iron chain.
Gu Jiangli slowly walked to the door, wanting to see what the person outside wanted to do.
Immediately afterwards, a hand carrying half a bowl of rice was brought in through the crack in the door. On the half bowl of rice were a few grains of pickled vegetables and two pieces of meat bones that looked like they had been gnawed on.
It seems that a palace maid has come specifically to bring her food.
Now she is imprisoned and has no servants by her side; her food is delivered to her by special people.
However, the person who delivered the food didn't seem to like the job.
A palace maid outside the door spoke in an impatient voice: "Consort Gu, today's meal has been delivered. Hurry up and eat! I'll come and get the bowl after an incense stick has burned."
Gu Jiangli picked up the bowl and brought it to her nose for a gentle sniff.
The food was spoiled.
Just as she was about to speak, the palace maid outside the door uttered a vicious threat:
"Consort Gu, I'm warning you, if you haven't finished your rice by the time I come to get your bowl later, just like yesterday, then you can forget about eating tomorrow!"
Without waiting for Gu Jiangli's reply, she hurriedly left outside the door.
Gu Jiangli pursed her lips.
Such vicious treatment makes one wonder if she had some deep-seated grudge against that little palace maid.
Looking at the bowl of spoiled rice, Gu Jiangli couldn't help but feel sorry for the original owner's previous life.
They lost their freedom and went hungry.
Is there anyone more pitiful than Gu Jiangli in this harem?
But upon thinking of this, a strange smile suddenly appeared on Gu Jiangli's lips.
"Pitiful? Pitiful is good, isn't that what the emperor likes?"
A simple plan came to mind.
Her chance to turn her life around might just depend on this bowl of spoiled rice.
The time it takes for an incense stick to burn passes in the blink of an eye. She sat by the door with great interest, waiting for the complaining palace maid to come over.
A loud banging sounded on the door. "Consort Gu! Hurry up and hand over the bowl! What are you doing! Bringing food to a wicked woman like you is already bad luck! Don't waste my time!"
The shrill voice made Gu Jiangli frown.
The system was right; her current situation was indeed such that even a passing palace maid could spit on her.
However, she is not someone to be trifled with.
She gave a mocking smile and said leisurely, "The bowl is on the ground. Just push it open a crack and get it yourself."
Fuling outside the door was somewhat surprised.
Normally, if she were to yell at Gu Jiangli like this, Gu Jiangli would be so angry inside that he would jump up and down and yell back at her before he would stop.
As long as she mentions that Gu Jiangli, the daughter of Hu Benjianju, has gone from being a fourth-rank concubine to a resentful woman in the cold palace, Gu Jiangli's cursing will stop instantly.
She would then be able to hear Gu Jiangli's angry cries.
She even deliberately served Gu Jiangli spoiled food, just to see the satisfying moment when Gu Jiangli had no choice but to bow down to her, a palace maid, to survive.
Bullying Gu Jiangli and trampling on her dignity has almost become her daily source of joy.
After all, as the lowest-ranking palace maid, the only person she could bully was Consort Gu, who was disliked by the emperor.
But Gu Jiangli was surprisingly obedient today, speaking softly and gently, showing no sign of her anger.
Why the sudden change of heart?
Has he resigned himself to his fate?
But if she does that, wouldn't she lose even the last bit of fun she had in toying with Gu Jiangli?
She didn't want that.
After thinking for a moment, he pushed open the door and said loudly:
"Don't think that just because you've changed your personality and become obedient, everything will be fine! Let me tell you, your current status is even lower than that of the lowest palace maid! You should prepare to die alone for the rest of your life!"
After he finished speaking, the door was opened as wide as possible.
Fuling skillfully extended her hand into the doorway.
But instead of touching the bowl, her wrist was held by a hand as white as jade.
Before Fuling could react, she heard Gu Jiangli's gentle voice, but to Fuling, this gentle voice sounded like a ghost.
