The elderly man at the head of the group had a full head of white hair, but he was still full of energy.
Among the crowd, the old man spotted Gu Jiangli at a glance.
He gave her a gentle smile, a warmth from a family member that Gu Jiangli hadn't felt in a long time.
He is the head of the Gu family, and Gu Jiangli's grandfather.
Behind the old woman was a thin, middle-aged woman who was also looking at her with very tender eyes.
Perhaps because of blood ties, Gu Jiangli could recognize her mother at a glance.
This was the first time she had truly met her family.
They share a bond that is invisible to most people; they both understand that the other is on their side.
Their eyes met, and then the head of the Gu family spoke first:
"Gu Zan pays his respects to Your Majesty, wishing Your Majesty ten thousand years of good fortune and peace, and a long and prosperous reign."
The dozen or so people following behind him bowed to the emperor.
The emperor stood up, somewhat puzzled.
"Rise. Are you the head of the Gu family?"
"Indeed, those behind this old minister are all members of the Gu family."
Before the emperor could say anything more, Lady Liu became agitated.
"Your Majesty! Let's examine the evidence first!" Liu felt inexplicably uneasy upon seeing the Gu family members.
Therefore, she urgently wanted the emperor to see the evidence first.
Once the crime is established, no matter how many people from the Gu family come, it won't make a difference!
The way she summoned the emperor greatly displeased him.
Gu Zan, however, remained unhurried and said, "This old minister has already heard about what happened today. Since some people have doubts, let's take this opportunity to clarify things."
"If Your Majesty has any questions after examining the evidence, this old minister will answer them without reservation."
A ruthless glint flashed in Liu's eyes.
Princess Jinghe chimed in from the side, "Father, the Gu family has been out of the public eye for a long time, and today they have come to the main hall. If there is any controversy, it should be investigated clearly. We should grant his wish."
The emperor, his face dark, whispered to Jinghe, "I'll deal with your matter later!"
Her tone was vicious, but Jinghe remained unrestrained, pouting in dissatisfaction, "Father should not be disciplining me, but Gu Jiangli and Xie Shiyan."
The emperor was furious when the Imperial Guards presented their evidence.
"Your Majesty, based on the location indicated by Liu and General Xie, we have indeed found some letters."
Lady Liu was extremely excited: "Your Majesty, please look!"
She peered around eagerly.
The emperor reluctantly opened the box.
There were indeed several letters inside.
He began with a slightly nervous feeling.
Everyone held their breath, and the hall was unusually quiet.
A moment later, Princess Jinghe sneered:
"Father, do you believe me now? Have I said a single wrong word about them?"
The emperor sighed, and then, surprisingly, burst out laughing in anger.
"I've truly had enough of this farce!"
He shouted and threw the letter in his hand away.
The light letter floated down from the air and landed on the ground.
Everyone was eager to stick their heads out and see what was going on.
Jinghe and Liu's letters to the ground are the latest.
They picked up the letter with a puzzled look on their faces.
His expression changed from confusion to shock and fear, and finally turned deathly pale.
"How could this be?" The two asked the same question at the same time.
"How could this be! Jinghe, how many times have you asked this question! What exactly do you want to do!" The emperor's anger finally reached its breaking point.
He was indeed very worried about seeing the contents of the letter that proved Gu Jiangli's guilt.
But the letter was blank, which made him even more annoyed.
Jinghe was the child he doted on and cherished, yet she disappointed him time and time again.
Normally it would be fine, after all, he was an emperor.
But today, in front of so many ministers, he had repeatedly made a fool of himself, and he simply couldn't bear it anymore.
"Father! This can't be real!"
Liu also spoke, her voice trembling:
"Your Majesty, these letters really do contain information! They are densely packed with writing about Gu Jiangli's preparations to draw up defense plans, saying that she will avenge Nanlin! She always remembers her background... It's impossible that she didn't! It's all true! I saw it with my own eyes!"
"Sir! Say something! Didn't you see it with my own eyes?"
General Xie stood there, stunned, staring at the blank letter in disbelief. Then, belatedly realizing what was happening, he looked in Gu Jiangli's direction.
"Sir, please say something!"
With a loud bang, the emperor slammed his hand on the table, interrupting Liu's voice.
"Enough!"
Liu was so frightened that she trembled, her jaw chattering.
She could tell that the emperor was quite angry.
This is different from when he got angry at Princess Jinghe earlier.
No matter how many shameful things Princess Jinghe does, she is still of royal blood.
But she was different...
He just made so many confident statements.
Fear gripped her heart, making it difficult for Liu to breathe.
"What exactly are you trying to prove with this absurd evidence?!"
"It was said that Gu Jiangli and the Gu family exchanged letters with the intention of harming Northern Qi, but the letters were empty!"
"You say Xie Shiyan wants to start a war and go to the battlefield to satisfy his bloodthirsty and cruel nature, but Shiyan's child is about to be born! What father would have the heart to leave his wife and child at home and go alone into the dangerous battlefield?"
"After all this farce, the only thing that can be proven is that the man in front of you named Gu Youwei is from the Southern Lin Kingdom."
"So what?!"
