The door closed again.
The screams of the two people inside were shut out by a door.
Xie Shiyan pulled her and walked outside.
His expression was cold and stern.
Gu Jiangli could see the pain in his eyes.
"You've kept them locked up for so long, and only questioned them now, just to deliver a heavy blow when they're on the verge of a mental breakdown?"
Xie Shiyan hummed in agreement.
“Starting tomorrow, they will begin to distrust and suspect each other, worrying that the other will tell them the truth first and gain the chance to survive.”
"You want to see them kill each other in the face of their only chance of survival."
Xie Shiyan gave a self-deprecating laugh, "Do you think I'm the crazy one?"
"No, if they really were responsible for your mother's death, then they deserve what they're getting now."
Xie Shiyan's eyes flickered, and his terrifying aura gradually subsided.
"What if I said I would change my mind? What I said to them was just to see them kill each other, and I never intended to spare any of them? Wouldn't you think I'm crazy?"
Xie Shiyan asked very seriously, his face tense.
Gu Jiangli, however, smiled with his head down.
"I know."
You know?
“Shi Yan, we’ve known each other for so long. While I wouldn’t say I know you inside and out, I do know what kind of person you are. Those two people deserved to die. You shouldn’t have let either of them go.”
Xie Shiyan's tense expression also relaxed.
“My hands are stained with blood, I treat bloodlines as nothing, I have committed patricide and disobedience, yet you are not afraid of me at all,”
Gu Jiangli looked at him with gentle eyes, "You are my husband, I should be afraid of you, not anyone else."
Xie Shiyan's heart softened.
He led her slowly back into the house.
Xie Yongshan's Liu family surrendered sooner than expected.
Xie Shiyan personally brought meals to the elderly couple every day, and Gu Jiangli also accompanied him to visit the two old people.
For the first two days, Xie Yongshan and Liu were very determined, saying that their relationship was unbreakable and that they would never betray each other to survive, nor would they tell lies to save their lives.
However, as food became scarcer, the trust between Xie Yongshan and Liu gradually diminished.
On the fifth day, when Xie Shiyan brought them food, Liu Shi didn't even care about the food and was eager to tell the truth about what happened back then.
She was so hungry that her eyes were sunken and her face was sallow, but she was still full of energy. She clung to Xie Shiyan's leg, hoping to be one step ahead of Xie Yongshan in gaining a chance to live.
“Shi Yan… listen to me, what happened to your mother was indeed deliberate, but it wasn’t my intention. It was your father who instructed me to do it, he instigated me!”
Xie Yongshan, in his haste, also put down his food and quickly objected:
"What nonsense are you spouting!" Xie Yongshan's eyes were filled with disbelief.
He couldn't believe that the woman who had been so affectionate with him yesterday, saying she would fight Xie Shiyan to the end, had gone back on her word today and even turned on him.
His body was trembling so much that he forgot to eat.
“I’m not lying! You’re the one who told me!” Liu protested vehemently. “You said strychnine can cure diseases, but it can also harm people.”
"The first time you use the medicine, you only need a little bit, which will weaken the body. Then, you can gradually increase the amount of strychnine, and the person will become weaker and weaker. It is not a problem to completely wear a person down."

The two were once a loving couple.
Now everyone is just pointing fingers at the other person's faults.
Xie Shiyan watched with amusement, found a seat for himself and Gu Jiangli, and silently observed the two arguing.
"Xie Yongshan! You didn't like your original wife, but you didn't dare to lay a hand on her, so you planned to instigate me to be the executioner."
"Wasn't it you who delivered that last bowl of nourishing soup? You knew perfectly well that her body was at its weakest point, and that drinking that soup would be like drinking poison, yet you still delivered it."
"Didn't you want her to die?"
"Bullshit!" Xie Yongshan, who rarely swore, couldn't help but blurt out a curse. "Stop spouting nonsense! The tonic soup was for nourishing the body, it had none of the dark intentions you're making. You poisoned her, you'll stop at nothing to become the general's wife, you vicious woman!"
Liu was furious, and her face turned ferocious.
"Me, vicious? Do you think I care about the position of general's wife? What do you, Xie Yongshan, have left besides the title of general?"
"They can't even make their own marriage decisions; they have to listen to the old lady!"
"Do you think I don't know why you dislike that woman? It's because she looks down on you! She's never given you a kind word in a single day!"
"Why would she let me become your concubine so easily? Because she doesn't care about you at all, understand?"
