Gu Jiangli sat up in shock from Xie Shiyan's arms.
Lying down, Xie Shiyan looked puzzled. "What's wrong?"
"How...how did you know?"
She didn't tell anyone!
She already knew about the pregnancy, but at that time the Xie family was busy with the plague, so she didn't say anything.
She had been thinking of telling Xie Shiyan after the plague was over, to give him a surprise!
But now, Xie Shiyan clearly acts as if he already knew about this.
"When did you find out? I never told you I was pregnant."
Xie Shiyan also sat up in bed, looking completely matter-of-fact, "You haven't had your period for two months... is that so hard to notice?"
Gu Jiangli's eyes widened. "You're still interested in these things?"
“You are my wife. If I don’t pay attention, who will? Besides, even Lotus knows, so of course I have to know.”
"Even lotus flowers know?"
“She follows you around every day. She probably knows everything about you, even if you have a mole on your body, let alone something as important as pregnancy.”
Gu Jiangli shut his mouth in silence.
She was still planning to surprise Xie Shiyan, but now it's Xie Shiyan who's giving her a surprise.
Looking back on those days, she realized that Lotus had indeed been much more considerate of her, and every word she spoke was on the general's orders.
It turns out they already knew, and she, the person involved, was kept in the dark.
"Shi Yan, I wanted to tell you in person to make you happy. You already knew I was pregnant, but I never saw you overjoyed."
Xie Shiyan frowned. "It seems that being too smart isn't a good thing. Otherwise, I'll pretend I don't know, and then you can tell me again?"
Gu Jiangli smiled slyly, "Okay, let Shi Yan show me how happy she is."
Xie Shiyan's expression immediately changed, and the smile on his lips faded.
Just as Gu Jiangli was puzzled, he reached out and gently pulled her into his arms.
Heavy breathing hit the back of Gu Jiangli's ear.
It made her heart itch.
"Jiang Li... thank you."
Xie Shiyan's voice was unusual, a low murmur tinged with a sob.
Before Gu Jiangli could speak, Xie Shiyan continued:
"I used to think that having you and Wen'an in this life was enough, and anything more would be a luxury."
"Giving birth is already difficult for a woman, and I never wanted to have another child and cause you to suffer again. I really don't want that..."
Gu Jiangli's heart softened.
Xie Shiyan has never mentioned this matter to her during this time, probably because he has been pondering it repeatedly in his heart.
He had never experienced anything good in the first half of his life, but the comfort and surprises after marriage came one after another, which he found a little overwhelming.
"Shiyan, I'm not actually tired. You, Hehua, and even Grandmother have all taken good care of me, so I'm not tired. You should be happy too."
"It is our duty to take good care of you; the entire Xie family should take good care of you."
Gu Jiangli rested her chin on his shoulder, feeling his warmth.
"Shiyan, there will soon be one more child in this world who loves you. Soon, there will be another baby with a sweet voice calling you Daddy."
"Yes, I know. I will clear all obstacles for this child before he is born."
"You mean..."
"Jiang Li, you need to rest and recuperate now. Go to sleep."
Gu Jiangli had already guessed Xie Shiyan's plan.
She didn't intend to get involved in this matter anyway, as both Xie Shiyan and Hehua were able to handle things perfectly.
Nestled in Xie Shiyan's arms, she slowly drifted off to sleep.
Early the next morning, Doctor Liu arrived with Wen An.
They came to say goodbye.
Today is the day they will enter the palace together.
There was no sorrow of parting in Wen An's eyes; on the contrary, he looked exceptionally happy.
In his view, entering the palace would allow him to see more medical books and treat patients he had never seen before.
His curiosity kept him awake all night, but he's still unusually energetic today.
"Father, Mother, Wen'an is going to the palace with his master. Is there anything special you need to tell him?"
His impatient manner made Gu Jiangli laugh.
"Look how anxious you are! Don't you miss your father and mother at all?"
"I am a little reluctant to leave, but the palace isn't far away. When I miss my mother and father, I'll tell my uncle the emperor, and he'll definitely let me come back."
"You've thought this through all along."
"Of course! I thought about it a lot last night, I even figured out the order in which I would look at the medical books... Oh, right!"
As if suddenly remembering something, Wen An took out a piece of paper from his small medicine box and handed it to Gu Jiangli.
"Mother, this is what I wrote last night. Please accept it and be sure to take the medicine according to the prescription. I will tell Uncle Emperor to come home in two months and change the prescription for you."
Gu Jiangli held the prescription, on which several herbs were written in childish handwriting.
"Eucommia ulmoides, Atractylodes macrocephala, Astragalus membranaceus, Perilla frutescens... What's this?"
Wen An whispered in her and Xie Shiyan's ears:
"Pregnancy-stabilizing medicine, hehe."
After saying that, he winked mischievously at Xie Shiyan and added:
"Father, please take good care of Mother and my younger brother. I will be back soon."
Gu Jiangli and Xie Shiyan exchanged a surprised glance, then turned around to find that Wen An had already dragged Doctor Liu away.
Poor Doctor Liu, so old, was being dragged along while he had to turn back and say to the two of them:
"General, Madam, please rest assured, I will take good care of Wen An—"
